Wax Trax Records

This place is alright. I’m a fan of records stores in general. Every time I go in here I’ll have at least 5 albums in mind to purchase (specifically in the records side) and usually leave disappointed because none will be in stock. Parking in capitol hill is always a bitch. Curly haired boy that works there is cute so that’s a plus.

Really quite impressive.
Very good selection of used albums and a reasonable selection of new reissues.
My personal collection is 3,000+ LPs and still I found some great pieces at very reasonable price.
Well organized, which is a real treat and very friendly and helpful staff.

Great selections! Staff is friendly but we were left alone (we were just browsing). Maybe ask a bit more though if we are looking for something special? But no real complaints!

It’s a pretty legit record store with a huge selection. Some of them are used, but some of them are new/​resissues of the (old) albums you think you’re getting. so just try to be attentive to that. They’re out of a lot of stuff too, despite having the artist placard there. but I suppose that means someone is buying it.
Vinyl dorks, obviously you’ll like this place. Mp3 dorks, you’ll probably like it too. though of many a record store I have been to I don’t particularly see this one as incredibly different or unique from others. It’s got a history behind it though. can’t deny that. For that reason alone, it is worth a visit.

Awesome record store. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and the selection is great. Additionally, the one time I had what I felt to be a bad buy (low quality pressing), the owner was very friendly and allowed me to exchange it even though it was new and I had opened it. Prices are either on par with the Internet or *lower.* I’d love to keep writing more, but I’m headed out to Wax Trax.

This is exactly what a record store should be! Great organization, a huge array or vinyl and extremely reasonable prices, it was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had at a vinyl store and made my trip to Denver even more awesome than it already was!

I’ve been here several times, and I can’t walk out of here without emptying my wallet! You can find practically anything you’re looking for in here. Their used vinyl starts at $ 2.50 and goes up from there, depending on the condition or rarity of the item. Colored vinyl and picture discs start at about $ 10. The new records start at about $ 25. For the posted pictures that show the store to be on the corner of the building, the vinyl store is no longer on the corner, but two doors down to the right, and re-​branded Wax Trax II.

Solid collection of records, esp alternative, punk, etc. large collection of classical but with overly specific classification system making it hard to navigate. Solid hip hop, jazz, and international selection. All new and used. I definitely prefer their prices over Twist & Shout. If I lived in Denver area this would be my go-​to record store. They should get a local 33 section tho!

One of the few records shops I’ve been to with a good classical selection (organized too!!).
Shop is organized with Used items in one half of store, other half is new items. I find it redundant to search for same artist in new and used, but thats not a negative, just preference.
Selection is pretty good, although note that some items I checked out had optimistic pricing based on condition — I usually don’t pay more than $ 6 for a record with scratches that pop on playback unless its a rare album. To see one go for $ 8 that is somewhat common is a stretch for me.
However, overall great selection, friendly staff. Location is a bit challenging in terms of parking.

How do you exchange pleasantries with an old lover who is now a bit long in the tooth? What do you say, how do you react? Wax Trax vinyl has been my go-​to brick and mortar vinyl music store for two decades, it’s hard to imagine what I’d do without her.
It should be noted the current state of affairs. Anything terribly rare or hard to find most likely won’t be located here. They will carry a lot of old standards, quite a few 180-​gram reissues, and of course new vinyl releases by the ton (isn’t it awesome that they even exist??). The staff are crazy knowledgeable about every conceivable music release on vinyl, and can help to locate or order whatever they don’t carry.
There are those that believe that vinyl is a thing of the past, that the «good enough» garbage of lossy compression and highly-​portable file sizes are king now. There are also those that worship at the altar of audio fidelity, and who refuse to sacrifice audio quality for mere reproducibility. Either way we *have* to have stores like this, and regardless of the cost we cannot let a superior audio technology fade away.

I came in looking for an obscure album, the woman working was down to earth and knowledgeable. They didn’t have the specific album so she offered to order it for me. I declined and continued to shop and found some absolute gems in the used albums and a great selection of new as well. Has the look and feel of a classic music store without the pompousness often found in similar establishments. I WILL be back.

I go to the record store, not the CD store. It’s ok, but the space for the used section could stand to be larger. There are a lot of records in stacked-​up boxes that I’d like to look through but there’s just no room to do so. Not sure if I’ll go back after I read on Reddit about Wax Trax allegedly selling a «Record Store Day» release on ebay (which is supposedly a violation of the RSD pledge).

This record store is my favorite in the Denver area. The staff are awesome, the records are in good condition. The atmosphere is shabby chic. I almost don’t want to write this review, so you stay away the potential gems I am hunting down.

