Vivax Pros

Using Vivax to paint our house was a great experience. Being in the commercial construction industry myself, I’ve very selective with contractors that work on my house and expect a high level of service and quality. Vivax delivered from the initial cost consultation through the final punchlist. Matt Stockel our Proj Mgr was friendly, knowledgeable and made sure we were 100% satisfied before they were done. Vivax kept a tight timeline on power washing, trim repair and painting… we were kept in the loop the entire duration of the project. Antonio and his crew that painted the house were friendly, professional and went the extra mile to make sure everything was done correctly… this made the punchlist very minimal.

This experience took two weeks out of our life. It was very painful to get a (subcontracted) crew of theirs to do the painting job right. The price was great. The Sherman-​Williams paint is the best. The carpentry work was excellent. Those equal the 1 star.
The negatives are many: poor attention to detail. Cannont paint straight lines. Rework and rework and rework and rework… ad nauseum. Resanded off thier messed up paint, and ruined the woodwork, taking straight lines under the windows to very visible wavy lines… because they were disgruntled, I’m sure.
If you have much patience, and don’t mind going through very sloppy phases of painting, only to have to complain to have it redone, and then again, and then again, and then again, and it still not right, go ahead, hire these folks who then hire subcontractors to do their job. Else, look for a highly rated review and read all the reviews.
Our home does now look great… from a distance. But come this spring, we will be doing some painting to correct several big errors (like painting the rest of the porch facing which was completely missed). I took scores of pictures as the process evolved to highlight to the company all the messed-​up painting, completely missed areas, smudges everywhere, etc. The company was very condescending in their response (yes, even laughing). I say avoid them if you can…

They painted our house exterior and did a great job. Even finished a day early, which was great since I went into labor that night :). The crews were all professional and they tidied up after themselves. I would hire them again, although I don’t expect I’ll need to given the quality of the job– that paint will last a good while.

I had Vivax paint our interior since we have an area with a very high ceiling and were unwilling to try and paint that ourselves. The customer service was absolutely excellent and they were very helpful with picking colors; however, the actual workmanship was lacking. I had them come out multiple times to fix things and finally gave up. To be fair, they have their warranty and would always come back to fix it, no questions asked and I really appreciated that fact but felt I shouldn’t have had to deal with it in the first place. The painters taped too high and there is an odd line of color on my ceiling. They missed a few spots, got paint on my thermostat and door trim throughout the house, and when they sprayed they didn’t tape off well and the dark paint color settled on the light colored walls. They came out to fix all of these things and did, except for the high tape line so their is still a dark paint line on my white ceiling. Overall, excellent customer service, slightly higher quote than another painter we checked out, but mediocre, at best, quality of workmanship. I’d give 2.5 stars and would not work with them again.

Vivax painted my home in April. I have a very pitched roof, along with a lot of «gingerbread” – Victorian home features.
They were VERY thorough as far as repairing rotted wood, the painting, etc. If I have one complaint, it is that the members of the crew that painted my home were not Vivax employees, but had obviously been contracted. None of the 3 painters knew any English. It would have been better for me to be able to communicate with them about little things that did not necessarily merit a phone call to the main office.

Stay away!!! They are extremely unorganized and our paint job was a mess. It was so bad that our project manager, Shawn, agreed to give us a minimal price reduction so the crew did not have to come back a third time.
The project started out with the power washing crew not showing up on the scheduled day and no one called to tell us they weren’t coming. I called late in the day after I realized they weren’t coming and they said they would have to reschedule to Tuesday of the next week. Guess what? No one showed up again. I called the main office about 3pm and they knew nothing about it but said someone would call me. One of the power washers that was way up north said he had 3 houses to still do and he would come by when he was done.
The painting started that Friday and took until the next Wednesday to finish up. The crew only came for a few hours each day and were sometimes sleeping in their van. We checked out the house when it was finished and there were some serious problems. They forgot to paint a downspout and gutter, the caulk around most windows was a mess, they spilled paint all over the brick and patio, the trim paint had dripped on the field paint, the old paint was showing through along the bottom edges, they didn’t paint the side trim piece of the garage, etc. We had a list of 50 items to be fixed. Obviously our project manager, Shawn, never came by during of after the job was finished. Several days later we did a walk through with him and gave him the list. The painters came back to fix things and they only did 8 items on the list and some of it looked worse. We did another walk through with Shawn and pointed out what didn’t get done. He said «let me get the painters out here again.» It had been 5 weeks since the power wash and were fed up. We asked for a discount and we would complete the work on our own. The discount was minimal and not enough to compensate our time for the two full days it took to fix everything.
The work was appalling and promise of quality is a joke!

