SIP Fine Wine & Spirits

In the area for a conference and found this gem while walking around. Being from CA still dont have those alcohol regs figured out for Colorado (really, rite aide and walgreens dont sell alcohol?) I found this AWESOME spot that is kind of hard to see but is well worth looking for. As in other reviews, I am a craft brew lover and being in the «other» home to craft beers (aside from San Diego County ;)) this was a great find with a great employee who directed me to the Colorado brews. Purchased a well priced IPA called «400 Pound Monkey». At 9.99 for a 6 pack, this is about what we pay in SD county in the super markets for a so called «craft beer». Stone (a local brew in Escondido ie «north san diego county») usually retails for $ 15/​6pack. My husband also works for a large wine and liquor distributor and this shop is as good as some of his clients in the upscale areas of Del Mar and La Jolla. Kudos. May go back for wine tasting!

Drink some exotic wines while supporting a local business?
Yeah, count me in!
When I heard that they offer free wine tastings on not only Thursday but also on Saturday from 4p-​7p, I couldn’t believe my ears. Free wine? Like multiple pours? oh yeah, I heard right.
I went here on a Saturday and the dark yet intimate atmosphere was the perfect spot to get away the sultry weather. I got there just in time for the wine tasting and had so many «sips» that I really can’t tell you what the theme was. They had a nice variety of wines to try that day – riesling, pinot noir and other reds and whites. They school you on the background of the wine but also challenge you to think with your taste buds. Usually I can just tell you if I like a wine or not so it was fun to think outside the box and use my brain cells while drinking. Staff was really interactive, informative and personable. The best part is that they offer 15% off wines that they are featuring during the tasting so you can try and buy!
My only question now is… when does Thursday get here?

Great wine shop if you’re in the LoDo area. I stopped in here after purchasing a local Zowzee deal — seeing as we like wine so much, I figured I would give this place a chance. As some others have noted, they don’t have the hugest selection of high end wines, but the bottles I did purchase were spot on for what I was looking for. Chan was perfect in steering me in the direction of some wines I had never really heard of that were fantastic!
I have liked their hospitality and service so much that when I am in the area, I usually stop in and pick up a couple bottles. Most of their wines they carry you can find at other bigger liquor stores such as Argonaut and Dave Co, but for the recommendations and customer service you receive — SIP is the way to go. If it weren’t for Chan’s suggestions, I would not have discovered some of my favorite go to wines.

I love this place-​Chan is the man! SIP is so warm and inviting and I love the selection.
As a former Washingtonian, I hunt around for good Walla Walla and Columbia Valley wine-​sure enough, I’ve found some very good ones here (5H from Walla Walla and Forgeron-​mmmmmmm).
I’m not much of a wine drinker, but Chan has introduced me to some amazingly creative beer-​a Belgian strawberry beer (can’t remember the name, but a 4 pack is $ 10-​sooooo worth it) and Dogsomething-​this organic beer that they put lemongrass, coriander and a host of really unique ingrediants, but it is divine. And this is from a non-​beer drinker.
The selection on liquors is pretty good too-​I always like it when any store carries local brands-​like the 303 vodka. Good stuff.

SIP squashes the notion that small business=higher preices
Whether I’m buying a six pack of beer, a $ 10 bottle for home, a $ 20 bottle for a party, or a $ 100 bottle for a gift, these guys ALWAYS steer me in the right direction and get me the best bang for my buck. Plus, I was shocked when I realized that their prices are in line (and sometimes less!) than the big boys like Argonauts or Applejack. I do my booze shopping nowhere else!
Plus, it is the coolest looking store I’ve ever been in.

Wandered by this place when I was on my way to a Rockies game the other day. I was just looking for wine label removers, but was invited back for a free tasting. The staff was very knowledgable and friendly, and the selection is wonderful. I saw several brands there that I haven’t often seen in Colorado.

I love this place! I will admit, I’m a touch biased since I’ve known one of the people who work here for many years, but it’s a really great place with a wide variety of wines and prices. (for you males who are humoring your ladies and don’t really like wine, they have beer too!)
Chan is the man to see… he’ll ask about wines you enjoy and point you in a very right direction if you’re looking for a recommendation. They also do free tastings every Thursday and Saturday, if I’m not mistaken. Great place, go see them and fill that lonely wine rack!

