My husband and I hired Highlands Landscaping to replace part of our fence and also to do some landscaping work. They are so busy, so it took about 5 weeks to get them to come out and do the estimate, but it was worth the wait. We are very happy with the work they did. Marco was really great at giving me ideas for what we should do and it was very refreshing to work with a business owner who is knowledgeable and very honest. We had two other quotes for our fence and neither of them told us that certain parts of our fence did not need to be replaced yet, but Marco was upfront and only provided an estimate for the fence that actually needed replacing. The fence looks so amazing! I especially love the gates, as the latches and hardware look so classy and were something I had never seen before, but are really functional. We also had them plant two Aspen clumps and put down several tons of rock on our side yard. They graded everything and it looks so much better then it did before. I highly recommend hiring Marco and his guys for any fence or landscaping work that you may need. They are very responsive when you have a question, which seems to be rare with a lot of contractors nowadays.

Both Marko and Joshua have been great to work with. I have had a couple projects done around my house including a new irrigation system and some grading work. I agree with other reviewers that Highlands Landscaping is probably not the cheapest, but the peace of mind that comes with their professionalism, communication and quality of work is worth it. I will be calling these guys again in the near future for additional work.

Highlands Landscaping wasn’t the cheapest bid we got, but we went with them because of their professional and detailed bid. We were not disappointed. Though our project wound up being harder than either of us anticipated, they did a good job adjusting to the difficult clay and water in the yard. Their communication was superb at every step of the project. We would definitely use them again.

Marko and his team are excellent. Their communication is incredible. I got a call each morning and each evening with an update on our irrigation, patio and fire pit project. I will highly recommend Marko and his team.

His team created and installed a retaining wall, a fence, a sprinkler system, and the front yard trees and plants. From day one they were helpful in making suggestions that delivered on what we wanted at the best price. We are very happy with the results. Marko will be the only person we call for our next project.

Nothing but good things to say about my experience with Highlands Lanscaping. They worked fast and very efficiently. They converted my asphalt side yard to a sweet patio with flagstone, new fence, and raised planter. So happy with the work they did, and there is a warranty so if anything happens I know they will come fix it quickly. Thanks Marko and team.

Marko is great and very professional. We were very pleased with the work they have done and the landscaping they had to fix which included pavers in the front walkway and a French drain to help out our awful grading issues.

Highlands Landscaping did a great job on a project for our bungalow near Highland’s Square. We had a landscaping plan done from a landscape architect and we got bids from two companies. From the start Marko was very easy to work with, prompt, and transparent in his pricing and approach. He kept things simple and was flexible for the inevitable changes that happen on any project. He had a good sized crew that worked cohesively and efficiently, and our project manager on the project was great too — very good communication. He met the timeline and cost estimates, revised for some minor changes I requested, and even with the additions both the cost and the actual duration were better than the competing bid. One thing I would recommend to any customers working on a project is that they take an active role, particularly in finding and sourcing plants. The only area we had major issues on the project was with the plant quality and availability, which wasn’t part of their role or responsibility. We also did some legwork in picking out our own rocks, which I’m glad we did. Another piece of advice is to plan ahead and book them early (we started talking to them in December for a May project), they do good work, and accordingly they are booked out a ways ahead. I found Highlands Landscaping on Unilocal and I’m glad I did, I would highly recommend them to others looking for landscaping help.

