Hampton Inn of Des Moines Airport

This weary traveler was warmly greeted at the front desk, offered a bottle of water, invited to indulge in additional bottles of water, and checked in quickly and efficiently.
The hotel is currently undergoing a renovation, which is good, because my room is looking a bit worn and in need of a makeover.
The bed is comfy. Parking is adequate. And, generally speaking, the property appears to be well maintained and in keeping with Hilton standards.
Very close to the airport, which is nice. I’m here for two nights in a standard room with two queen beds. TV is nice. Bathroom is small and tile needs regrouting/​cleaning. The wallpaper is also pulling away from the wall, a sign of aging. But, as I wrote earlier, the hotel is being renovated and these minor issues will be corrected soon.
I recommend staying here. Especially if you’re a Hilton Honors member, like me!

If you stay at a lot of Hampton Inns steer clear of this one. Just not up to par compared to most. They gave me keys that didn’t work in my room. Hate when they do that. The channel guide in the rooms is completely wrong and the «guide» on the remote doesn’t work. I was up on the 3^rd floor. Ice machine was out of order and the vending machine says it only takes credit cards. But neither of my credit cards would cause it to register. So it was basically out of order too. Room is nothing special and the rooms /​building are old. My room had a strange gasoline smell. Just overall not as nice as most Hampton Inns. More on par with a Super 8, but at Hampton Inn prices.

In town for business. Stick with chains because you usually know what to expect; unfortunately I was very displeased with my current experience at this location.
I’ll start with the good. Checking in this afternoon I had been pleasantly greeted by heather at front desk and quickly got my room card. That’s about the extent of the good.
Room 419. Not sure if it’s the building infrastructure but the room seems to absorb the humidity and the carpets feel damp/​moist. But not so unbearable that I’d complain on that fact. Now here we are 1:30am and I am awoken by the obnoxiously loud wall fan that switches on and off every 5 minutes. Being aware of the cycle makes things worse and I call front desk. He is understanding and puts me in a new room in which his colleague drops off to my room.
He allowed me to move my things later today as I have a late check out and need to be up for a meeting in 5 hours. Dragging my feet a few doors down to room 409. My experience is two focuses. The fan is much smoother!!! But what now… I can literally hear the springs in the bedroom behind me. I don’t know what the weight of the person or if it’s just the bed is but they are a class example of a tosser.
Well I can’t say I’m happy but at this point I don’t think a third room is going to change anything, 2 stars I think is extremely lenient and only because the staff were so kind and accommodating.
Advice: make some much needed renovations

My husband left his suit but didn’t realize it until two hours after we were back on the road. The desk clerk (wish we knew her name!) found it and shipped it to him at no charge!!!
As a result, we are seeking out Hampton Inns on our current road trip from Florida to Chicago!

To celebrate, my fiancé and I ordered a suite package from this hotel. I was pleased and she was elated! The room was clean, maintained & really great all around. The room was complete with an in room jet tub, which I recommend! Also, The gal at the front desk was very nice, as was all the staff we interacted with. Thanks for a great weekend away!

Selected this hotel because of location right down the street from the airport since we had a 6:00 am flight. We didn’t check in until after 8:00 pm. Front desk clerk was friendly and helpful-​offered a wake up call without us having to request. Quick and easy check in. To our surprise we were the «Guest of the Day»! Fun! They had a little gift bag with lots of goodies and ice cream card inside! Very nice surprise!
The hotel is older but very clean. Our room was nice, clean, and everything worked. Bedding updated with comfortable mattress. We slept very well and the wake up call came as promised.
When we went downstairs at 4:30 am, the shuttle driver had just left to take another guest to the airport, but we only had to wait a couple of minutes. Nice benefit.
Can’t say anything about the breakfast as we left prior to it starting. I would definitely stay here again when traveling in the early morning. Good value too!

Your average Hampton Inn. This location seems to be more geared for single business travelers. The rooms are very small even the lobby, which doubles as the breakfast area, is very tight with small tables with only two chairs.
Traveling with a family of four we felt cramped at this location.
On the positive side, the kids enjoyed the outside pool in August. It was clean and well maintained without too many chemicals, like some hotel pools. However, he outside plastic furniture needed to be replaced, or upgraded. Several had cracks or were broken.
I did appreciate the free on lot parking and you will not find a closer location to the Des Moines airport.