Beautifully stocked with high brow and more accessible wines. Chan is studious and supremely educated on vines, wine and fun. He know his stuff, from Cheatuneauf de Pape to the «secret» Malbec that scores 98.
They also have a commendable selection of Scotches, and a large cooler well stocked with area and national brand beers.
Well lit yet warm, a really wonderful place!

Don’t empty you wallet! I drove up here because I heard they had a good selection of French and Italian wine. A beautiful store and the guy who helped me seemed quite knowledgeable and was friendly. But their prices are ridiculously expensive. I noticed a few labels I regularly purchase at my local shop and sip was nearly TWICE THE PRICE! I made the trip up there so I decided to try a $ 30 Sangiovese which regrettably was not very good. I guess you pay for the beautiful store in the bottle

Very solid place, very nice interior… Craft beer selection is pretty good, not as good as Argonaut but not bad… and you’ve got to love that they have the «Make Your Own 6-​pack» option available.

This is a nice little shop that has a great selection of wines. They don’t have as much of the heavy hitter wines as some of the larger wine shops/​liquor stores, but they make up for it in the mid-​range to lower-​priced wines they offer. They’ve got a friendly staff as well, although the prices are a bit higher than they need to be. If you really want, you can usually find the stuff for a few dollars cheaper elsewhere.

Since we joined their wine of the month club in mid-​2009, Chan has gone out of his way to get to know my fiancé and I and our tastes in wine.
When we went to Italy last summer, I came back raving about a vineyard that we went to. Within 2 months, it was on the shelf at SIP.
We make a point to buy the majority of our wine at SIP, and I try to coincide my wine buying with the free tastings on Thursday and Saturdays :)

Ever wanted to taste or buy wines but you’re too intimiated to ask questions? Check out SIP. They have an amazing selection and won’t make you feel like an idiot for not being a wine expert.
Chan is so welcoming and friendly. He’ll take the time to chat you up, teach you a thing or two and get you a bottle that you’ll love.
Their tastings on Thurs and Sat are great. Good way to taste wines and find something you like without buying just for a taste.

This is an awesome place! The look and feel of the store is amazing; elegant and very classy. And the staff is super friendly and helpful. They make you just want to keep coming back. Terrific selection and prices. This place sure beats going to a big box liquor store. Don’t miss the free wine tastings on Thurs and Sat nights. Check this place out… you’ll love it.

My mixed feelings on SIP…
#1) The people that work there are pretty damn cool.
#2) We found some nice wine for $ 9 a bottle. We raved about it. We bought lots. The next thing you know? $ 15 a bottle… Oh HELL no.
#3) They have some great beers at decent prices.
#4) I stopped by recently during business hours and a sign said «Be back in 5 minutes» and the door was locked. 15 minutes later I decided to go to Argonaut.
All and all, a cute little shop that is still working out its wrinkles. My wine purchases have gone down, but my beer purchases have gone up. Check them out.

Hands down my favorite place in Denver — not because I am a huge alcoholic or wino, but because I walk by it on the way home from work everyday and I can’t resist not going in. Actually, I know very little about wine, but Chan figures me out every time. I tell him what I am in the mood for and how much money I am willing to spend, and he brings a bottle that is cheaper than what I wanted and better than I expected.
On top of that, every Thursday and Saturday they have wine tastings. This is a tasting for all levels; I go in there knowing very little and leaving with an eye-​opening experience.

Fantastic. They have Argonaut prices and only good booze. A great selection and friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Hidden in the mess and cheesery of LoDo is SIP Wine, opened in late 2007. Nestled in between the fire station and trendious «Theorie», its a cool wine store with over 3000 bottles of wine, beer and booze. Only the good stuff is here as they are constantly looking for great wines at fair prices. They can find any wine you’ve been looking for and they even deliver for orders over $ 30. The sommeliers are top notch and you won’t find a friendlier and humble store, even though the place looks like a $ 100M winery. For being a new place, its got character compared to the other grocery store/​liquor/​wine places in town. Your $ 11 bottle of wine here will be FAR superior to the $ 11 you spend on Colfax, trust me. Actually your $ 100 bottle of wine will too… Not sure? Go in on Thursdays and Saturdays for tastings and meet Jim, Rob, Natalie or Sarah… see if you don’t come out with some of the best wine you’ve had lately for under $ 20…
