Specialties
The mission of Aging Resources of Central Iowa is to lead, advocate and serve as well as plan and coordinate services in the provision of services to persons in central Iowa, their families, caregivers or representatives enabling elders to lead independent, meaningful and dignified lives in the least restrictive environment.
Our goal is to allow older adults individual choices in their care process in order to remain safe and independent in their homes. We accomplish this through: Information and Assistance, Case Management Family Caregiver Program.
We serve central Iowa counties: Polk, Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Story, and Warren. We have contracted service providers in some of our outlying counties to ensure quality services are
available to all persons within our catchment area.
History
Established in 1973.
In 1973 the Central Iowa Regional Association of Local Governments (CIRALG), applied for designation as an Area Agency on Aging (AAA). In 1981 a special sub-committee of CIRALG recommended that the AAA become a free-standing, private, non-profit agency. In 1982 the Iowa Commission on Aging (now Iowa Department on Aging) granted AAA status to CrossRoads of Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Inc. with the same eight county service area (Area XI). In 1994, the Strickler Emergency Assistance Program was created. In 1996 the agency’s name changed to Aging Resources of Central Iowa to help identify the purpose/mission of the agency. And in 2002, Aging Resources Board of Directors established Aging Resources Foundation as a separate 501©(3).
