Twist & Shout

Stopped in here the day before RSD2016. This place is the real deal and I am glad I called in as I was only in town for 1 day.
Walked out with loads of goodies ranging from obscure 90s Emo to some awesome kids story book records. They’ve got a great range of records, tapes and cd’s. The 2^nd best record store I’ve been to in the USA. Second only to the mighty Amoeba.

Holy mother of all vinyl! where have I been in my entire life? their collection of vinyl here is totally overwhelming. so many genre’s from pop, classic rock, punk and jazz. And its not just limited to vinyl, they also got a lot of novelty stuff here, from shirts to hats to accessories. This place is not your ordinary music store. Make sure to visit this place when you’re in Denver.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of music offerings. The entry sort of pulls you into the «this places is more t-​shirts, animé models, hats, and accessories than music» mentality. Once you get passed the ‘stuff’ there is an amazing pile of music here — CDs and vinyl. I had a short list and ended up wandering for quite awhile and finding loads of collateral damage CDs. Great staff, great selection, up in the top three or four music stores I’ve been to…

For several years there were precious few Meccas of vinyl left in the 303, Twist and Shout and Across the Trax were the last bastions of the superior audio medium. With the resurgence of vinyl in recent years (how you teach a hipster to say «Red Book standard sucks»?) more record options are springing up across the metro area, but Twist and Shout is still near the top of the heap.
Their vinyl areas are cavernous, and you’ll find some material by just about any artist, if not necessarily the exact release you’re looking for (it’s complicated). The staff are fastidious about visually inspecting each record for problems, and can sometimes work with you if you buy one containing damage that they missed.
When it comes to new releases (usually 180-​gram re-​releases) they are packed to the rafters and boast prices that rival direct-​from-​artist online prices.
Always very happy with this place; even if I don’t find exactly what I’m looking for I always walk out of here with a ton of awesome music.

I started going here years ago with my boyfriend. He loves music I love collectable vinyl toys. This is my one stop shop for gifts for my friends and family. I love the listening stations for finding new music while my boyfriend digs for vinyl. The staff is great, store is organized, clean and well lit. This was the first year I made it for record store day. We went last weekend. I got a free donut I thought it was a nice touch that the guy who was manning the end of the line had a bowl of candy and balloons. I always recommend this store to friends looking for music and gifts. Keep up the great work guys.

I love Twist and Shout! Even on the outside they gave the impression they sell vinyl records, CD’s, books, posters and they are all awesome bands! I love how tiny and cluttered the shop is with all their cool vintage stuff is showing off. They have a hip vibe to offer and present the most rigorous collection of soundtrack to the public as well as a friendly eye on people. They have overall fantastic service and people who are interested in you and your music taste.

So much fun. I have a deep Love for vinyl… Always have. Music sounds richer… Or maybe it’s a bit of sentimentality thrown in the mix… Call me an old fashioned kind of girl, I still have a record collection…
This place is a great place to find the perfect gift… Music lover or not. A ton of great tshirts, tchotchkes, hats, vinyl doll things (funko pop collectibles) pop culture books, socks, and just random fun things that I would gladly buy (given the appropriate budget). It’s in a great neighborhood (right by the Sie Center and a great Tattered covered book shop and free parking is always a win)
Oh yeah, and one of the best vinyl and cd selections in the city, a touch pricy (on some items) but music on a physical medium is becoming rarer by the minute so you know, supply and demand and what not… Staff know their stuff… So ask away… Love an independent record store. Support them & Buy local!!!

Great selection and large inventory. We spent over an hour in here just browsing! Though, they were out of stock of specific records I was looking for so I left without making a purchase but I had a great time!

Wow. I bought $ 100 worth of brand-​new vinyl records here yesterday. Three out of the five records were badly warped. Only to discover they have a strict no-​return policy on vinyl. Just… wow. Will NEVER buy from here again.

Twist & Shout is a media paradise. Everywhere you look are cool pop culture items from t-​shirts, to a sea of those Pop! dolls, to CDs to an awesome vinyl section. Listening centers line the walls, so you can try before you buy. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The selection is crazy good. They even have a parking lot attached to the complex (they share with Tattercover and others), so it is easy breezy to park it and run it. I love it! My only complaint is their vinyl sometimes seems a bit steep, but I suppose they price it accordingly (translation, you aren’t going to get deal). It is a must though! Go, see, shop!

I could spend hours and hundreds of dollars here at any given moment. They have all those weird toys you remember as a kid (Friday the 13^th lunch box!) in addition to tons of CDs and vinyl. I can’t say I was terribly impressed by the prices of the vinyl ($$), but it was a huge selection and tons of choice and if I wanted to spend the money on it all, i could have bought every record on my wish list.

