The Holiday Chalet

I can only express my deepest gratitude to the Holiday Chalet. I stayed here for a week when the pipes at my apartment froze last winter, and had a truly magical experience. My room was warm and cozy, the breakfast was fantastic (GET THE COWBOY PANCAKE!), the employees were pleasant and personable, the area is full of great restaurants within walking distance, and I simply felt very at home and welcome. This place is putting out some seriously positive vibes. Thank you for being so awesome! I tell all of my friends and family rolling through Denver to at least stop in! It’s at the top of the list for charming bed and breakfasts in Denver without a doubt :)

Place is in sketchy neighborhood. Across from gas station and former empty/​broken down car wash. That aside… it is need of drastic updating. I’ve stayed in B&B’s all over and this is in the bottom rung. Old and tired furnishings. I love eclectic but this was just old and broken down stuff. Poor bedding. Bathroom w/​o hot water or water pressure. Closets w/​o doors, shower door about to come off tracks. Cable tv not operable due to low signal. Not particularly clean and badly in need of paint and brightening up. My room and that of colleague had kitchenettes and sitting areas… most others probably same. Back in day must have been efficiency apartments. One day no breakfast. Cook was no show. Place has great potential but ownership needs to step up. Denver has much better to offer.

If you only require the bare minimum of service, and need a place to rest your head, stay here. People were nice and the sheets were clean but it felt like a run down hotel. I’ve stayed in hostels nicer than this place. Not worth the money spent. We stood for 4 nights and no one came in to service our room the entire time. When we did ask, they gave us a snarky note, taped to the door, saying the maid didn’t have the key to the room. What? Also, if you need reliable WiFi this place does not have it. It was spotty at best. It was free though so that’s a plus.
The pictures on the website make it look nicer than it actually is. It is, however, located in a good spot and there is a small garden to sit in if you want to pop outside for a second. If you are planning on getting away for a nice vacation or romantic get away and you want to stay at a full service B&B, this place is not ideal.

Crystal was very nice, but this place is very overpriced. The bed and pillows were so uncomfortable. We didn’t sleep at all. I have stayed in many b&bs and I’ve never had a bad experience until this one. The food was horrible for breakfast. Oscar Mayer bacon and foldgers coffee. Extremely overpriced for this kind of breakfast. I don’t recommend staying here

Love this adorable little b&b! From the service, to the food, to the cookies in the lobby, everything here is unbeatable for the price! The breakfast crew staff were so wonderful!

Lovely Victorian «Step Back in Time!»
This B&B was filled with antiques and Charm. Owned by Crystal who together with her lovely dog «Clementine» will graciously check you in. she orients you to the inn, the free Wi-​Fi, but best of all, you’re greeted with warm welcoming hospitality! The inn has in chanting rooms with interesting. Crown molding, partners, and kitchenettes with windows facing the parlor. Don’t let the antique plumbing fixtures or the radiator heaters fool you. This exceptionally clean and nicely appointed room has all of the comforts of home. The clawfoot tub has a wonderful delicious shower and plenty of hot water. All of the amenities you would expect from any upscale bed-​and-​breakfast! The Inn’s hosts, Josh and Dexter, emanate hospitality at its best. Not only are they attentive hosts, but they go out of their way to ensure that the guest has a comfortable and entertaining stay. They bake and prepare the gourmet style breakfast that is included in your stay. The selection is ample including cereals, oatmeal, and hot items. But the best part of breakfast was the delicious chocolate chip pancakes, and the homemade quiche! These two young men are masters of hospitality and culinary flavor! A room on the third floor is for massage therapy by Behr Body Works. Matt Behr, LMT, is an excellent and thoughtful practitioner. The Inn provides a comprehensive relaxing and restful experience. In spite of the inn’s location, (it’s on a busy urban street), I felt comfortable walking the area and sitting in the Garden. It’s a lovely, professionally run, exceptionally clean, and charming Victorian bed-​and-​breakfast! I can’t wait to return… Dr Yolanda C Leon. Update 10÷24÷15… Planning to return January 2016!!!

If you are really picky don’t stay here. But if you are looking for a friendly place near the zoo and botanic gardens, then definitely stay here. Why picky people should not stay here: no parking lot, but you just park on the street. No big deal.
Breakfast is made to order. If there’s a big crowd in the breakfast room, then you may have to wait a little while. no big deal.
Otherwise, the rooms are comfortable (#23). The breakfast is very good. We had choices of omlette, two eggs with bacon, French toast or cowboy pancakes.
Quiet place on a busy street. A much better feel than a cold sterile hotel.

