Gym Uptown

Manager named Brian will lie to your face and not give you a receipt so when you go back and ask for a refund (for something you didn’t agree to pay for) he will pretend you were never there before. Yes, this is the kind of place where people pretend to be nice to take your money without you knowing and put it in their rich pockets.

This gym is great, there’s not many members and it’s not usually crowded whenever I go. I never have to wait for anything. They are set up for deadlifts and Olympic lifts upstairs, with plenty of bumper plates and an area where you can drop weights and scream without bothering too many people.
Austin is one of the bros at the front desk and is super nice! Everyone else who works here is friendly too, and always says hi and bye. A lot of reviews mention the cleanliness, but honestly if one sock laying around for a week grosses you out, maybe you should work out at home. It’s really not that bad.
The music is better than most Rec centers which just play dad butt rock on repeat. Although the current play lists are a little stale… I think they do one per day, because I’ve heard all these songs!
I don’t mind the price for membership. If you’re paying less than $ 20 a month it’s really easy to blow off the gym. When you calculate what one day missed costs you, you will make a bigger effort! CAN’T PUT A PRICE ON FITNESS.
Only con is the squat rack doesn’t face a mirror, and all the bench racks do. Which doesn’t make much sense… Oh and «free parking» is kind of a misnomer. There’s two hour street parking, a couple meters, and residential parking pretty close, but no dedicated parking lot. That being said, if you can’t walk a few blocks on your way to the GYM then…

Be careful, gym will try and trap you in contracts. On multiple occasions I was told by staff at the front desk that my membership will end at the end of 1 year only to find out I was billed for the following month. The owner said that customers always try and break there contracts and if he believed them all he would not have a business. It is a small gym with not many options in the area, but with questionable practices I would not recommend to join.

My boyfriend and I were staying nearby for a week and wanted a gym to visit for strength training, as we are runners. When we called, the guy on the phone (Austin) was courteous and gave us many options to choose from — $ 10 day pass, $ 35 weekly pass, etc.
We opted to go to the site and visit it right after calling. The location has 3 entrances, though we are supposed to use the main one on Grant St and not on 19^th Ave. We entered through the double doors on 19^th Ave anyway and Austin was super friendly and gave us a mini tour after we chose the $ 35 option. The gym was never packed (like the ones in NYC) and the machines are clean and manageable. The cardio machines on the second floor, though not many, were great as well. There’s a giant mirror along with foam rollers (the least dense ones), ropes, and kettlebells. The cardio machines they had are treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes. They also have paper towels and cleaning liquid in a spray bottle to wipe down the machines when you’re done.
There is a locker room on the ground floor, which had separate changing areas and bathrooms. If you get hungry, there are bars and energy drinks for sale in that area. The strength training machines are all Precor, the standard for many gyms. There are also the standard weights and barbells. (I don’t know what the highest weight is.)
All in all, a great gym in a great location. The staff is friendly and no one will get in your way when you’re working out. Although, we did witness two bodybuilding photo shoots while there. It was interesting and they didn’t want to get in our way of working out. Hah!

Joined this gym a few weeks ago. LOVE the location. Its a smaller, more intimate gym, which is also a nice change.
My one gripe? It could use a deeeeep cleaning (especially on the cardio equipment upstairs). For the last 2 weeks that has been a rogue (dirty) sock laying around, and lots of crumbs/​trash/​dust on some of the cardio equipment.
On the plus side, the staff is really nice!

After hearing a lot about this gym, I finally came in to check it out. I usually get a little intimidated by gyms just because I’m not in the greatest shape and I fumble trying to figure out how to use equipment and ultimately end up not getting a great workout. Today, I went in and ended up getting a membership on the spot because it’s so awesome. I was greeted by friendly staff and was so impressed by their willingness to walk me through the equipment and gym without making me feel stupid. One of the trainers even offered to show me a few exercises I should do to help strengthen my lower back. I’ll never go anywhere else! If you go in, make sure to try one of their new smoothies. SO good after a sweat session. I had the chocolate flavor and it was amazing. They also hooked me up with some ready to drink protein for my morning recovery after cardio. So excited to have found this place!

If you live in the North Cap Hill/​Five Points area, this is really your only viable option. Kudos to the owner (s) for cornering the market in this location. Still, there’s opportunity for another great gym to come and sweep Gym Uptown off its feet.
The staff ranged from super friendly to somewhat cocky and aloof.
Gym Uptown is clearly aimed at weightlifting (I did not participate in any classes). The quality of the weightlifting machines/​equipment is high and the variety is solid.
One major issue is cleanliness. I’d venture to say some of the machines have never been wiped down, since Gym Uptown opened in 2014. This is a two-​fold problem: clearly its not (and should be) part of staff duties, but there’s not a surplus of towels and cleaning stations, and none of the patrons seem interested in pitching in.
The biggest drawback, for me, is the size. Gym Uptown is really tiny — and if you don’t realize it, wait until you go into the dressing room and duck under exposed ventilation and have to walk sideways through the entryway into the bathroom. This means that, if there’s a trainer training someone on the floor, at least half your workout space is taken, no matter what. It also means that if there’s a group of Jersey Shore wannabes taking pictures and videos of eachother lifting, their egos alone will take up half the gym.
I’m a solid weightlifter, but it’s not my life, and I sometimes feel out of place here. I definitely would advise someone humbly just beginning or getting back to working out to stay away.
I didn’t appreciate the constant advertising on the website of GAY FRIENDLY. As a gay man, I decide if you’re gay friendly — you don’t decide you are, just because it’s a prime piece of the market.
A 3 day pass could be longer (atleast a week, maybe two).
Hours could be better, particularly for the weekend (I haven’t even emerged from my bed, after a long weekend, to make it there for 5pm).
Long story short: I’ve been giving the on site gym at my apartment another chance.

I was seeking a gym to visit for a month stay in Denver. Stopped in and we were instantly impressed. Clean, new, abundant equipment. Brett was extremely friendly and welcoming. This facility has a very laid back environment, solid location and great staff. Rates are reasonable as well. Looking forward to my workouts and watching their business grow.

Don’t waste my time! I showed up for a 30 minute class which was supposed to start at 5. After waiting until almost 5:15, I inquired about the status at the front desk. I was told it was probably getting ready to start and was given a semi apology. At this point, I was annoyed and left, regardless if the class was actually going to start. This disorganization is unacceptable, especially for a new gym.
I gave them 2 stars because the owner was super nice and they give you a three day trial. I envision this gym could be good for some and they offer a variety of classes (although I didn’t get to experience any), but first impressions last and I will not become a member.

Great space for cardio! Most diff the best cardio room I’ve ever seen!!! They do have classes, but the space just isn’t there to be really fun. I did a few but have decided to go to another gym that offers the same kind of classes but with more room. This gym is my week day cardio/​lifting gym.