Highlands Landscaping did a fantastic job for us recently, when we re-​landscaped part of our yard. I had a plan for what I wanted and they helped me implement it to the very last detail. Marco came over during the planning phase and listened to all of our concerns and wishes. After that we emailed a few times about details, and then when the day finally arrived, everything went like clockwork. He brought enough workers to finish the job (it was not a big one) in one day as was promised. All the tasks were efficiently completed by his crew, with great supervision and direction. Every time I asked for help in placing a rock or changing something, they responded immediately, no questions asked. Five stars all the way. My yard was a disaster… I mean just awful. Here’s the before description of our yard: we had dirt and concrete… oh and red ants and goat heads. We didn’t know what we wanted to do with the yard, but we had a tree cut down, so thought we’d try lazy xeroscaping with mulch (dumb idea), so then we had mulch, still had goat heads along with many other weeds. To top it off my poor husband halfway finished our flagstone patio and then received the job of his dreams and no longer had time to finish it and it sat like that for a whole year. I hated my back yard so much that I almost refused to go in it and it caused many of arguments between my husband and I. I gave in and called in he professionals. I chose Highlands Landscaping based on the Unilocal reviews. Joshua was our contract manager and I have nothing but absolutely wonderful things to say about him. He’s a yard magician and a mind reader. He suggested we split the project into two parts (fall and then spring), which made it more affordable. They used material that we had already purchased (the year before when we thought we could do it ourselves). It looks better than I could have ever imagined. He was just full of great advice. What a professional. I can now go in my back yard and enjoy it… really enjoy it. Now, if they did home remodeling work too, I’d be all set. We contacted Highlands Landscaping to rehaul our backyard by adding a fence, removing brush and xeriscaping it. Makro was prompt and explained our options very well. We are happy with the price and results, and we felt informed every step of the way. Marko and his team are highly recommended.

I had a wonderful experience with Marko and Highlands Landscaping. The job, which consisted of grading, sod, mulch, rock, and installing sprinklers, was done in a timely and efficient manner. The team arrived every morning at 8am and stayed till the job was completed. Nikko and the crew were punctual and professional. They even came out on a Saturday to make sure things were working properly.
Highlands Landscapers also had very reasonable rates and worked with me to make sure I stayed within my budget. In addition, they were honest, trustworthy, and patient since I kept changing my design.
Overall, highly impressed and would recommend them.

I had a wonderful experience working with Highlands Landscaping. I had them install a patio, replace a fence and put in some plantings. They did an excellent job of working around a planned deck and were able to make last-​minute changes when we had to diverge from the original design. At the end of each work day, the foreman gives you an update of what was completed and what is planned for the next day.
They will definitely work with you to get your project within your budget. In fact, they found a cheaper vendor than the one I had found for the patio stone. They also get wholesale pricing on their plants which saved me a lot money (and hassle) when compared to doing it myself. I will definitely be contacting them again when I’m ready to redo the front yard.

I could not speak more highly of Highlands Landscape and Fencing. Josh and his team gave us a fair price, great service and timely completion of the requested services. Although there was a delay in getting the estimate, treat that as a sure indicator of quality and wait if you can.
The whole crew were punctual and friendly. They also acted as ad hoc mediators when a dispute with our neighbors unfortunately involved them. We are really happy with their work and would recommend Highland Landscape and Fencing to anyone in need of their services.

I am very happy with the work Marko and his team provided. I first asked for an estimate last October, and it was more than I had hoped — but as I checked out other companies, right in line. So I got it together this spring and received a revised bid and time for work to be completed.
I have a 100′ plus fence line on south side and I had them replace the fence. There was an issue with the fence sitting on top of 3 sprinkler heads. I let Marko know and they worked with me and moved the 3 sprinkler heads at no cost. I also have a large tree sitting in the midle of the run — they did a great job working around the tree and building the fence. And one of the best parts, my neighbors yard has added dirt and their grade is about 6′ higher then grade of my yard — they added 2×4’s at bottom to prevent neighbor’s dirt pushing on my fence. Overall very pleased and need to see if they do porch railings as that is next on my list.

Highlands Landscaping might do great work, but I’ll never know.
When speaking with them on June 2^nd they informed my the earliest they could do an estimate/​consultation is late July with work to be performed late August to early September. It is a good sign for them that they are very busy, but waiting over 50 days for just an estimate?
When I informed them that I would rather not wait that long and I would look elsewhere for services, they asked me «If I was sure I wanted to do that». Yes, very sure I want to do that.

