The Home Depot

This Home Depot is basically a contractor store and it always seems to have knowledge staff and a good stock all the important pieces, parts & tools you will need. I have been shopping here since the early 2000’s and rarely have any issues with staff or stock.

I bought a stove top range from Home Depot on South Colorado Boulevard (Glendale) back on November 28.
I paid $ 50 for measurement of the stove top, to be credited against cost of installation.
Home Depot never came to measure … but the stove top was delivered today all the same.
The delivery team said they do not measure or instal. «Get your handyman», the guy abruptly said.
I called the HD Glendale appliance section. Our original sales lady was not there today. The guy on the phone said they do not instal, period. I hung up rather than argue «&^%$*&^ … etc».
After three failures I did get an electrician from the Yellow Pages to agree to come out Friday to instal it, if it fits.
In a second call to HD’s appliance section a different guy said «of course we instal… but only using an outside service» whose name and number he gave me. He told me I had to call, he would not.
I decided not to delay calling Wells Fargo to block the $ 50 charge. It was a good move: Wells Fargo called HD Glendale, with me on the line still, and reached the right person, who finally did agree to blocking the charge. And that person was also the very one who should have been assigned to arrange measurement and installation as of November 28. No explanation why that person was not in the loop from the start.
To be prepared in case the Yellow Pages contact cratered Friday I nevertheless called the HD/​outside installation guys. They said I should not have been given their number or told to call them; only HD can set up an appointment. BUT, they quickly added, don’t bother to ask HD about measuring or installing any time soon —- they are booked solid for two weeks. Impossible to get to us before January 5.
I sure do hope my Yellow Pages guy keeps his Friday appointment.

Great for home improvements and supplies just as expected.

This has to be the busiest store I’ve ever been to for the Home Depot. For as much business as they do, they do a decent job. I would recommend some more help. If you do not like crowds this place is not for you. The location is hard to get to as well.

I went in just after open (around 8:10) on Sunday morning to rent a van. There was already a line in the rental room and there was no employee at the register. We waited, and waited, and waited. Occasionally other employees would come by and say «there’s still no one in here yet… Let me go see what I can do.» It took them until about 8:40 to actually get an employee in to help all 6 of us that had lined up. Not exactly a five star experience, right? It all comes down to who showed up to help.
Carmen came into the rental room (even though she was scheduled elsewhere and probably had other things to do) and helped us all with speed and accuracy. She knew exactly what she was doing, remembered certain customers names and the intricacies of their needs. She was helpful, fast, and genuine.
Home Depot. If I were you I’d give Carmen a raise. You’re lucky to have her. There’s no way I would have written a 5 star review about your establishment after waiting 30 minutes for help without Carmen.

A bit shabby, sometimes stock is in limited supply.

Management at this store is inept, disrespectful and in over their heads. Employees are nice, but untrained and I assume underpaid making them surly and unhelpful. Time to take my business elsewhere.
Checked the HD website first before I went to make sure what I needed was in stock at this location. I get to the store and look for the product. The shelf is empty where the sticker says the item should be.
After walking through aisles I locate and employee who is walking down an aisle alone and say very friendly, «excuse me sir, can I ask for some help» The response is, «ya if you understand someone is before you» I bite my lip and say, «sure no problem».
Spend 10 minutes with the employee looking at the empty shelf while the employee explains he doesn’t know where the product could be as it says there are 50 in stock on his device also. The employee tells me he doesn’t know what to do as he was left alone in his dept.
I ask if maybe a store manager could help. He calls the store manager on the phone and even walks us to the store office to try to find her, but no luck. She eventually calls him back, but makes us walk across the store to her as she couldn’t get up and come to us. She looks at the inventory on his device and says the that they are in stock but in the back and won’t be out till tomorrow. She says this is common. This is at 3pm. Doesn’t bother to apologize or offer anything to help me. I ask if the corporate office knows about this problem. She says, «I assume».
Wow! What other business in this country could you get away with this? I think even Walmart has become better than this place at that’s pretty crazy if you ask me!

Terrible customer service. The MOD Victor, he doesn’t care. Refused to honor a sale that was signed, he said the dates are on the sign and that’s what they go by. Well that’s wrong, they didn’t take the sign down.
When I got to the cashier, she was helpful, but claimed she couldn’t do anything to help as the MOD Victor was at lunch and not to be bothered. The next day I called to speak to the District Manager, the operator hung up on me.
Sorry Santa Fe HD, I’ll take my business where it’s appreciated!