Hotel was a quaint Victorian retreat within a city center. The manager/​owner Scott was very accomodating and made a wicked breakfast. If you are looking for a unique experience while still enjoying an urban lifestyle than this is your spot.

Lovely décor and the manager was nice. We got the suite upstairs and got to sit in the parlor room. We ordered a pizza to have delivered and enjoyed it with wine as we looked out the window.
There was a also a kitchen with plates, etc.
Breakfast was included and we had a nice made to order meal to start off our day.
I was a little worried about the neighborhood until we turned the corner. It reminded me so much of the downtown area of San Jose where the main drag meets 1^st street. The main drag is sketchy but when you turn the corner, you are in a lovely neighborhood with beautiful Victorian homes.
Parking was easy but don’t expect help with your luggage. Going up the stairs with luggage was a major pain in the ass for me and I had to take a vicodin for my back pain. LOTS of stairs!!!

I thought there would be parking but it was street parking and I arrived late at night and it was a main thorough fare but seemed dicey. There were no blinds in the dining area of my queen suite so the sun woke me up and I could hear street noise. Even though the price is very reasonable I won’t stay here again.

Absolutely a pleasure to stay here. The rooms are comfy, cozy and homey. Crystal (the owner) is just. Well. The absolute BOMB. It’s a tradition to stay here for Christmas every year now, even if technically my brother does have room for me in his house. If you are a tourist, you can walk just about anywhere you’d probably want to visit, including downtown. Oh –and breakfast is fantastic. None of this pastry and cereal garbage (unless that’s all you want). We’re talkin real rib-​stickin’ good food that’ll carry you over to at least noon included in your stay.

My wife and I stayed here after the Michael Buble concert in November. The room turned out to be more of an efficiency studio! The bedroom, bath, and kitchen (YES — I said kitchen) were each in separate rooms, with hardwood and tile floors.
The B&B is on Colfax, which while it may have some negative connotations, we found to be safe, and close to the local scene. We even ate a late snack at Pete’s just a few blocks down, good gyros. The B&B was delightful, the owner was very friendly, and had a great story of the history of the B&B, too.
The breakfast was served by Mark, who has a secret recipe for «Cowboy Pancakes.» It was just one, but this apple and cinnamon cake, made in a pan, would have been plenty for the both of us. This pancake was about 2 inches thick, and 6 – 8 inches wide, covered with whipped cream. Hat’s off to Mark! The rest of the breakfast spread was more than you could ask for — coffee, orange and pomegranate juice, milk, fruit, cookies, and on and on!
The nice clean place to stay near downtown, 15 minutes from Pepsi Center, 5 from the 16^th St Mall and Lodo, and just down from the Filmore and other venues, plus the value of Mark’s breakfast can’t be beat by the big hotel chains. This is no continental breakfast my friend. We highly recommend this B&B for a great change to the same old Hilton or Ramada rooms you have grown a custom to.

We came to the Holiday Chalet in Denver CO because I’d seen it the previous time I was visiting my daughter and thought it looked delightful. So when my oldest daughter informed me she was getting married, I knew I had my opportunity to stay there.
My other daughters and I stayed in room 23. The room was plenty large, king bed plus full size cot. Kitchenette with stove, refridge and coffeemaker, but no microwave or dispose-​all. Full bathroom and air conditioning. There is reliable wi-​fi, but no cable TV. They have DVDs available to watch in the room.
The Chalet has plenty of kitschy charm. The owner Crystal Sharp makes and sells Victorian era clothing and jewelry. The girls had to spend some dollars in her shop there. Update, a week later the rings the girls got all fell apart & the head fancy my oldest wore to the reception came apart as well. A better glue might be in order!
We stayed three nights, only had the chance to eat their homemade breakfast twice. That’s some good stuff. Far from the continental breakfast. Not buffet style either. They wait on you. Every breakfast made to order. I do wish they would have been serving the biscuits n gravy with spicy potatoes while we were there, it wasn’t meant to be though. Usually there are 4 items on the menu available to choose from.
There are two resident dogs. The lab is Clementine, and the Pekingese, Zorba, have got to be the quietest dogs ever. I heard no barking. The Chalet is pet friendly, and also provides pet sitting.
The Holiday Chalet also offers High Tea on certain days, you’ll have to call.
The staff is incredible and accommodating and very helpful. They really make the place welcoming!