Denver you have no idea how lucky you are to have a record store like Wax Trax. This place is a mecca to vinyl. I’ve turned my amps east in homage.
The shop is stuffed to the brim, with every conceivable genre and artist. I was completely overwhelmed with the selection they offer, and those prices! I bought pristine copies of the greatest hits of Bobby Darin and Waylon Jennings for $ 7 total. I would’ve liked to spend days in Wax Trax just obsessively combing through all the bins until I was sure I had in my possession everything that I wanted or suspected I needed, but alas time and money are in short supply these days. At any rate, if you scrounge up enough dinars and find yourself in the favor of the prophet make the pilgrimage here and worship at this temple to the audio gods.

Wax Trax Records may now unofficially be Wax Trax CD’s, but it’s still the same place. Once again a staple of my high school days, back then this was the only place to find certain albums that would never be seen in the larger record stores. While you can now find the most obscure bands online or download and for much cheaper, I still like to buy the occasional «hard copy» from a place like this. I couldn’t help but chuckle as I leafed through the racks and saw bands that I never even thought about on cd, and may have bought a couple, both for the sake of nostalgia and love of the music.
It’s small and somewhat cramped, but maybe that’s because it just isn’t the kind of place that attracts the big crowds. You know the store that makes for the main setting in High Fidelity? I truly believe it was based on Wax Trax. It’s even complete with some aloof staff who are just cool enough to not have to interact too much with the customers, although they are helpful when asked. I truly love this store, and have forgotten how much I missed going in and shopping for music.

This is a great hole-​in-​the-​wall music store located in Cap Hill. Sadly, I haven’t been here in quite some time. However, back in my college days, this was my go-​to spot for any obscure B-​Sides and rarity albums I was looking for at the time.

I loved shopping here because they always had albums that you could not find anywhere else. So needless to say, I always left pleased!
The place is crammed from floor to ceiling with music, which definitely gives the place some character!
If you’re a music fan, I would highly recommend checking this place out! Speaking of which, I need to pay them a visit soon. It’s been too long!

I remember I used to hit up Wax Trax back in my high school and college days for those rare hard-​to-​find import albums from obscure underground artists about 25 years ago and this store looks EXACTLY the same as it did back then! I swear not a single day has passed and when you walk in the store looks the same as it did back then! It’s dirty and grungy and still has the stereotypical Goth head working behind the counter. Bauhaus was even still playing on the overheads, I kid you not! Not sure it really appeals to the Hipsters of today but hey, the fact that they are still there after all these years when most record stores have become extinct is pretty impressive.
I don’t have much need to go there now, most of this music can be found online from various outlets, and CD’s are going the way of 8-​track tapes, but I do give them nostalgia points for making me feel like I stepped back in time to my youth.

Yup, still the same old Wax Trax. I guess some things never change.

1^st off I love me some Vinyl so it’s a little hard for me to rate any place with a large selection of used vinyl poorly. Wax Trax in particular is one of my favorites, partially due to being a block from my house and secondly the typically great selections of my favorite classic rock hits. I’ve bought hundreds of records here and will continue to. Every time I come in I typically can find another nugget I didn’t even think about. The staff is hit or miss… if you get a friendly person they’ll be a great little conversation, or you could get a somewhat groggy hipster in which you may have to do a sort of soup nazi’esqe shuffle and pay and get out of there. Whatever, I like it!
If you love records, you love this place, parking might be a little tough depending on the day or time you come, but definitely make it happen. I recommend this place highly to everyone!

Wow, this place is fantastic! Here are a few little things to know that already make it pretty great:
1. They actually play vinyl over the store speakers-​you could hear them changing it, and those lovely little pops as the record started. While I was there, they were spinning great 60s rock.
2. The organizing cards are ALL handwritten-​and there are probably several hundred of them!
3. They have a «holiday» section, which includes records with Halloween sounds to put on at a party. Come on… how cool is that?
So after receiving a shiny new turntable and speakers from my folks for my birthday and sorting through the collection of records they gave me, I discovered there were a few I thought I still needed. Enter Wax Trax…
This place is a music fan’s nirvana. SO many records packed into the store, both new and used (remastered re-​issued vinyl is a big thing right now). After realizing I was only looking in the «new» section, I went to check out the used section, and that’s where I struck gold. I looked and looked and looked for maybe 45 minutes, and finally landed on 2 Beatles albums, a Led Zeppelin album, a Ventures album, and a little 45 of «The Lion Sleeps Tonight».
By the way, this all cost me about $ 22. TOTAL steal!
I didn’t spend as much time browsing the 45s, as they’re REALLY packed in there and aren’t as well organized as the 33s, but they’re still so great. There’s something about that musty/​dusty smell of an old record sleeve.
As I continue to build my collection, Wax Trax will be my one-​stop shop. If you love buying music the «old fashioned way», and especially if you love to find older, classic stuff, look no further. Wax Trax is amazing!