After about 4 trips in 2 days, I have warmed up to the idea that I am finally a homeowner who enjoys doing projects around the house!
This Home Depot is the closest to downtown, and has some good, friendly service. I like that there is always a ton of parking near the Garden area, which is perfect for my projects.

Let’s face it, things have gotten better at HD over the past 5 years. I use to walk in and the employees were like coach roaches — they scattered to the dark corners of the store never be seen again. If you visit during the week, help is easy to come by, during the weekend, a little more difficult. The one thing I have noticed if you approach anyone in an orange apron with a question, even if they seem put off, they will find someone In that particular department to help you.
They have a very nice selection of everything a DIYer could hope for and that rack of books at the door can be very helpful. I have purchased everything from lumber, to paint, to carpet, to appliances and been pretty pleased.
Again, this is not Nordstrom so don’t expect someone to kiss your ass the entire visit. Know what you want and the general area where to find it. Folks, the signs are pretty damn big — that will help. Then just start looking. And don’t get irritated when contractors who look like they visit HD twice a day for their job get a bit more special attention. More than likely they have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the course of a year.

One saturday evening, my wife and I were settling in for our nightly slumber when suddenly from the basement we heard a sound that makes any home owner’s skin crawl, the «drip drip drip» of something leaking downstairs. In haste, I ran to the basement and discovered a puddle of water the size of a compact car sitting on the floor and the water heater’s tank dripping water at a steady stream. We knew the water heater was running on it’s last legs for when we bought the house in September we were told it was about 7 years past warranty but we held out hope that it would continue to be of good service. That dream came to a crashing, screeching halt.
After calling several plumbers and deducing that having a «pro» install it would cost way too much money, I started the process of finding out if I could repair it myself. After being unsure of myself, and having my wife’s encouragement, I decided that I would go to this Home Depot to see what they had in stock and hopefully talk to somebody about the problem.
The plumbing department at this store is incredibly helpful! They walked me through the process I would need to follow step by step in a way that was easy to comprehend and understand, pointed me in the direction of the tools, hoses, and accessories I would need to make this a top quality install for a fraction of the price of having a professional plumber do the same job. After getting the parts and tools I needed, as well as my brand new water heater, I drove home with the confidence of a thousand men and in about 2 hours, had a new water heater installed and in perfect working order.
Without the help of the plumbing department at this home depot, I would have either spent twice as much money getting a plumber to install it, or I would have had to make countless trips to and from the Home Depot as the need for other parts to facilitate the installation. Thank you to the Home Depot plumbing department! You saved my butt.
(I apologize for not remembering the names of the two very friendly, and helpful women who helped me, but they deserve recognition for the job they did and the attention they gave me)

I was contacted by Home Depot window replacement services, after signing up on some sort of homeadvisor help list (online). I was contacted on Sunday afternoon by Home Depot Windows to verify the appointment, as they did not want to waste their representatives time. I was told that a representative named Scott Carter would be showing up at noon today to give me an estimate on my 11 window replacement in my home. At 12:30 no one had shown up, so I call 1 800-​HOMEDEPOT. I talked to a lady there. She told me that the representative was on vacation this week and would not be able to show up. She was very apologetic, but I can’t express how amateurish this is the way to run any sort of home remodeling business. And this is Home Depot!!! Consumers are always warned to do, «do-​diligence» when they’re doing any sort of home improvement project, and I’m certainly glad that I am doing so. I would really caution people about using home depot as anything other than a third or fourth estimate to compare other window companies to. I certainly hope that their ordering processes are more prompt and efficient, and that their installation people are more professional, then their sales force seems to be. I may or may not reschedule with home depot, but there are other companies such as Window World and Clear Choice that would definitely be competitors for anything that Home Depot might be offering (although I don’t know, THEY NEVER SHOWED UP! !!) If these guys make right on this rank amateur performance, I might give them a different rating, but for now if I could give Home Depot window replacement services a rating of zero, I would give this company a BIG FAT ZERO!!!