The staff is all really nice. While eating breakfast on of the staff members came over to see if we needed anything else before they closed the breakfast area. The nice thing about the hotel is that is located close to restaurants, movie theater, and the airport. Not the nicest Hampton Inn that I have been too, but not bad if you are just staying one or two nights. We stayed in a king suite but there was no microwave or fridge. It’s 2014. there should be microwaves and fridges in all hotels.

When I first came to Des Moines to finalize my move, I stayed here for a couple of nights before the lease on my apartment started. The room we hd was very comfortable and the staff here was top notch. The entire establishment was very clean and quiet. There was a good amount of parking spaces, no issues with parking.
It was very close to the airport which was a big plus, just flew in and went across the street to the hotel. I would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the city.

Ms. Linda runs a very good kitchen. She was helpful and put out food for our group even though breakfast had ended for the day. Nathan at the front desk was funny and very accommodating. The only thing that was awful was the weather!

My wife and I live in Ames, only about 40 miles north of Des Moines, so it would seem that we wouldn’t generally patronize Des Moines motels or hotels. However, we do a reasonable amount of traveling and on occasion will need to stay near the Des Moines airport, for example if we arrive late at night and are too tired to make the drive home. The most recent time we stayed here was a week ago when we had an early departure and weather reports indicated a big snowstorm coming that morning; this was about the fifth or sixth time we stayed here in the last few years. On all our visits, without exception, we have found that this motel exceeds our expectations.
The rooms are comfortable and clean, and we have never been disturbed by airport noise. The beds are quite comfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a better-​than-​average breakfast included in the rate (mostly continental, but there is some hot food as well, including make-​your-​own waffles). The official start time for the breakfast is 6 am but we generally find that the cold stuff, at least, is available somewhat earlier; even if not, the motel provides «grab and go» bags containing a muffin, piece of fruit, etc. Hot beverages like coffee, tea and cocoa are always available, and in the afternoon there are cookies as well. There is free wifi in all rooms, and a business center with two computers with free internet on the second floor (an improvement from when, a couple of years ago, there was just a computer in the lobby). The motel runs a complimentary shuttle to the airport, which is available on demand; just go to the lobby and say you need the shuttle.
Another nice feature of this motel, which we took advantage of on our most recent trip, is the «park and fly» program, whereby you can park at the motel for free if you are planning to fly; this saves a lot of money on airport parking fees. (My wife estimates that on our most recent trip, just concluded yesterday, we only really wound up paying about 20 dollars for our room when airport parking fees are deducted.) When we arrived back in town yesterday evening, we called for the shuttle from the airport, which arrived promptly. It had snowed several times during the time we were gone, but it only took about ten minutes to clean off the car, after which we were invited to partake of cocoa and cookies, a nice gesture, especially since we had checked out of our room a week ago.
In summary, we like this motel a lot; it’s the first place we call when we need to go to the airport the night before, stay when we arrive late, or need to make accommodations for out-​of-​town business guests. It’s not luxurious, but when it comes to value for your dollar, it rates very high.

Really nice staff! This is an older Hampton but very well maintained. I was disappointed to see that there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. There is a bit of noise from the airport but it’s not too bad.

So I think I’m an authority on this Hampton Inn because I stayed there for — wait for it — a total of 2 months for work.
I know — WHAT? I also stayed in three different rooms.
They could have given me a better price for the amount of time I was there (at least the first time — this was 3 separate trips), but I was green about traveling for work back then and didn’t think to ask.
Anyhow, for what it was, it was decent. The rooms were always clean, the thermostat worked properly and it was literally RIGHT across from the airport (which was great the one time my car broke down). The location was perfect. It was also right next to a Kroger’s if I remember correctly.
The 2^nd room they gave me did not have a shower curtain. I called 3 – 4 times… didn’t get one till I took a shower without it and when I got there that night one appeared. Sorry, guys, I had to go to work.
The staff was also very nice to me. I’m a Southern California gal born and raised and I had zero understanding of «weather.» Meaning — I had no idea how to dig my car out of the snow, that I needed to start my car and THEN eat breakfast, or that the huge trucks spewing stuff out were either salting or sanding the roads. They treated me like one of their own and helped me get through their winter, and I appreciated that. +1 star for their hospitality.