They came and power washed in July… haven’t heard from them since, it’s now the middle of October. I finally hired another company to paint my house. I would stay away if you’re in Northern Colorado.

This was a hard one, the experience was not that great but the end product and the final result was fantastic. So I am sure this is not how it usually goes for them and it goes to show that your employees are the face of your company, good or bad. They offered a good price and a great warranty, the sale was there and then it went downhill. The woodworking manager was rude and a waste of time, he brought his dog and played with it in my yard while my dogs were locked up inside. He was late, broke my gate and did nothing to help. Their first paint crew was awful, as soon as the supervisor left, they took off. This was supposed to be done on a Wednesday, did not get completed until Saturday. Some bad employees in this company, that being said, Ben came out and took on the job after it was a disaster, he got a new crew that worked hard and did an amazing job. There were a few changes and I was picky but they crew took it in stride and went above and beyond what I asked for. At the end, Logan the owner came out and met with us, apologized for everything that happened and made it right. This could be just a comedy of errors on one job so talk with them, ask for Blake and just make sure that you ask questions and set expectations.

The are the WORST company out there! DO NOT EVER USE THEM! The owner told us for $ 2000 more we would get primer, sealant and an extra coat of paint which would make our paint last years longer. We got to know the guys while they were painting our house and they told us the owner totally ripped us off and that they paint every single house exactly the same.
We fought with the owner for weeks and started the process to take him to court for our money back when finally he gave it back. He ended up short an entire crew because the guys who painted our house quit.
This company is terrible and they only want to screw you out of money.

We recently had our house repainted with a new color scheme as part of an insurance claim from last summer’s hail storm. These guys did an amazing job on our house. Dave and his team went above and beyond to ensure color match for the trim when the color our HOA had previously approved no longer existed. The house turned out beautiful and I am more than pleased. Communication with the team was a breeze throughout the whole process. Thank you!

I have a civic duty to my fellow Unilocalers to give Vivax a well-​earned one star rating.
CONCLUSION: DO NOT USE VIVAX FOR ANY REASON, EVER. DON’T USE THEM EVEN IF THEY OFFER TO DO THE WORK FOR FREE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
PRO-​ish: They gave me a price break to fix the thousands of errors their crew created and avoid getting sued. (And now — months later — I wish I’d received an even greater price break, as I continue to find more problems and realize that some problems — such as paint in grout — cannot be fixed.)
CONS: Inexperienced, unskilled, careless crew. Sales rep lied and tried to re-​negotiate the contract after his crew did an atrocious job on my house.
DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO THINK THAT SCOTT-FROM-VIVAX’S RESPONSE TO THIS REVIEW MEANS THAT ANYTHING IS OKAY. His «offer» to correct what his crews repeatedly failed to correct over the course of TWO WEEKS amounts to NOTHING. Vivax is a LEGEND among painters in the Denver area. Read on, and you’ll see why this excuse for «customer service» makes a mockery of the term. And if Scott wants to call me on this, rest assured that I have literally thousands of pictures and hours of video — including of the sales rep lying to my face — that I’d be happy to show him and any court in which he’d like to discuss matters.
I started writing this review two days into what was supposed to be a 5-​day job. They never finished — instead, it ended two weeks later with me cutting a check to the regional manager and telling him that NEITHER HE NOR HIS CREW WAS TO EVER SET FOOT ON MY PROPERTY AGAIN. They left behind massive piles of trash and countless paint drips on the floors, counters, mirrors, heater vents, tile grout, windows… everywhere.
The crew consisted of 2 to 7 people who changed from one day to the next. I never knew who was going to show up or for how long and whether anyone spoke any English at all. (fortunately I speak Spanish), and the sales rep had no idea what they were doing and didn’t care. You’d think the guy with the impact driver would have reduced the torque setting after he stripped the first 11 screws in the door hinges, but nooooo.
Vivax does not use brushes and rollers, which apply much more paint to the walls. Instead, they spray everything, which is faster and saves them money by using less paint, but the coverage is terrible. They had to re-​shoot one room FOUR TIMES. That’s how thin the paint sprays on. The crew taped the edges and then CUT (not pulled) it away, leaving painted tape behind. The problem is that the blue edge of the tape, while thin, is still visible, especially in the corners, where tape from adjoining walls overlap.
Also, this crew had NO IDEA how to re-​texture walls. Their problem began with buying the wrong spray-​on texture, and (of course) it went downhill from there.
I don’t have energy to write at length about the freshly-​laid hardwood floors, so I’ll just say that the Vivax crew knew they needed to be careful and the sales rep promised me that they would triple-​cover the floors. Yet the crew didn’t give a hoot and inflicted plenty of damage.
Similarly, can’t go into detail about all the problems I encountered, from dishonesty to carelessness to damage caused by the Vivax crew. Suffice it to say, they are the worst company I’ve ever dealt with in my life, and you would be a complete fool to hire them to do anything.

