Denver School of Nursing

I am now in my third quarter at DSN. My experience this far has been great. I read reviews that say the instructors don’t care, don’t want you to succeed, and are horrible. I would have to completely disagree with that. I have had some of the best teachers this far at DSN and they DO care and WANT you to succeed. I think people go into nursing school thinking it will be easy or just handed to them, but it’s not! You HAVE to study. That’s not the teachers job. Yeah the tests sometime seem like you are being «tricked», but you have to learn critical thinking skills because that is what nursing is all about.
I have experienced people being so negative when they fail a class, but that’s on them not the school. You have to put the time into it. I feel for the most part the teachers prepare you well and I have learned so much this far.
So all in all, school is what you make it. You get out what you put in. :)

Terrible staff. Don’t care if student pass or fail. Nursing research is at an un-​achievable level, and impossible to pass the masters level test questions. :(save your money and go to another school that cares and wants you to pass.

If you are considering attending this school please RETHINK your decision! I was attracted to DSN for the small class sizes and accelerated BSN-​RN program, so I felt the high price I paid was justifiable. I wish someone would have warned me before. In one year of attending their 2 year program I have had 2 good, competent teachers. Aside from those 2, my teachers have taught outdated information, given test that they were not able to correctly answer the questions to (and could not provide rationale for the answers other than“that is what the test bank rationale said”), and gave us information that did not even coincide with the NCLEX test answers. Not only that, but when we felt we were finally learning how to pass the teachers test they would quit and we would have to go through it all over again. The staff turn over rate is very high. In 5 quarters I have had at least one teacher quit half way through the class each quarter. The students are given a 7 minute grace period before being counted absent from class (after a couple absences they fail you) but the teacher is allowed to show up 30min to an hour late for class with no repercussions. One teacher failed almost 50% of the class and is still teaching because it was determined that the students were to blame for answering test questions based off the information in the text book she assigned and not her notes. They fail students so they can charge them ridiculous amounts of money to retake the course; yet, when they alter their program eliminating 17 credit hours worth of classes you do not receive any money back for the time you are not being taught. All they care about is money and they will look for any reason to squeeze each student for every penny they have. Please be smarter than I was and pick a different school. For the amount of money spent you do not get an education that is worth it.

Very expensive, it is a for-​profit school. Expect to pay more than the quoted 54,000 $ there are extra fees for everything. The Internet is terrible, it usually takes an hour to download power points for class. The turnover rate for staff is very high, most staff doesn’t stay longer than a year. Most of the teachers don’t really care and do not have teaching experience or effective teaching skills. The clinical experiences are close to worthless. I am almost done with school, and I have yet to do any nursing skills besides med passes and basic wound care. Most clinicals are at long term care where you are just learning what not to do. Overall, the education you receive at this school is not worth the hefty price tag.

I am a student at this school. After attending for a while now I have to say that the professors and administrative staff all work hard to ensure the students have the opportunity for success. They really do want us to succeed. School is fast paced and challenging but that is expected. Parking can be difficult and expensive at times but, the school is a block from Coors Field and near lots of great restaurants (and other establishments too). Expect to pay to park in LoDo.

It was not appreciated when this school’s instructor informed my clinical group that we would never get a job in a hospital when I am attending a BSN program thru Regis University. This was done in the presence of our instructor who was visibly upset. I feel the school owes my instructor and myself an apology for this behaviour.
