I love the Rockaway. It’s one of those hidden little gems in the city. The bartenders are the best ever. Friendly(if you’re not a douche) and appropriately hard-assed if you are. The beer slection isn’t great, but I can always depend on 2 dollar drinks. They get a pretty nice variety of music(punk and metal mostly though), and also a nice variety of people. Other than the occasional turds, everyone has always been pretty chill, and seemingly unpretentious. The outdoor patio is awesome, and there’s tons of space in the bar. Even if there’s a band playing it’s easy to go into the next room and ignore it. Covers are never steep. And best of all, the first Thursday of every month is punk rock karaōke, which means you get to sing awesome punk rock versions of pop and punk songs with a live back-up band. It doesn’t get much better.

This place possibly became my new favorite local music venue over the weekend! Great space, total dive, total punk rock vibe, quick enough service at the bar, and great music. Sidenote: Sooooo glad I was wearing my leather jacket… it felt like that was the dress code… PS-Not sure why there’s 3 $$$…it’s super cheap…

The Rockaway has REAL potential. It is already pretty fabulous. Dark, loud music, big and an outdoor patio. Plus ample cheap and/or free parking. Perfect. I’ve been here a few times, and enjoyed each time. Even the time where there was a drunk moshing dude that ended up cracking his head open on the stage — he was out cold. It was a punk rock show, so a fitting incident. My only gripe with the Rockaway is the sound person. Nice dude, but he sucks at live sound. I really think if they could get the sound figured out, the place would be one of my favorite spots, besides 3 Kings. Also, the ladies serving drinks behind the bar are fabulous and absolutely adorable.

This place was grungy, dark and awesome. Due to some management mishaps, the show we went to see was double booked with a death metal band, so that was distracting… other than that, we had a great time and will go back.

Okay drinks, and okay sound system. Parking is a bit hard. The place is dark, and not very well kept up. Looks like another Lion’s Lair in the making. Stop by if you want to hear a band, but I think there is probably better places to pour one down.

Denver has needed a place like this since the 15th st. tavern closed doors. Its huge complete with two bars, two pool tables, a good juke box, good sized stage, and a big outdoor patio. Right across the street from Bar Bar and next door to the Bulldog. Check it out and make a night of all three.