Colfax is a busy street, plan on bringing your earplugs and night mask, the street lights are bright too! I was prepared. I wasn’t prepared for the homeless drunks that like to hangout on the corner, in front of the Chalet, under the windows, screaming and getting into fights. Even with earplugs, they’re loud! In this aspect alone, the Chalet seems out of place.
The house is an old Victorian renovated from apartment homes. It is multilevel, lots of stairs. I didn’t see an elevator and there are also steps on the entry. One does lug the luggage up & down, I’m glad I didn’t pack heavy! They do not have a parking lot.
Our room had it’s charm. Remember the building is old. Built in the 1800’s. the floors creaked, the wallpaper was ripped in places, drawers stuck in antique furniture and kitchen. Those didn’t bother. The toilet was fussy though, so with 3 women in there, that wasn’t fun. Also with 3 women there are many items to plug in, one socket only had a grounded plug, the one the air conditioner was plugged into. Use the computer, or the air, or charge the what have you… But choose one! Which leads me to my next point, when I was searching for outlets, I did happen to spot a rather thick layer of dust behind the headboard and head of bed. Just get that vacuum hose in there, problem solved!
All in all, the girls (21 & 29) and I had a great time. I totally recommend the Chalet, if you are looking for great people offering old world charm, and you are willing to accept the quirks of old houses.

The first thing I do when I vacation at a new city is to obviously find a hotel.
The three things I also need in a hotel are booze, drugs and prostitutes. And you can get all the abovementioned items on busy Colfax Avenue. Colfax Avenue is one of the longest streets in Denver and the sectional area I was staying most definitely reminds me of the Tenderloin and South of Market area in San Francisco.
But the rules in staying in the Victorian house, which was built in 1896, you can’t bring drugs or prostitutes to this cute 10 room home.
I found and booked this Victorian hotel for $ 99.00 per night from Expedia. I was here for two nights (⁹⁄₁₀ & ⁹⁄₁₁) for a total of $ 225.00.
Outside on Colfax Avenue you’ll see various unlawful activities. But you will be in a different and homely world in this Victorian. My room has wooden floors, a kitchen and a dining area with a view of the beautiful garden. My room:
The activity room has a kitchen with owner: Ellie preparing breakfast to her guests every morning. The activity room also has a consignment section too. A very cute set up organized by Ellie.
Ellie’s main objective is to make our stay safe and quiet. Indeed she did that and does an excellent job.
There is a Botanical garden, a park with running trail and Denver Zoo not from the home. Colfax Avenue also has many good restaurants and cool businesses, which I’ll review some of them shortly.

Staying at these Victorian home are different than some of the hotels I’ve been staying. I like my stay here and Ellie is very nice and helped me on my quest of the city of Denver.
I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed an entire week (8÷1−8÷8) while we visited Denver and took day trips around the area. I did a lot of research before selecting this B&B and was immensely happy that we stayed there.
The venue is very charming, quaint, and clean. We had a lovely room, #23. Fully equipped kitchen, decent bathroom, cute sitting area, and comfy bed. The furniture is very much in line with this Victorian-​era home. The wifi did not work consistently in our room so we used it downstairs in the dining room and spent time on their outdoor area accessible by the front door key.
The breakfasts were excellent!!! Both my husband and I loved them! They serve AMAZING coffee! The dining room has 2 tables which can get crowded at times however given they serve breakfast from 7:30 until 10am… we personally never had any trouble finding a seat and there is something so special about having breakfasts with other travelers. There is ALWAYS food around the clock… especially incredibly fattening desserts!!! While we were there we saw chocolate banana bread, cookies, fruit, granola, teas available 24 hours a day while the breakfasts consists of quiche, eggs, bacon, pancakes… very good breakfasts.
There are at least 4 folks who work at the hotel who we interacted with quite a bit. They were all sincere and nice people. We felt really comfortable with them and being that this is such a small hotel… having nice staff to interact with is more significant than at a large anonymous hotel.
The street that this B&B is on… is well… slowly gentrifying. So if you are squeamish and disconnected with all sorts of people… then the approach to this place may cause your pulse to quicken. Frankly, we parked our car and walked straight to the B&B and did not hang around our hotel. In my limited experience… there was not much to see or do on Colfax in our immediate surroundings anyhow… and there were some drunks… they kind that you feel so sad for. Anyhow… once you enter the B&B…it is truly an oasis. We LOVED our trip and a big part of that was because the Holiday Chalet was perfect in so many ways.
The thing that is excellent about this location is the proximity to public transportation. It is possible to ride the bus to and fro downtown to this neighborhood — the 15 or the 15L. We loved Denver downtown with so much to do!!! Anyhow, we took a taxi to the hotel from the airport which cost us $ 75…however we learned that it is possible to take a bus from the airport to the Market Station on the 16^th Street Mall and then from there take the 15L to the York stop and walk 4 short blocks to this hotel. That would have only cost $ 11 per person. Your choice!
The neighborhoods off Colfax are okay and then they get nicer and nicer… especially as you walk towards the Denver Botanic Garden which is about 4 blocks south. All of a sudden the area becomes INCREDIBLY nice. I jogged from the hotel to a nearby park 2 blocks away which was very lovely. I was out at 6:30am and saw ppl cleaning their windows, walking their dogs… it’s that type of neighborhood.
I would DEFINITELY return.

