Mizel Museum

An interesting and educational look into the history and journey of the art of the Jewish people. As we walked in we were greeted by Penny, who did a good job on explaining the beginning and 4,000 year art history of the Jewish people that was prominently displayed. Even though this was a small building, the space was well utilized and the exhibits were very well organized. Anybody that enjoys both art and history will enjoy this place.

I went here for a field trip. I found the adventure fun and informative! There was many colorful artwork pieces that I found very interesting and neat to look at. I learned a bunch about the Judaism culture that i had been taught wrong about. I though this museum was very cool and our guide was wonderful and very helpful!

The Mizel Msueum is a wonderful art museum dedicated to Jewish history and culture. I went to see the painting by David Sandum which is on display until the end of January 2014.
I was intrigued by the numerous exhibits with so many art treasures documenting Jewish life, history and culture throughout the ages and around the world. The displays are user friendly and explanatory. These art gems show how beautiful and vibrant Jewish art, history and culture are.
I especially enjoyed the display of art done by Israeli artists. It was unique and intriguing, especially the wooden sculpture of a heed and feet. There is also a wonderful collection of Torah scrolls, Seder table settings, menorahs, Dreidels and ordinary items such as jewelry boxes and cigarette cases. All are beautifully crafted and reflect the talent and passion of the artist who created it.
There is also a wonderful display of sculptures outside the museum.
This is a must see museum for everyone but especially those who live in Denver, You won’t regret your visit.

I wholeheartedly concur with Ilona F.‘s review of the «Gathering Sparks» exhibit. The artwork and the artifacts are super cool and the exhibit was thoroughly informative about Jewish history, daily life, and yearly celebrations. I particularly enjoyed the portion about the Jewish migration to Colorado and the Jewish-​owned businesses established way back then that are still around today.
In addition to the viewing the exhibit, we celebrated World Kugel Day out in the museum’s yard. If you’ve never had kugel (we hadn’t), it’s a sort of noodle casserole that can be savory or sweet. We sampled most all of the varieties entered into the kugel tasting contest. One of the kugel bakers was none other than Daniel Asher, Executive Chef of Linger and Root Down Restaurants. I was excited to try his Thai Coconut Curry Kugel with Roasted Peach-​Sriracha Jam. It was quite tasty, but not my favorite. I liked the winning kugel better: Artichoke & Brie Kugel created by Debbie Foster. We also enjoyed some free frozen yogurt and sorbet from Menchie’s, watched some artists paint, and heard some live music courtesy of Rocky Mountain Jewgrass.
The Mizel Museum is an unexpected and delightful part of a quiet residential neighborhood. I’m pleased that it’s within walking distance of my home. I hope you’ll plan to drop by sometime and learn something new.

Whether or not you are a member of the tribe, run — don’t walk — to the Mizel Museum to see its new permanent exhibition, «4,000 Year Road Trip, Gathering Sparks.» It is a colorful, whimsical, unexpected (yup, there is a disco ball), joyful yet comprehensive series of installations that speak to the Jewish experience in particular and life journeys in general, all neatly organized in a compact space. Visitors are invited to interact with and absorb information through videos, books, iPads, paintings, sculpture, ritual objects and custom artwork (personal favorite: an interpretation of Noah’s ark).