This is a class A company. After writing a disappointing review, the owner contacted me and made the extra effort to come out not once, but twice to give me an estimate on a landscaping plan and a fence. I say he came out twice because the first time, I forgot about our appt and scheduled something in it’s place but Marko was understanding and came back out to talk to me at length about my needs for the yard.
I will write another review once they have done some work for me but right now, this company gets 5 stars for customer service.

Our backyard had been a problem since we bought our house. We had grading and drainage issues, as well as cosmetic problems.
We were impressed by the positive Unilocal reviews for Highlands Landscaping and decided to give them a call. Marco arrived on time for the initial quote, and was very professional. Even though we had a general plan for the backyard, Marco offered some great suggestions. We received our quote in a few days. The quote was detailed and the price was lower than the competitors we contacted. Marco was responsive and easy to communicate with when finalizing the contract.
When his work crew was delayed with another job, Marco informed us of the change. His crew showed up promptly at the new time. All employees were professional, and even personable. They worked efficiently and showed great teamwork and attention to detail. They did not hesitate to ask us for clarification on the design when necessary. They did a terrific job grading the yard, running the downspout underground to the back of the yard, and installing a beautiful new sod section. It was incredible how hard the crew worked — they finished in a few hours what would have taken us weeks to complete!
Marco stopped by frequently to make sure the job was progressing and that the crew had all the required materials. We greatly appreciated this personal attention to our landscaping project.
Our job was completed on time and we can finally use our backyard! We highly recommend Highlands Landscaping. Marco and his employees provided excellent customer service throughout. It was one of the best contractor experiences we have ever had.

Update, 7÷23÷2013:
A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by a Highlands co-​owner who saw my Unilocal post and called to try to make things right. She explained that their front office person was not performing the duties that she was hired to do. She let emails go unanswered, didn’t take notes, didn’t make call backs. The co-​owner asked if i was still in need of landscaping service (I wasn’t). She apologized, I told her I appreciated it and then we hung up.
Fast forward to today when Marco called to say the exact same thing that his cohort called to say. He explained that they are a small business and that their Unilocal reviews are a big part of how they get and keep business. While I can understand that, my experience was my experience and it was a big pain in the a** to deal with this company, no matter what the issue was.
But I’ve raised my star rating (though I can’t in good conscience raise this to a 3-​star «A-​OK» rating because it wasn’t a-​ok; it was a hassle) and let me state for the record that I very much appreciated being called and having it all explained to me. I hope they’ve got their communications plan all straightened out.

Hard to believe everyone gives this company 5 stars. After coming out to see my place on a Thursday, Jeff said I’d have the estimate early the following week. 10 days later, I got it. After going back and forth, I emailed him on a Tuesday about coming back out. He said he’d see if he could make it Thursday. Now it’s 9 days later and still no correspondence. I even emailed the company itself. No response. I called and left a message. No response. My neighbor called about a sprinkler system, No response.
I can understand it’s a busy time of year but if you can’t take the job, just say so and don’t waste my time.

I got a pretty nice check back from Uncle Sam this year, and was thinking of fun ways in which I could spend it… then I looked out my window and noticed that my very old fence (check out the before and after photo I posted) was starting to fall inward. Sigh. Time for a new fence.
Having zero experience with landscaping or fence folks, I turned to Unilocal.I called a few of the highly rated people, but Marko was my man. He’s friendly, professional, and his prices are extremely reasonable. He even got stuck with a bunch of snow the week my fence was supposed to go in, but worked around the storms beautifully.
His crew is also top notch! Everyone seemed to be careful around the yard, and they went out of their way to be sure everything was cleaned up after the job. Honestly, those parts of the garden actually looked BETTER after they left.
So, how’s the fence itself? Great! Again, check out the before and after. Marko used great cedar, and got everything installed beautifully. I also followed up with an email asking if I should do anything special to treat it, and Marko promptly got back with me with plenty of details of what I might and might not do.
I’d call Highlands Landscaping again in a heartbeat — great guys, great job. Thanks, Marko!
