The Doyle & Debbie Show

The Doyle and Debbie show had me belly laughing through the entire show. A three person act that needs no more. It’s perfect at three.
Debby #3 is fabulous, when you see the show you’ll know what I mean.
All the songs are absolutely fabulous and you’ll never forget some of the lyrics. Some of the best songs of the night and yes these are real titles:

Writing this review has me laughing still. The hooky dancing is a treat as well during the show — just wait for it. You’ll want to sing along and get up and start dancing. What a fun show to enjoy with a group of gals.

This was such a fun show! We passed on the tickets the first time around, as it didn’t really sound all that interesting. But I’m so glad that in the end, we got to see it.
The theater is quaint and comfortable — this seems like it’s much more my speed than some of the bigger theaters. I liked having a server and it seemed that even the drink prices were reasonable.
And Doyle and his new Debbie were awesome — so funny! The songs were hilarious, the singing and expressions on both Doyle and Debbie’s faces were great — sometimes so awkward and so serious. It was really funny to see the guy who played Doyle in the lobby after the show, not in costume. He didn’t even look like the same guy!
We had so much fun that this might be one I’d consider seeing twice.

I hate country music. Especially the old twangy stuff. I do like seeing live performances though (both music and plays), so when Unilocal offered free tickets, I figured it was a great chance to take my daughter and her boyfriend downtown for a show.
It was more country music than I’ve listened to in the last 20 years and it was almost painful to sit through all of that. On the other hand, the story line and songs were usually hilarious! To take a washed up country singer who had a song that was #3 on the rural county radio stations 20 years ago and match him with a single mother that had three children before she was 20 made for some very funny story arcs.
I groaned almost as many times as I laughed out loud during the show. It was very cool how they made the whole Galleria theater look like a country bar with posters, pictures and lights strung up all over the place. Every seat is intimate although every seat is also uncomfortable and I usually find myself shifting around after an hour.
All in all, I enjoyed it more than getting my foot slammed in a car door or looking for my lost dog after having a flat tire.

We had a great time. The setting is a honky tonk country western club and Doyle and Debbie are the main act. Doyle, sort of a washed up old second string, country singer has had three different Debbie’s, as either the other two have either divorced or left him. This Debbie is full of heart. Just enjoyed the whole show with its satire on country music. There is a bit of raunchy and off color humor that adds to the fun. I really loved how they dotted the walls with pictures and beer signs from the country scene. It made it feel as though I was back in Nashville 30 years ago. Just lots of fun.

I arrived not knowing much about the Doyle and Debbie show and I left having very mixed feelings. The show was an hour and a half with no intermission.
A washed up country legend that somehow finds the gusto to resurface after finding a third «Debbie» to once again catapult the Doyle and Debbie duo singing act is made known at the beginning of the show. The humor is crude but funny and the acting was impeccable.
To build a show on only three actors and to have it become as successful as it has is quite an accomplishment; however, I honestly felt there were moments during the show («intermission» and the wig incident) that were out of place and too random. Especially during the «intermission» of the show I’m thinking it can be better used to build on the relationship of Debbie and Doyle or lack there of with slap stick bickering or funny retorts from one another. As for the wig incident in the show, I’m thinking I wouldn’t care to see it again or perhaps I’m not that knowledgeable of old school country music to understand the parody?
None the less, it was still a very entertaining show. The singing was amazing and the lyrics were pretty darn funny!

Where can I get the soundtrack?!
Just like other reviewers I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but it was worth a try. I even risked grabbing two friends of mine to share the joy/​pain whatever was to come.
Needless to say I was absolutely suffocating with laughter at this show. Hilarious comedy song writing and showmanship. I would actually consider bringing other friends to see it again. I think if I did I would laugh just as hard.