This was a fantastic way to end my trip to Denver. Service was really excellent. They let me check in several hours early (crucial because my traveling companion was very ill), there were homemade chocolate chip cookies on the table in the dining area when I got there, a shelf full of movies to check out, and the rooms! the rooms were perfect, kind of kitschy Victorian with more of a National Park spatulas-​and-​coffee-​mugs-​in-​the-​cupboards cabin rental feel than a nice-​hotel-​two-​chocolates-​and-​a-​box-​of-​ice feel. i had a comfortable, clean, accomodating stay. I am very grateful to the staff for making my last night in Denver a good one.
P. S. liquor store a block away didn’t hurt either.

I would recommend this B&B to anyone.
I was also little concerned about the location, but I did not have any problems.
It is close to downtown, which we loved.
The service was great. All the staff was very freindly and helpful. I liked the personal service and intimate setting.
Breakfast time got little crowded. If there were more customers coming down to eat at same time, they would not have had enough seats. We were fine, but I was just wondering…
The breakfast service was awesome though, and I loved looking at each dishwares with such characters! Everything is so darn cute and I appreciate the historic building so beautifully arranged and dressed.
All the rooms seem to be unique and have its own tasteful decoration and theme, I just enjoyed walking in the charming building.

We arrived about 4:00 PM and a woman talking on her cell phone let us in and got someone to show us to our room which was on the first floor within 2 feet of the check in desk and breakfast area. While we were in our room we listened to all the conversations out in the hall. My wife and I finally asked to be moved to a room that was a little more private. After a little talking they agreed to move us up to room 23, it was very nice. The woman we talked to was very nice and made it clear that she wanted us to be happy.
I still don’t know why they put us in such a crummy room to begin with since it was sitting there empty with the door open when we walked past it for breakfast in the morning.
Breakfast was just OK, another patron came over from another table to warn us about the quiche before we ordered, we had omelets and they were fine.
I think we might try it again next time we want to get away for a night or two, people we talked to at breakfast that were staying for a few days said they really enjoyed it.
I’m wondering if we didn’t just get off on the wrong foot with the original room they gave us

I’ll admit, we were first a little worried about the proximity to the more questionable part of Colfax but the entire experience was a delight. We were greeted as long lost friends and show to our room, #23. The room was adorable. It has a nice little sitting room off to the side, a massive bed, full kitchen, bathroom and closet.
As with many older buildings, the bathroom is cozy but completely usable. I was concerned by the review saying it was a shared bathroom situation but this wasn’t the case.
We had every amenity we could possibly need, clock, tv, great box fan (for those who need some white noise to sleep), window mounted A/​C, phone, wifi (never did find the password though), ironing board, hair drier and a great big comfortable bed.
The kitchen is a real treat. We went down and I grabbed a few cookies (delicious) while my wife looked through the cute little clothing and jewelry boutique. Breakfast this morning was great. I had the bacon quiche while Melissa enjoyed the mushroom quiche. There was coffee and OJ at the table and we enjoyed the morning chatting with another couple.
There is no doubt that we will be back. Thanks to the staff for being warm and friendly.

Yeah, it’s on E. Colfax. what of it? The place is ripe with history, most things you might need are within walking distance, the staff is so friendly you’ll want to move in, food is amazing and there’s a house dog and a groovy boutique onsite. hell YES my wife and I are going back!
We arrived late, were treated incredibly well and with a courtesy that blended to friendly, really. They were great on the phone securing the reservation and remembered every detail upon arrival… nice touch. We were greeted with a custom blended tea and the most amazing scones with clotted cream and homemade jam.
At every turn, the staff was nothing but helpful. When my wife wandered around the boutique inside, Crystal (owner and clothing designer/​creator) brought something up that wasn’t even for sale yet and it was perfect for her… bought it before it had a price tag.
Quaint, historic, friendly and fabulous. I’ll be more than happy to support this WONDERFUL local business.
