Hammond’s Candies Factory

Hello Sugar! Love the tours, love the staff, love the garage sales, love the 5K races, love the Christmas festival and we’ll I just love everything about Hammond’s!!!

I’d go to buy candy, but not for the tour.
The tour is great if you have kids, but my girlfriend and I went and the tour guide was not very knowledgeable. I asked a few questions and every time got the answer of «Well I don’t really know». So the tour wasn’t a great experience.
The candy on the other hand is pretty great. They have all of their regular candies (much cheaper than buying them in Crate and Barrel) but also have some of their «factory seconds» at great prices. For example you can buy 10 lollipops (that honestly you’ll probably put in a cabinet and forget about unless you have kids) for $ 3, or a bag of Mitchel Sweet mush for $ 1.
I got some of the filled candy canes as stocking stuffers, they’re pretty fantastic. A lot of the candy isn’t cheap because it is all actually handmade, but it is much cheaper than buying it at the stores they distribute at.

We did a stop in for small business Saturday and we all bought too much!
Love that they do a tour and more so that everyone can find something they like!
Some crazy new candy bars (pigs n taters is bacon and potato chip pieces) and plenty of good classics.
Love the ribbon candy, old fashioned hard candies candy canes and more. So many choices!

The Hammonds website specifically states «No reservation needed for small parties». I used this information for 2 adults and 1 child. When I arrived at 2:45 on a Tuesday I was told the tours for the day were full and there were no more… Cause 50 people were already waiting. I’m sorry, but I had to take a crying, upset child back an hour into town without touring the candy factory.
They should probably specify that they regularly get full. And be a little bit more polite about it when they are full. What an upset.

Free! High end candy maker offering free tours & free candy… sweet! The warehouse is small & easy for any age –I had a 3 & 4 yr old with me and there was a senior home taking the same tour.
Friendly & old school staff. We happened to come on a really active candy making day – really interesting to see the handmade candy making process. Kids were engaged the entire 30 minutes. What’s cooler than watching candy canes being made?!
Free candy at the end of the tour. Reason enough to go! The tour ends inside the fancy candy ‘shoppe.’ I spent $ 80 on gifts/​treats/​indulgences – easy to go wild. Great if you need to pick out cool specialty gifts. Plan on spending some $$, it’s hard to resist!

The tour is okay. You watch a 10 minute movie and then walk down a lane which has windows to look into the actual factory. The tour was really short but they do give you a free candy at the end of the tour. The candy store that they have has a very large selection of candy and they are all really well priced! The candy store is better than the tour but if you haven’t been on the tour it’s free so there is nothing to lose.

Although the factory is smaller than I expected, the tour is still worth seeing. We got to sample some candy right off the line (marshmallows for Starbucks) before exciting through the gift shop ;)

We arrived for the 1.30pm tour on a Saturday and by the time we got past the candy making widows, to the chocolate, fairy floss & popcorn rooms, everyone was cleaning up to go home. So perhaps try going in the morning.
We started with a short video which was good, lots of info, then moved to the viewing area. The TV screens were good, especially when tall ignorant people hog the windows. The guide could see that some of us were having trouble seeing so she changed the screen to other areas in that room and explained them to us.
We all got a free candy cane as our taster and finished in the gift shop.
Although the tour is free, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’ll spend money, some of the stuff was so reasonably priced it was hard to resist. The sugar free individual chocolates are delicious!

I loved visiting Hammond’s Candy Factory and going on the tour. They start things off by showing a short video about the history of the company. After that, you enter the factory and walk down a long hallway lined with big windows. You get a great view of everything going on inside, and they even have cameras throughout the factory, and big screens so that people on the tour can get an even closer look at the action. The tour guide explained what they were making, but also mentioned that they constantly work on different types of candy, so if you come back for the tour another day you can see something completely different. At the end of the tour, they passed out huge candy cane samples (I got a birthday cake flavor which was delicious) and then the tour ends in their retail shop. It was so much fun browsing the huge variety of candy there, and of course making a few necessary purchases! I ended up taking home a bag of the cinnamon toast popcorn, a caramel apple lollipop and a pomegranate candy stick. This was an awesome free (aside from my shopping at the end) activity in Denver and I can’t wait to go back!