Very weak electronic music vinyl selection, if you are into that. But most of Denver is not. Great jazz vinyl selection, and all the pop and rock you could ever want. Lots of extraneous trinkets for sale, but not really what I’m looking for from a record store. It probably helps keeps their doors open though. Store is huge. Staff is awesome. Great location, and prices too, for the most part. I will probably all but stop coming here when Love Vinyl opens on South Broadway.

The store is the staple for music lovers and anything funky a hundred miles around. If you want it. they prob. have it.
and all the kick ass clothing, toys and classic memorabilia they carry are killer!

I don’t buy a lot of music on CDs or vinyl (or cassette) anymore because I use spotify, but I came in here to take a peek. WOW. What a great collection of books, magnets, souvenirs… and of course, music. Separate large room for vinyl, since it’s making a come back. Way more books (related to music, of course) than I expected.
If you’re looking for a little something as a gift that is witty/​sarcastic/​funny (and maybe not super PC, you will probably find it here. As an example, there was a magnet that said «Nice legs… what time do they open?»

Went here twice during a recent trip to Denver. After reading several review on the net, I expected a lot coming here.
Pros:
–this place has a HUGE selection of records, CDs, and other merchandise (including books). Several different genres, all organized with artist tabs
–You can find alot of obscure records, or lesser known artists
–Staff are friendly and helpful
–Convenient hours for the working person (closes at 9pm)
–Good pricing on many records
–2 listening stations
–also sells audio equipment, and a few options new/​used for turntables (including Rega)
The only con — some pricing seemed arbitrary or a bit optimistic (ex. $ 10 for a copy of Evita that can usually be found at Goodwill for $ 0.50?). I spent a total of 4 hours here over 2 days and only bought 2 albums. Many albums are fairly priced, but those are items that would probably take a long time to move. Some of the more commonly sought after and available items I was looking for were priced $ 10 – 15 over what you would normally expect to pay for them. However, I did take into account that due to the location of the store (in the city, school area) the cost of doing business must be high so that may be reflected in their pricing.
Overall one of the best shops I’ve been to based on selection!

LPs, concert tickets, movies, video games, novelties and collectibles is what twist and shout is all about! That rhymed ill stop. Its a cool shop on Colfax near the tattered cover and they have a super diverse selection of… of everything. Plus they have tons of originally packaged action figures! Its the bees knees I tell ya!

Wow, this is the way to do a record store! I use the old school terminology to make a point. Yes, CD’s replaced records (and digital online clouds will likely replace CD’s) but this place still impresses with their selections both old school and new. There are lots of things to browse: 7″ singles, 12″ Vinyl, CDs, DVDs, books, magazines, action figures and T-​shirts. The whole front of the store is full of ‘gifty’ items, TV tie in’s and toys and the walls are covered with posters and other artwork. I could’ve spent the day looking through everything, but best to dole it out in small doses so as to go a bit easier on the wallet. There are negatives to be sure. Space is at a premium when browsing, so I’m sure on busier days it can be elbow to elbow. I was also underwhelmed by the pricing structure on vinyl. Its current popularity seems to be a reason to charge a bit more than what the market might bear in the near future when the fad for ‘vintage’ vinyl passes. Still all in all a very impressive selection and one that is constantly changing. Well done!

This review comes after visiting Twist & Shout on Record Store Day-​I will be the first to admit that such an occasion is a very busy day and not the normal day for this store, but at the same time, Record Store Day should be a good gauge for a store.
The bottom line is, this place was incredibly disorganized and cramped. While large in size overall, the shelves are incredibly close together. Normally, this would be pretty annoying. On this day? It was a downright nightmare. There were traffic jams just from people waiting to pass through the aisles, as a mere two people in an aisle block traffic.
Here’s where it gets really annoying, and weird. Apparently these shelves can be wheeled around and re-​ogranized. In this particular instance, they were wheeling shelves around to block off an area near a stage for a live in-​store performance. Where this becomes a problem is that the records I wanted to look through where in the «blocked off» area, so I couldn’t shop for records like normal. That’s really frustrating, and not to mention counterintuitive to a day where you are encouraged to go buy records from a local store.
I left without buying anything, mostly because I couldn’t get to the records I wanted to see.
I might give this store another chance, but the initial experience left a really sour taste in my mouth. I’ll probably stick with Wax Trax.

This is my kind of record store! A late amount of records available in any different genres. Also carries other cool items such as t shirts, posters, CDs, DVDs, books and random propaganda.
Found a couple good records including Eminem’s slim shady LP and Gaslight Anthems ’59 Sound. Spent 80 $ for five records total, 3 sealed and brand new.
Store is larger than it appears and lots of exploring you can do. If you’re in Denver you must visit this store; you won’t regret it!