I was contacted later today by Wayne Cruz (one of the supervisors of the sales team for Home Depot), and he offered to send someone out if I was willing to off ANOTHER half a day of work to MAYBE have someone show up. I had a very uncomfortable feeling in my stomach so I said no thanks and will be looking to Lowes or some other home improvement store to give me a bid. Good luck if you decide to use this outfit, but remember «BUYER BEWARE»!!!

If you come to this store with the bigger list, you will be sorry you came to this store, because they don’t have half of the stuf.

The store is fine. This review is for door & window installation. My advice: use another company. Yes, it’s convenient to select and order doors and windows from HD and the prices are ok. When it comes to installation, HD contracts the work out to some Joe Shmo who doesn’t really care about anything but getting the job done and getting paid. The quality of the installation is not great. The front door does not shut properly and a few of the windows don’t either. Scheduling the work was a headache, and the door guy was always very late and SLOW. Both jobs (doors and windows) took much longer than promised and both required multiple days to complete even though we were told they would only take one day. Next time we will hire a company who’s workers take pride in the timing and quality of their work.

This may be the worst place to get in and out of that I’ve ever experienced. There is one vehicle entry/​exit point between the road and the parking lot, which turns the parking lot into a gridlock that would make L.A.‘s rush hour highways blush. I’m sitting stuck in their parking lot as I type this right now… going on 20 minutes and I’ve moved about 12 feet.

Home Depot staff tend to be knowledgable and helpful, however I have spent the past half hour trying to find someone to cut blinds down to size. Meanwhile I have been told by a dozen or so employees that they couldn’t help me and that someone was on their way. It shouldn’t take a half hour to get blinds cut. Will be going to the Glendale Home Depot from now on.
They also need to clean out their swamp coolers they are putting out a fishy smell.
Also, for some reason they don’t carry anything between a 58″ and a 72″ wide vinyl mini blinds so if you want some cut to 60″ you’re $hit out of luck!
Rude unhelpful staff, smelly, and poor stock.

Good selection in spring, which is when we got most of our plants/​veggies that we did not grow from seed. The later into summer you go, of course their isn’t as many to chose from, nor do you really have much time to grow. They still have select herbs, but slim picking.
We have date nights at Home Depot, we love it so much. We got a great deal on a Brinkmann grill, and have to say it was a great investment.
The cashiers have always been helpful and nice. I really haven’t had a bad experience here at all. One time I couldn’t find a «hardware kit» with 500 different types of nails, screws, etc. they looked at me like I was crazy, but I know they exist… I dropped a whole set on the garage floors (oops, sorry honey) I will have to try ACE for that.
But overall, we have found all our gardening supplies with no problems, and continue to frequent often.
The only room for improvement I see is dusting the store, but not sure how that can happen in a store of it’s kind. Oh! AND THE BIRDS OUTSIDE, they make my fiancée have a panic attack every time. he is terrified of birds. So watch your head, I like to run at them and make them go away, but he dosn’t like that idea so much when they fly right at him. ha!

No help if your not white here! At least the Home Depot I normally go to doesn’t act like this! Wandering around the same two aisles looking for a simple washer for 20 minutes and 2 workers passed by asking 3 other white people if they needed help except me or my husband… and my husband and I were standing in the same isle not too far from the other people. Wtf?! Dude just walks by us after asking all the other white people if they needed help, then looks at us and turns around and walks away.
Only the manager was helpful after husband voiced our complaint. Gave us what we were looking for free and told us he would talk to his workers n that section.

If there was a viable alternative I would shop there but sadly Home Depot has sort of cornered the market. I’d rather drive an extra mile or two to the one in Lakewood just to avoid this place. I went in for some sheetrock and other things. I asked a cashier to get me help in cutting the piece so it would fit in my car. She ran off quickly and came back and told me she couldn’t find the person for that section and that I should look for them.
I went and gathered a few more things and on the way back someone asked me if I needed help. I explained the situation. They punched it in on a little handheld and said someone would be over to help.
Fifteen minutes later I went out to my car, grabbed my utility knife and broke up the sheetrock myself.
Home Depot obviously cuts their labor cost tremendously for the bottom line. The «I put customers first» is a sick joke.

This Home Depot is BIG. Seriously. It can be a bit overwhelming when looking for several items that are at opposite ends of the store. However the staff is extremely helpful and will take you to where you need to be should you get lost.