I did not actually hire Vivax, but I wanted to make people aware that they should definitely get quotes from other contractors. Vivax was literally twice the cost of the contractor that I actually hired. I received the exact same paint job (2 coats) plus an additional 3^rd coat on my trim for half the price. The Vivax sales guy was a bit pushy and claimed that they have the best crew in town, which is why they cost so much. They may do a great job, but don’t think for a moment that you’re getting a better product because you’re paying more.

Great experience all around! We called them from a flyer to get an estimate. Pricing was reasonable, so they walked us through the process. They accommodated our schedule, were clean and even took extra steps to ensure every inch of the paint job was covered.
We will definitely use them again and suggest to anyone looking to complete a paint job.

After receiving many quotes from other painting companies, Vivax was very reasonable priced and fit our budget.
Louis Wyman, the project planner, was my first contact with Vivax. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and approachable.
He answered all my questions (trust me there were a lot) without hesitation. He explained the warranty, the different options they offer and the painting process. You could tell that he is 100% confident in the product he is selling.
We also needed a hole on the side of the house fixed from a doggy door we had, he said, «No problem, we can fix that!» He followed up to make sure everything was going smooth.

He made sure they knew how I wanted my house painted and didn’t mind going the extra mile to make sure it was to our liking.
It was so easy getting ahold of people at Vivax. Everyone that we had contact with at Vivax was always so happy and that made working with them super easy.
So, far it has been one of the easiest home project that we have done. Great company and great people. I’ll let you know how the outcome is!

