I ordered a salted carmel with white cake and it was fantastic. The cake was light, moist, and full of flavor. These cupcakes are worth the price.

I was really disappointed with my cupcake from mermaids :-(I had the red velvet which was recommended to my by the sales person. She said it was cream cheese frosting my favorite! When I got back to my hotel it did not taste like red velvet although it was red and it was definitely not cream cheese frosting so bummed! Took one bite and threw it away! Bummer

Stopped in today for our wedding tasting and were blown away by the delicious options! Claire was really helpful and not pushy while we tried to make decisions. I cannot wait to see how our goodies come out for the big day! There is no doubt in my mind that everything will be amazing.

Amazing cakes! Beyond amazing cakes, I’d love to give 5 stars but the customer service is less than great sadly :(I’ve been ordering my cakes from the website description for 5 years for all occasions. I received a cake that was not decorated as describes for my father in laws 65^th birthday, and I was told the website was wrong, I would not be getting all the fancy delicious toppings I thought I was paying for. Sorry can’t help, have a nice day. Ok wow. I paid for delivery knowing the quality would be great, only to be disappointed in service. When ordering make sure you double check the description with staff before paying

Full disclosure, I didn’t eat any of Mermaids’ goodies. Was looking for a gluten-​free afternoon treat wandering 16^th Street Mall and landed here. They did have a few GF cupcakes, but nothing vegan. Full butter, eggs, dairy and the whole shebang.
Apparently, they do bake vegan and GF on special order. In my few days in Colorado, I had already gotten spoiled by pretty much every food establishment offering vegan and GF options, so this was a disappointment for sure.

Friendly and cool staff. Light fluffy moist cake. True butter cream! (I was eating it right away so they made sure I got a room temperature one).

Found this small shop while walking from the Residence Inn to the convention center. Most delicious, decadent cupcakes I have ever had! Not for the faint of heart or health-​conscious (except that their cupcakes are gluten free). Definitely worth a try.

Didn’t know this place existed until wifey ordered a baby shower cake from here. While I was not hungry at the time, the two gals inside convinced me to try a cupcake or two. Wifey gave her recommendations and I bought a couple. I have to admit they tasted really good and were moist unlike the ones you get from the coffee shops. The cake looked cool too with the little monkey they put on it. Had some of the cake and it was good like the cupcakes were. I definitely recommend this place if you’re in the area.

I wish I had a pic but I forgot :(. The cupcakes we tried were amazing and the texture of the cake was outstanding. They were almost wet but not in a yucky undercooked way. Just a soft silky cake texture. I would recommend you stop by but the hours are crappy so good luck. We ran from the hotel during a meeting break.

Just to counteract reviewers here who were disappointed with the customer service, I just called from L.A. with what I thought would be impossible: same day delivery of a dozen gluten-​free cupcakes to a sick friend.
Mermaid made it happen! Claire was lovely on the phone and super accommodating and arranged delivery to happen almost immediately.

We were excited to try this place for my birthday party. Their website says they require 24 hours notice for a cake. My husband placed order Friday morning for pick up on Saturday afternoon, and the bakery called Friday afternoon and said they couldn’t have it ready. How do you run a business like that? Terrible customer service! Least they could’ve done was call when they received the order so we could make other arrangements. The person at the bakery called back several times, but was unwilling to work with us or help in anyway. We were simply following what was provided on the website.
It is true, the bakery did try to call my husband multiple times, but didn’t leave a message. So he didn’t realize it was even them until hours later when they finally connected. Had he know it was them he would’ve called back immediately.

Cupcakes are moist and frosting is very good. The Lemon is not tart enough, not enough tang.
The staff I encountered (twice now) were not customer minded or friendly. Better service always makes for a better memory.

What a wonderful bakery in the heart of downtown Denver. We ordered a Strawberry Fields specialty cake for my birthday. The bakers told me to leave it out for the day and to serve at room temp so that the flavor and texture would be at its optimum. Let me tell you friends, stealing peeks at a simply beautiful cake topped with strawberries, throughout the day while drinking chilled beaujolais and enjoying the sweet laughter of dear friends — nothing like it. And with each bite, this cake left nothing to be desired. Fantastic!

Not much to look at inside but the fluffer nutter cupcake I had was a little slice of heaven. Small selection, no seating, and iffy service make this a grab and go place. It is definitely worth the visit, however. I haven’t had a cupcake this good in a long time!