The candy is definitely a treat if you are into the whole old-​fashioned candy, but by far THE FUDGE is what you should nose dive into.
You can sample the flavors before you buy which doesn’t help because every single flavor makes you weak in the knees.
Highly recommend!

For being free, this place was a score for my two kids. We ended up getting an hour out of the whole thing. My 3 year old really enjoyed watching how candy is made and got a free birthday cake flavored candy cane at the end. The candy shop at the end has lots of yummy treats. Our tour guide was very friendly towards us and especially to our kids. We are from AZ visiting, so this was enjoyable for a tourist point of view. 5 stars for being WAY more exciting than I had expected and for the staff putting forth a good effort to keep us entertained FOR FREE I will add again.

Great homemade candies! Tour is short but that is because the kitchen isn’t that big. Definitely worth the trip if you are in Denver for the day.

Love this because it’s old-​fashioned hand made candy. They use unique machines which you can see on a free factory tour. Then you are funneled into a magnificent candy store– chocolate included. It would be hard not to sample some wonderful morsels from this place! The caramel marshmallow Mitchell is awesome.

Hammond’s Candies Factory is an interesting look at the practice of old world candy making in an ever changing world. It’s fun to watch as the candy operators make the beautiful and tasty candies completely by hand.
The tour is FREE and you get a free candy on your way out (I got a candy cane)! The tour guide was very informative and answered many questions about the candy making process. Even though it was a Saturday, and they didn’t have some of the candy being made (specifically the chocolates), she pointed out different items and tools that would be used to make that candy. There were workers there in the process of making candy canes. In the span of the tour we watched as one worker hand rolled and kneaded large pieces of candy, then watched as he shape it into the pattern we so easily recognize as candy canes.
What else I really enjoyed about the tour, and Hammond’s, is that they have been making the candy the same way since it opened. Some of the tools they use are over 100 years old. There is something wonderful when a company preserves the way things were done since the beginning. The love and care put into the candy is definitely reflected in their work.

Staff is friendly and tries to be funny.
Not much of a tour but I guess that is what you get for free.
You walk down a hallway with windows peering in on employees working.
The more interesting part was the historical timeline of the company that is no longer a family owned company.
You receive a free, broken candy cane in a different flavor (blood orange, berry blue) at the end of the tour and then have the option of purchasing items in the gift shop.

Hey! It’s a free tour!
As others have mentioned, it’s about 30 minutes long and it’s not teeming with fireworks and unicorns, but it’s a factory! What else do you really expect?
We thought 30 minutes was maybe a few minutes too long, but you get to see how it all happens. It’s actually pretty interesting! I think this would be the perfect place to bring kids to show them where/​how things are made, particularly for a project.
You get free (broken) samples at the end — awesome!

If I had one word to describe this tour, I’d say it was lame. Never knew it existed, as it sits on the outskirts of Denver in a warehouse area. No reason to ever return again.
My out of towner friend found this tour and wanted to check it out, so out to warehouse land we went. Thank goodness the tour was only a half hour. I was bored to tears. The tour is hardly a tour, and more of standing in the same room for 30 min. I guess I’m also not that into candy. I was hardly impressed by the «fun facts» she told us. I guess it’s because I cook a lot but corn syrup and sugar and water are not impressive ingredients, and no I’m not that amazed by the recipe.
We stood in the hot room watching a black and white screen as the guide flipped through her «channels» and talked.
Complete miss. Tourist trap, beware. And if you think you’re going to get really awesome candy from the gift shop, think again. Not that great either. Can someone tell me why they also sell Lindt truffles when they have nothing to do with their factory? Go see the many other things Denver has to offer.

Decent factory tour offered at Hammond’s. You watch a 5 minute video and then walk through the candy making/​processing line to view what’s happening inside through a series of big windows. We went at 2pm on a Saturday and there wasn’t much going on — just a few folks making candy canes (which Hammond’s apparently does all year long). The tour itself probably took 10 – 15 minutes. We got a free sample at the end of the marshmallow candy which, if I’m being honest, was gross.
The tour dumps out at the gift shop where I found everything to be seriously overpriced.
Overall, the tour was alright — free so I can’t complain but full of loud kids, a blasé tour guide, and not a lot of actual information about the candy making process or the company.
