Specialties

We are a licensed COBRA Self-​Defense training center and specialize in real-​life self-​defense training. We are the only ones in the Des Moines, IA area certified and qualified to teach COBRA.

We also specialize in kid’s self-​defense, personal safety and Anti-​Bully techniques. They will learn effective moves which will aid in escape, anti-​abduction techniques, how to deal with a bully and how to spot a bad guy.

History

Established in 2014.

C.O.B.R.A.™ Self-​Defense Iowa is owned and operated by 2 certified Taekwondo Black Belts in who were looking for a program to help the youth of Des Moines, IA deal with the issue of bullying within our community.

C.O.B.R.A.™ International was established in 2004 by a former Law Enforcement and Corrections Officer with experience as a Boot Camp instructor and a owner of the United Martial Arts Academy.

Mark R.

Business Owner

Master Mark started studying Taekwondo in college and after a short break took up the art again in 2000. In 2003, while on deployment to Afghanistan, Master Ratekin had the privilege of studying with members of the Republic of Korea Marines. In October of 2012 Master Ratekin started Spirit Taekwondo which currently conducts classes in 2 locations in Des Moines along with Master Amy Ratekin.