Not all butter creams are made equal. That is the one thing my professional baker friend told me. Some cake shops use shortening and not all real butter. And if you have not been kind to yourself and experienced a bake shop that does it right, then I suggest you try Mermaids licated in the heart of downtown off of Champa.
A nice selection of cupcakes just under 3 $ a piece and onlinr ordering was easy and simple with a prompt follow up phone call.
I got a 12 round cake which says can feed 20. It was bigger than I thought and could have easily fed 30. It was huge, dense, moist, and tasty.
Pickup can be a little dicey but there is a loading zone about 25 ft away from the entrance and the ladies inside are more than willing to help.

I visited here twice to by some Flight Attendant Friends of mine some cupcakes, and cookies. Girls hard at work decorating cakes. When I first arrived after 1 pm, case was FILLED with DELICIOUS looking cupcakes. I ate lunch next door, came back less than one hour, case was nearly empty. Bought Cupcakes & Cookies. The Flight attendants RAVED!!! Needless to say, I recently came back to resupply my friends with more DELICIOUS Cupcakes & Cookies! Cakes looked beautiful! It’s now a must visit every time I’m in Denver. Thanks Girls!

The chocolate chip cupcake I tried was fine. I liked the cookies even more. I would’ve given a 4-​star rating, but the service was not good.
I read a few other Unilocal reviews mentioning the bad attitude /​service before I went in, and sure enough. There were 4 people side-​by-​side working on decorating a cake or learning or watching. Not one looked up as I walked past them, in their window in the shop, while entering the building’s hallway. Fine, they were busy. But when I opened up the door to walk into the shop itself, and stood waiting at the front display case, 8 feet away from the workers, I wondered «how long will this take?».
I waited a full minute, inside the shop, cash in hand, at the front display case /​cash register and not one of the 4 even looked in my direction. So finally I asked «Can someone help me?» The youngest person came over, and said how can I help you. I pointed to two obviously different cookies, one chocolate chip, and one something else, toffee-​something, and asked «What’s the difference between these two?» She said «They are the same.» They clearly were not the same, so I asked again and someone more senior came over who knew the difference. I completed the transaction without incidence, but please, Owner or Manager: some staff training is in order. Maybe a bell should ring when the interior door opens. Or at least have a bell that we can ding if the artists are too absorbed in their creative process.
I am not normally a snarky type of person, but come on, 4 employees ignoring the sole customer in the shop? Cakes are important but so are customers. You earned this review, sorry.

A cupcake shop always brings a smile to my face! Was happy to spot this place and excited to try… unfortunately the hours were tough; open early but closes early so I kept missing out. Finally I just got ‘em in the morning and tried it later. I had one with caramel on it. Looked cute but not packed well so was a big sweet mess when I got to it later. So sad.

Hello, pie heaven!
Last week I placed an order for a Pumpkin Pie and things fell right into place. I placed an order online, and was called with in minuets to confirm my order. I told the bakery that I was not the person who would be picking up the pie, the took down a name and informed me my card would not be charged until the pie was picked up.
Mermaid Bakery called the day before my scheduled pick up date to confirm I still wanted the order: Pumpkin Pie, that placed last week. How great is that? Talk about rock star customer service.
The long and short of it is, I didn’t eat the pie. I ordered it for my besties birthday. Here’s his review on the pie, «[the pie was] incredible, smooth, silky, delightful in every bite! I felt like I was eating fall.» With a rave review like that, folks, how can you say no?

The only things that brings this down a star was the rough start and the price ($ 44 for two dozen!)
I had emailed Mermaids about 2 months before I was to come into town for my girlfriend’s baby shower with no response. (To be fair, 2 months might be a little excessive, but I’m a planner). Finally, around Christmas I emailed again. This time I did get a response that they were out for break until the first week of Jan, but would call me when they got back. Well, with no call and 2 weeks before the shower, I called them and left a message. No return call.
Finally, a week before the shower, I got a hold of someone and put in my order.
From there, everything went very smoothly. The cupcakes were beautiful and tasted good (I don’t know if they tasted $ 44 good). Anyway, my girlfriend loved the cupcakes and was very happy with the results, so all’s well that ends well!

My sweet hubs ordered a pretty delicious cake from here for my birthday. It was an almond cake with coconut filling and butter-​cream frosting. The cake was incredibly moist and delicious. It also had excellent flavor. The only downside for me was that the butter-​cream was insanely sweet, so we could only eat a little at a time. That didn’t deter us from eating basically the whole thing in the course of a week though. l
The cake was decorated beautifully. I would definitely order from Mermaids Bakery again.
