Jaya Asian Grill

Got take out here, was excited to try an Indonesian dish since I’ve been to Bali and loved the food. This didn’t really resemble an authentic dish and was extremely bland. I didn’t expect it to be as good as I had in Indonesia but it didn’t have any sauce or flavor to speak of. I also thought they were overpriced for what you got.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick bite last night, and Yolanda’s next door was unfortunately closed.
Service was great/​fast, food seemed tasty. We ordered coconut shrimp, chicken satay and chicken drunken noodles. Again, all seemed tasty. That was at 8:30pm last night.
At 3:00am I woke up with horrible stomach pain, shortly followed by numerous runs to the bathroom to vomit. My boyfriend woke a bit later… same situation. It’s after 2:00 and we still can’t function or get out of bed.
So while our girl was sweet and service was fast… I would NEVER go back there!
Ugh…so sick!

My favorite Malay Singaporean Restaurant in Denver Try Nasi hainan, Nasi goreng Ikan asin and roti chanay. Rendang is also the best. Nasi goreng Ikan asin is for those familiar with the strong flavor.

I came by for a quick lunch. I ordered the Singapore noodles, and they were fantastic. The noodles were super well-​flavored and not too oily. I was impressed to see the 7 – 9 large shrimp that came in my noodles after expecting baby shrimp instead. The portion size provided was quite filling. Keep in mind that they have both Sriracha and hot oil by request. Their hot oil was pretty flavorful but not too spicy. I also had very good, attentive service. My server seemed fairly knowledgeable about the menus and was quick to respond to my needs. I look forward to coming back to try more stuff in the future.

I ordered the War Wanton Soup and crispy egg rolls for delivery on a snowy day when I had a cold and I am fairly certain it cured all that ailed me. Plus, food arrived in ~30 minutes and piping hot. I was overwhelmed with wonderful warm feelings about the food and lots of mmmms were uttered. I will definitely be ordering from here frequently.

If you were in Tokyo and inexplicably heard of a fantastic Mexican place serving the best carnitas outside of Mexico, you should probably not go and order the disappointing poutine. The only reason they included the poutine is because their clientele demands food from all of North America when they visit, and if they didn’t include hamburgers, hot dogs, poutine, and bagels they would go out of business, even though the restaurant specializes in Mexican food. It has become the status quo that if a restaurant opens in any of the three specialties they must serve all three. So people go in, avoid the strangely named carnitas and opt for the comforting poutine. The poutine is not as good as the last place they went, therefore the Mexican Restaurant gets 1 star on Unilocal because there is better poutine elsewhere.
This, as far as I know, does not happen often in Tokyo, but it does happen all the time in American Asian restaurants of any variety. Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and as seen here, Malaysian, Singaporean, and Indonesian all get grouped together and have absurdly similar menus. I do not wish to speak for Jaya, but this is likely not by their own volition. They have to feature crab rangoon, sesame chicken, beef and broccoli etc etc or they risk running out of business. Then people come here, eat things that are not the restaurant’s specialty, and are disappointing. From one slanderous reviewer who gave one star and seemingly told her husband/​boyfriend/​significant other, «Quick I’m about to throw up! Come film me so we can put it on Unilocal!» which makes the review ever so believable, to others giving one star saying they love Asian food and order dishes that were invented in America. Seriously, it’s a huge trend. Look at people giving it 1 star and what they ordered versus the ones giving 5 stars.
My point is, when you go to a restaurant order what they specialize in. While it is a bit wild that they specialize in Malaysian and Singaporean and Indonesian, these are all still great dishes. The Americanized Chinese dishes? Not so great. You know why? Because these are not so great anywhere and get by on nostalgia (This is coming from someone who still adores sesame chicken). Get the Hainanese Chicken Rice or the Beef Rendang if you’re a beginner to these cuisines. They’re safe and familiar flavors with excellent execution. The other parts of the menu will be there when you’re ready to be more adventurous.

I like the way they have varieties on their menu, start from indonesian food to malaysian/​singapore food. It still doesnt taste authentic in my opinion, but it is as close as they could get, and its totally fine for me.
I love that hot wings appetizer and the nasi lemak, also nasi goreng ikan asin.