We moved a few months ago and decided that since we love the paint job that Vivax did for us before, that we wanted to use them again. The experience with them before was so-​so, but the paint job itself was pretty stellar and held up to some harsh winters and hail storms, so going with them seemed liked a safe bet.
The process to have the salesperson come out was pretty painless and she gave us a quote in about 30 minutes or so. Our house didn’t look like it had been painted in –literally — forever, so we knew there was going to be a lot of prep work that needed done. We also wanted them to strip the deck down and refinish it for us, so that added to the cost as well.
I thought it was a little pricey, but where I think Vivax excels is in their warranty (you pay for how much warranty you want, I think the minimum is 6 years). If you need touched up in a year or so (or 5 years), they’ll come out and do the touchups for free. With out old house they called us near the end of the warranty and asked if we needed anything touched up. It was a nice touch and is definitely a big part of the reason we went back with them.
The scheduling was a little bit of a bear. We called them toward the end of April and were already scheduled to get new windows in at the beginning of June so knew the paint had to go after. Summer months are obviously their high time so we got on the schedule at the end of June. Then, of course, the monsoon season here in Denver hit so we ended up getting pushed out, but only by a few days.
Vivax subcontracts all — or at least most — of their work, so on the Saturday before we were to get painted our Project Manager (Austin) came out and brought Pablo and his crew from Jorge Painting to come out and meet us and start the prep work. The crew spent about 3 or 4 hours here doing a lot of the prep (they take care of any nail pops and also caulk/​prime the bottom 3 levels of your siding).
They showed up about 8am on Monday to start the work and it took a solid 2 days to get everything done. We were completely changing all of our colors so it took a little bit of extra work. But they did a good job of cleaning up after themselves and the end product looks amazing. We’ve already had all of our neighbors come by and compliment us on the work.
My only knock lies somewhere between Austin and the crew. I’m not really sure where the communication problem was, but during the beginning of the process they go over all your color choices with you. My wife had written up a big sheet (in color) detailing exactly where the main color was to go, the trim color, and the accent color. When the PM came over to do the walk thru we went over it with him yet again. Halfway thru the first day i went outside and the garage door was not the right color. Both Pablo and Austin apologized and it was quickly corrected, but it was still a little startling going out and having an «ah crap» moment. We had another little screw up later with the color on part of our deck, and again it was quickly corrected. But still, if everyone had paid a little better attention it would have been fine.
Either way, still a positive experience and I’d definitely use Vivax again.

Great experience from start to finish. Very professional and very good quality. We had them paint the exterior of our house and it was a great experience. Great bidding process and help picking colors, great coordination with office staff to plan the work, great work and very quick and CLEAN. The PM was a very strong communicator and kept us posted on every step of the way.
you might pay a bit more, bit think about the time and quality of the work along with warranty. I will recommend and use again. Great work.

This is the second time I have had the pleasure of working with Vivax. The first time was four years ago when they painted my house and took care of everything! We told them the colors we liked off another house we saw and they were able to get those colors matched through their brand of paint they used. I was able to pick up some samples of the colors to make sure we liked the colors on the house. They even dealt with our HOA to get the colors approved. The crew was professional and great to work with.
Jump for years down the road and I needed them to paint or house again due to some hail damage. I worked with Rachel and Jamaya to set the appointments and the paperwork. The project manager Bobby worked with the forman Jose to complete the work. Each employee was always very nice and worked around my busy schedule to get the job done. It is nice to work with such professionals and to know the job will get done correctly and at a great price. I will be using Vivax for life!

I had Vivax paint the exterior of my house recently, and overall it was a good experience. The house looks good, though I did have them come out and do some touch ups on places that I feel like they went too fast on before (front door, shutters, some trim). But they do warranty work with no questions asked, just took a little time to get them to come out (I’ll blame most of that on the weather though).
I dealt with a lot of different people at the company, and all of them were friendly and helpful. The owners are the best to deal with though, they take your opinions very seriously and get things taken care of quickly.
My only real problem with them was clean up, they were pretty messy and I had to do a lot of clean up from the work (and trash the crew left from lunch) after they were done.
Overall a good experience though.

Had Vivax come out and paint a room at my mothers home.
The price for the work I saw completed was stunning. I have to think you can find better value elsewhere… It is «professional» but it is also painting.
Will look elsewhere next time.

So far I have only scheduled with Vivax, they will be painting the house more than a month from now and I wanted to be sure to put my comments out there before I forget. I’ll try to update this post to include quality and service for the actual painting when available.
As far as front end customer service goes, they could not be better. They were professional over the phone when scheduling the quote and followed up with an email. The estimator arrived on time and was extremely professional. He took his time making the necessary measurements and discussing options with us. The quote was detailed with line item cost for woodwork which gives me confidence that if anything comes up later, it will be very clear whether or not it was in the original bid and assurance that any change order, if necessary, will be priced consistently and fairly. Their price is quite reasonable. After receiving a quote, they followed up by phone the next day to schedule the services and followed that call with a detailed email documenting everything.
We’re painting our house to sell it, so it was a plus that their warranty is transferable to the next homeowner.
I’m looking forward to the actual painting.