«The Doyle and Debbie Show» was a really well done performance of what
I call «musical comedy». I don’t think the term musical theater fits,
because it basically followed a concert format; a 90 minute
performance with 16 songs sporting tongue-​in-​cheek lyrics and very
short comedic dialogue between songs. Most of the songs were done in a
twangy country music style, in a sort of parody of serious country
music.
The two leads in the performance were both good musicians, with good
harmonies. Jennifer Blood, playing the part of Debbie, was obviously
a very talented singer, and gave some glimpses of that during the few
opportunities she had to showcase her skills given the music format.
It would have been nice to have a band back them up, but that would
have made it harder to catch the lyrics, which were more a focus of
the songs than the tunes were. I thought the way they handled the
backing tracks was quite good; there was a third member of the cast,
playing the part of Buddy, who sat off to the side «playing» a guitar,
while really managing the backing music. He also provided some comic
relief.
The comedy material leaned toward the raunchy side a bit, and it tried
to not be very politically correct. The jokes were equal opportunity
offenders to those who would consider themselves rather far left or
rather far right.
The Garner Galleria Theatre was a nice intimate setting for the
performance. If you haven’t been there, it is a small theater at the
Denver Performing Arts complex that seats around 250 people, with
chairs surrounding small tables that allow patrons to have a drink or
a snack during the performance.
The set design was minimal, but I thought the playbills and other
posters filling the walls of the theater were a nice touch.
Overall, it was a fun evening, and would appeal to most adults.
Definitely not for kids.

Let me start by saying that I pretty much hate country music. Despite this fact, I always enjoy my fairly regular business trips to Nashville, and on one of those trips a friend of mine raved about the Doyle & Debbie Show. So, when Unilocal offered free tickets, I figured I should give it a try.
I really had no idea what to expect. It was way more country music than I would typically sit through, but the lyrics were absolutely hilarious at times. I seriously laughed out loud multiple times during the show. There were other parts of the show that seemed slow to me, hence no 5 stars, but all in all it was a good time.
I really enjoy the Galleria Theater and would be open to seeing just about anything there. It’s much more intimate than the Buell and there are servers that will bring you drinks!

Very fun show.
I am not a country music fan but the show was simply hilarious with each song’s lyrics funnier than the last and Doyle and Debbie’s facial expressions absolutely hillarious throughout.
Although sitting upfront, sometimes I missed the content but with the repetive lyrics, I would get it the second or third time around, and every message was a gem of laughter
Having a drink included was a nice bonus, and the theater has a nice setting for this type of show with table sitting and service adding to the ambiance… I just wished I had dressed in character

So this wasn’t my favorite show I’ve seen at the DCPA, but also not the worst (see Dixie’s Tupperware Party — *shudder*). Neither of us are the biggest fans of country music, but we heard this was a fun tongue in cheek mockery of it. Mockery you say? We’re there!
Some of it was really funny. Some of it was mildly offensive, even after I took my social justice hat off. And some of it was just random (um…wearing his father’s scalp? what? ew!!!). All in all, an interesting show and at a fun venue. If you haven’t been to the Galleria theater yet, I highly recommend it.
As far as the Doyle and Debbie show? Definitely got a few laughs, and the best song was the ABCs of Love, hands down!

This is a tough one to rate for me. Doyle and Debbie is a dark comedy poking fun at country music — sort of. It’s not really country music that it’s mocking as much as it is those old country duo/​variety type shows.
The actors were awesome. Just a three person play, each one really took on their character. Personally, I thought the writing was a bit lacking. The songs were funny but somewhat repetitive with no song really standing out to me. I felt the writers could have really taken the lyrics to another level rather than just the straight, in your face sort of message (like the barefoot and pregnant song — or the «screwing» other women song) — shock value maybe but they could have done so much more with the material. I think I just like the more subtle but clever type of writing.
So the writing was ok but did not make the show. The performers did make the show.
A fun play with a strange twist. In fact, I think the show took a turn for the better at one main breaking point in the play that I won’t spoil for your.
If you find you can’t quite get into it at first (which was me — didn’t realize the whole show would be in song essentially) give it some time. I was surprised at how much I analyzed the show the next day and really enjoyed the performance.