Let me start this review by saying that I’ve been trying to decide if I should write it or not for 3 days, and after a lot of thinking, I have decided to go ahead and post this…
Jaya…oh, sweet Jaya… I have loved you so for close to 10 years now. The food you make is often some of the most delicious Asian delivery in the South part of Denver. I will even go ahead and say, that even after my LESS THAN 1 STAR experience, the food, for the most part, was tasty.
So, why the 1 star review? Because I found an OPEN STAPLE in my lo mein. It stabbed me in my gum. I almost swallowed it. Upon calling the restaurant and asking to speak to a manager or the owner (which I had to do multiple times) he acted like I was the problem. I asked for a refund, he offered me a credit. Why… WHY ON EARTH would I ever eat at a restaurant again after finding a staple in my food. He angrily offered a refund for the one item. I was so upset with his attitude, that I refused this and asked for a full refund on my order to which his response was «For just one staple!!!» I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Yes, for JUST ONE STAPLE that stabbed me in the mouth and I almost swallowed, yes, I would like a full refund. I had to argue with him about this. He finally agreed to send the driver back out with my money. It took over an hour, but yes, I did get my money back.
So Jaya, you get a 1 star review, that I wish could be a 0 star review because of the staple in my food that almost killed me and for your manager being a big ol’ a$$hole.

If there was 4 and a half stars, I’d give it confidently. Chicken, Pineapple, and Potato Curry. Hot & Sour soup, Crab Rangoon and General Tso’s Chicken. So basically one specialty dish and some general Chinese food for the girlfriend, as she is a little less adventurous.
All of it was excellent and the curry was top notch. It seemed like they used dark meat/​thigh for the dish and thought that was awesome. A little gristle on a piece or two, but I actually enjoy that sort of touch. The combination of ingredients was well balanced and even though I am no expert in Singaporean food, I’m definitely a fan.
My only surprise was that the hot & sour was definitely on the spicy side. Great flavor though, just be warned. Delivery was prompt, right around 30 – 40 minutes and everything was in order and hot. Thumbs up for this place, definitely will be ordering again.

After 3 different attempts to eat there for convenience of location to my work, I finally have the ability to give an honest review… and it is NOT GOOD :-/\
I really wish this place was better, I LOVE asian cuisine, but disappointment after disappointment will cause me to drive «instead of walk» somewhere else when I have the craving…
First two experiences I ordered the basil chicken and crab wonton on visit #1, both very «Meh», bland and boring, the staff was clueless on how to take a simple one person order… Then #2 I ordered the Pineapple Curry, room temperature and NO FLAVOR! Even the Egg Rolls were clearly FROZEN egg rolls you might buy at a cheap grocery store…
Visit #3, I walked in about 2:50pm, sat down (There were never other customers there which was clue #1), so I sat quickly. But this time I was on an important phone call as I browsed the menu. I finally ordered at 3:02pm (Lunch menu ends at 3:00), and they would not serve me the lunch menu, which was the same as dinner only less expensive… I finally said screw it, walked out and found a GREAT thai place just up Colorado Blvd…
Will NOT BE BACK EVER!!! Terrible food AND Service = Epic Fail!!!

I ate at this facility and I violently threw up for six hours after consuming their food. I went to the establishment to talk to the manager and they said they would refund my money for making me sick and then called me back to tell me that they would not help me out. These are horrible people who do not care about their customers. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY CHANCES EATING HERE! I talked the the manager before order and he said they would be able to make almost anything gluten free and certainly the items I ordered. DO NOT TRUST THIS ESTABLISHMENT.

By far the best Asian food experience we have had in recent years. We stumbled upon this place purely by accident, but we are so glad we did! portions are large, served quickly and FRESH. Older man was sitting in the corner cracking peas when we walked in, that is how fresh it was! We came at an odd hour so there were only a couple of other people in the restaurant at the time, but the food and service were both wonderful. The Thai iced coffee was on point!

I came by here for lunch a while back. Okay, it may have been lunch time, but I did not order any of the lunch specials. Instead I went for some Thai favorites of mine. The Tom Kha (Thai Chicken Coconut Soup) was excellent. It had tons of flavor and meat and veggies, and although there were a few superfluous items, I enjoyed it immensely.
The Red Curry (Thailand’s hot red curry with red chilies and coconut milk. Flavored with sweet basil leaves) was similarly packed full of flavor. I ordered it fairly spicy and was not disappointed. The overall quality of what I had here was very good. I will be back for lunch in the near future.