I had no expectations walking into the Doyle & Debbie show. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant (not a huge fan of Country music) but I’m so glad we got tickets! I laughed until I cried… it was so well written, the songs were all hilarious, Doyle and Debbie were perfectly cast! The Galleria theater was the perfect intimate venue — it really felt like I was transported to a Nashville bar.
The show is a satire about an aging country western singer /​songwriter who has gone through one too many ravages of near-​celebrity success. Doyle, well past his prime, recovering from his last breakdown (a decade ago), is trying to recapture some of the limelight of his glory days through his «third Debbie». Debbie is a young, talented, naiive country singer with dreams of hitting it big in Nashville. Together they belt out such gems like «Barefoot and Pregnant», «I’m not a Homo, but you sure look good tonight» and who could forget, my personal favorite, «Fat Chicks in Trailers.» All of the songs were hilariously and tastefully inappropriate, in the best possible way. Just a fair warning to all the ladies (and some gents) out there — there is some highly dangerous yodelling to watch out for… it may cause unforeseen reactions, both from the audience and from Debbie. I know I saw a few flustered audience members who perhaps enjoyed the yodelling a bit too much! Also, watch out for evil hair pieces (be forewarned). They have bar service throughout the show, prices for drinks and snacks were reasonable — try the brownie… it was delicious!
I had a wonderful time– the Doyle and Debbie show is a must-​watch for country-​music lovers and haters alike… an absolute riot!

Arrived with nothing but a name to give a hint to what the show was about, something to do with country music. We had never been to the venue so we aren’t sure if the whole theatre was set up to reflect the show. It was like walking into a bar in Nashville, with playbills and concert announcements plastered on all the walls. Tacky Christmas lights were hanging above the bar. Staff and patrons showed up wearing cowboy hats and boots (sans spurs).
I read the song list for the performance and couldn’t help but wonder what we were getting into. The titles were strange and funny, and it said there would be no intermission. The show it’s self starts off like we are just at a bar, about to see a concert, with Buddy giving the audience a heads up about Doyle being sad over the anniversary of his dead dad and then welcomes the singers to the stage like it’s a night at Ryman Theatre.
The surprise of the comedy, banter of the two singers and the songs themselves made this a combination of one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in a long time. After ever song, I kept thinking «that’s just awful… I must own this!» I laughed the entire time, the energy of the crowd was equal in measurement of shock and hilarity. Some of my favorite songs of the night were «When you’re screwing other women (think of me)», «Barefoot and Pregnant» and «For the Children».
I would recommend this show to anyone looking for a night out filled with laughter. You don’t have to be a country music fan, you just have to have a sense of humor and good company to laugh it out with.

I got tickets to see The Doyle and Debbie Show and had no idea what I was in for. I knew it was going to be an old school country show, but wasn’t sure to what extent. This was a well put together show with some great songs in it that will guarantee to have you laughing out loud. There are song titles like Fat Girls in Trailers, I’m not a homo but you sure look good tonight, Blue Stretch Pants, and Barefoot and Pregnant. It’s full of sexual innuendos and pretty funny.
While I did enjoy the music, the rest of the play was a bit underwhelming at parts. We have a new Debbie with kids waiting in the car, Doyle dealing with Daddy issues, and a weird thing with some hair that may be alive. I was left confused to why that was even necessary. I’d definitely try to work on more of a story to go with the hair before just throwing it at the audience. All in all though, this was a good time and the Galleria is the perfect theater to see this in.

I was a bit worried when I tried to find anything countrywestern like to wear to the show, I found that I had nothing left in my wardrobe that fit that bill! The red leather boots were gone. No big fancy big buckled belt to wear. Not even a kerchief to tie around my neck. Despite my lack of appropriate festive garb, I still had the most wonderful time at this show.
This is only the second show I have seen in the Galleria, and boy, this one was down right funny. Doyle was the typical *guy* thinking he was the main attraction of the show (but down under you knew he knew it really was Debbie who drew in the crowds). Debbie was so cute and pretty. Going beyond her good looks and petite figure with her girls pushed up, her voice was pretty darn amazing. As a matter of fact, both of their voices, outfits, and personality fit the whole storyline nicely.
I was pleasantly suprised by this 90 minute show. I found it to be hillarious and very entertaining. The energy and songs (yes, can you believe it?, I even enjoyed the music even though I tell everyone I like all types of music except country). Would definitely recommend it, even if you are not the «country type».

I didn’t really know what to expect when going to The Doyle & Debbie Show. My brother had received free tickets so I figured I may as well give it a try. The show was a bit random and didn’t really have a plot, but it was quite enjoyable. The music was lighthearted and satirized stereotypical country music.
Although this was an enjoyable show, with songs like, «While You’re Screwin’ Other Women (Think of Me), this is not designed to be a family show.
The atmosphere was fun and casual, with country music memorabilia covering the walls. Unlike a traditional theater, the audience sat at tables and could order drinks and snacks throughout the musical. The wait staff was friendly and attentive without disrupting the show.

Show is basically living thru the «performance» with 2 sides of the stage active at once — one is the dressing room, one is the «stage»
Some of it is hard to hear, but then you realize what was just said, or shall i say sang and you chuckle, blush, or give a homer Doh…
Very cute and funny songs. Definitely sexual innuendos! Like the driving with no pants part of the Harlequin Romance song! Tee hee!
That Galleria is a cute venue, not really a bad seat in the house, super friendly staff, and they bring you drinks and snacks to you seat.
Definitely will give you a chuckle and a good way to spend 90 minutes of your life!

«Whine Whine, Twang Twang!»
The Doyle & Debbie Show is a side-​splitting and uproarious parody of old school country music. The premise of the show is that you are seeing a country act that is close to the end of its run. Doyle is an aging and troubled country musician who is now on his third «Debbie». Debbie is a young, talented, and damaged young woman who is most likely being held back from actual success.
With so many songs to choose from, it is hard to pick favorites. . but here goes.
«When You’re Screwing Other Women, Think of Me» (supposedly a top song in the Missoula, MT market over 4^th of July, 1989) was the ultimate homage to classic songs like «Your Cheatin’ Heart». The well meaning, yet oblivious misogyny of the genre was hammered home in a song that Doyle wrote, «.. . because there aren’t enough uplifting and empowering songs about women (so Doyle wrote one for Debbie to sing)». .. the result is the gut-​busting «Barefoot and Pregnant» which begins,
«Just keep me barefoot and pregnant
That’s all I wanna be
Just keep me knocked up and cookin’
It’s a surefire recipe
I’d rather have you come home drunk
Than not come home at all
Just keep me barefoot and pregnant
And I’ll be your baby doll.»
There were so many well-​performed, melodic, and mirthful songs stitching this show together. «The Snowbanks of Life», was a song where one learns, «If you love a woman you must let her know, With letters of gold write her name in the snow». And I would have to agree with Demitri R. that it was priceless watching Debbie react to Doyle’s yodeling (I am up in the air if that was yodeling for good or for evil). The sheer skill involved in D&D remembering the lyrics to some of these songs is truly impressive. Debbie’s «ABC’s of Love» is practically nothing by acronyms from start to finish. Doyle’s «Fat Women in Trailers» has some speed-​lyrics like, «.. . Beenie Weenies tuna peanut butter Cheez Whiz White bread Tater Tots suckin’ on a soda pop…» that pour out in one rapid breath. It was incredible.
In conclusion, I think we all wish, on occasion, «Brain, be smart», and it is hard to disagree with the statement, «I believe in the three R’s – „R“ children „R“ „R“ future». Thanks to Unilocal and Frances for providing tickets to this hilarious show. Heck, she practically forced them on us! Take three of them! And enjoy a free drink too! I only mock out of love :)

Absolutely hilarious. I wasnt sure what to expect coming into this. It’s part play, part intimate country western concert and part musical. Even when Doyle and Debbie take a «break» they are still on.
The songs have you laughing his best friend bud in his awkwardness will keep you laughing. The skits as well. And how Debbie reacts to Doyle’s yodeling lmao. I almost had tears in my eyes. I could see this show again and again.
Doyle and Debbie and Demitri has a nice ring to it.