I fondly remember my fave Singaporean restaurant in Hoboken. Cravings for roti canai and Hainanese chicken struck, feverishly searched for a sub in Colorado. Jaya was the only spot to turn up in my search.
Ordered the roti canai and satay tofu to start, Hainanese chicken for me and Indonesian chicken (ayam goreng kalasan) for him. Roti canai was alright, as a previous writer stated, rotis tasted and looked store bought, also too buttery. The satay tofu was unmemorable. I think I was thrown off by the presentation and cuke to tofu ratio. I’m accustomed to huge slices/​triangles/​pieces of fried tofu stuffed with cucumbers and sprouts, peanut sauce on the side. This starter had maybe 4 measly pieces of tofu resting on a bed of cucumbers, peanut sauce already poured. Hainanese chicken was forgettable. The chicken should be room temperature, cleanly butchered, fragrant rice made with the poached chicken stock. Chicken came out hot and in messy chunks, rice flavorless. My partner’s Indonesian chicken was pretty dope though, crispy skin, spicy biting chili dip, lip smacking ginger rice.
With the limited Singaporean options, I’m sure I’ll be back to just get my fix. However, in comparison to my previous experiences with the cuisine, this spot is only par for the course.

After looking over all the great reviews I figured I’d give it a try. I was delighted by the Curry Ayam lunch special. Great portion size for lunch.
The chicked and pineapple curry was flavorful and spicy. I love spicy food and this curry was just right.
Looking forward to my next visit.

Appetizers were amazing, main dishes failed to impress.
— Roti — very light and crispy buttery pancake with a subtle curry dipping sauce. My favorite.
— Dumplings — pan fried perfectly with a nice crunch and chewy inside, filings had good flavor, and dipping sauce was nice and strong.
— Vietnamese egg rolls — Really good, really crispy, and very flavorful fish sauce.
— Kalasan — meat was extremely dry and the dipping paste was spicy as shit.
— Beef rendang — beef was tender but the sauce was not good. Tasted like curry gone bad.
— Spicy beef — this dish had good flavors, lots of veggies.
— Jaya prawns — crispy in a honey glaze, for the sweeter palette.
— Tom yum soup — friend had no complaints.
Service is fine for an Asian restaurant. Just don’t expect too much.

As an Asian person, while I enjoy healthy Asian food, I’m picky about Asian restaurants I go to as I don’t like to spend money on something that I can easily make myself– or make even better. So naturally the Asian joints I frequent have to be authentic and GOOD.
Jaya is one of my favorite Asian restaurants around town. I was introduced to it by a couple of friends who are from Southeast Asia who swore the food was close to home.
I love that they have the Malaysian, Indonesian, Singaporean dishes that you can’t really find here often. I love their Malaysian style fried chicken– crispy, juicy and not greasy at all. The spicy sauce that comes with has a nice kick to it. I also like their rendang curry that has a rich beef flavor to the sauce with lots of flavors.
Recently I’ve also tried their calamari dish as appetizer. Fried calamari with diced bell pepper and simple salt and pepper to taste. Sounds simple and somewhat bland but to my surprise the flavor was absolutely great.
I hardly ever order their Chinese dish as I always lean towards the exotic southeast Asian flavors, but other patrons always seem to enjoy their Chinese food which look fresh and smells nice across the room. I wish I lived close enough so I can order in all the time. Maybe it’s a good thing that I can’t. ;)

Everyone knows that Jaya Asian Grill has amazing food! That is indisputable! But Jaya also has something else that’s pretty amazing — the people who work there. Kiki was my waitress last night and she did a superb job! She was kind, courteous, helpful, and all around wonderful!

I was craving some Hainanese Chicken and was suggested this place for my Malaysian/​Singaporean cravings and I was honestly disappointed. This made me want to go home and tackle the long process of making Hainanese chicken. I have to say, but it’s nothing spectacular and perhaps my expectations were a bit high. The chicken seemed dry to me and both their sauces that accompanied the dish didn’t taste right to me either. The chicken had a buttery taste to me that was a lot stronger than any Hainanese chicken place I have been to. I might have been slightly spoiled from my recent trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong at the beginning of the year and my trip to California late last year but ultimately it did not satisfy my craving. It’s good if you have no expectations and it’s frankly one of my only options in Colorado right now that I am aware of, other than attempting to make it myself.
The Roti Canal was also a disappointment. I used to fight my cousins and siblings over this dish when I was a child at another Malaysian/​Singaporean place growing up (don’t know what happened to that place or even what it was called) but it’s good stuff! Here though, their curry was a bit too bitter for me and the roti was definitely store bought. The roti itself was still decent though. The dipping curry just killed it for me. I ended up dipping my roti in my laksa.
Their laksa saved them. That DID satisfy my craving. It had a good spice level and was a solid dish. I’d definitely go back again to get that. Perhaps I’ll try the Beef Ranang next time or the Nasi Lemak.