Not exactly what I expected from Hilton but this is close to the airport which is a plus. First, I arrived at around 10:30 PM since construction of I-​80 was from East Chicago/​Gary to Joilet. Insane traffic which was backed-​up and had to wait 3-​hours. Okay, back to the hotel which gets to my major point. The side entrance doors were all open and not locked. After around 10PM, these doors should require a room key to enter. I don’t know why there are signs next to the door to use room key but it’s open anyways. Plus, I am on the first floor which is just at the side exit. I checked the door and it wasn’t locked. Business center just prints out stuff which was okay. Breakfast was decent and had hot food as well. I have to say that the room layout was horrible. Tightest little room and reminded me of La Quinta in Independence, OH. Big swivel chairs that just bumps everywhere in the bed and desk. No fridge or microwave. Little space between bed and the TV. Nothing too memorable here. I am glad that I made reservations for the Hilton Garden Inn– West Des Moines for the following days to come.

Convenience is the redeeming feature at this hotel. You are literally across the street from the airport (although you need to drive about 5 minutes to get there). Not much else to stay about this Hampton Inn — standard fare for this chain.

Decent hotel with friendly and attentive staff. Great location across from Des Moines International Airport and close to many food choices. Cookies at night and a pretty wide selection at breakfast. A go to when I don’t want to go all the way to Johnston or West Des Moines for the Garden Inn locations.

We were all supposed to return to the Bay Area from Iowa on Christmas Day, but the threat of the recent Midwest Blizzard altered our plans. We delayed a day and decided to improve our chances by flying back through Atlanta instead of Minneapolis. That turned out to be OK as my son got some extra snow sledding time, Gayle got to attend Christmas Eve Mass, and the whole family was treated to very white Christmas and a nice breakfast together the next morning.
By mid afternoon, it was still snowing and the road reports still advised against travel. At the same time, we also thought it was best if we get down to Des Moines during daylight and stay at a hotel, before our plane was to leave at 6:45 the next morning. This would allow my elderly parents to retrieve their car when the weather and an associated return journey would be safer. The only question was how most of the DSM flights were running on time when most of the Central Iowa roads were red-​lined on the Iowa DOT Site.
The Hampton Inn turned out to be a welcome port in the storm. The price was certainly right ($ 85 including tax and AAA Discount), the Park and Fly convenience for my parents car was convenient, Front Desk service was friendly and helpful, the amenities (lobby computers, free wi-​fi in the room, evening snacks and breakfast in the lounge) were much appreciated, and the shuttle got us to DSM the next morning in minutes. The Hampton Inn also appears to be a flight crew hotel of choice. Our only concern was the room, which was a bit small and stuffy. But overall, for what and where it is, this hotel was a great choice.
p. s. — We started our long travel day with it still snowing and arrived home safely to rain!

The hotel itself is nice and the location is great but the staff is painfully under staffed. The staff first tried to give us a room that was right next to the lobby. If the hotel was booked that would’ve been understandable, as emtpy as it is that wasn’t acceptable. They then moved us to a room that someone else was in. Finally the third time was the charm, they got us in a room that in a heavy traffic area and that someone else wasn’t staying in. Word of warning, don’t use the secure wifi network to access the Internet because it work.

I stayed here last weekend for a wedding that was in town. I LOVE Hampton Inns because they give you all of the business traveller’s perks (free internet & parking, nice breakfasts, etc) without a lot of added costs. This Hampton was no exception, the rooms were nice and the beds were heavenly. They have one computer in the lobby for you to use but I never had to wait.
Because the hotel was seriously only a few steps away from the airport I was a bit worried about the noise level. Luckily the Des Moines airport is teeny tiny and I only heard a couple of planes fly overhead while I was getting ready for bed. They offer a shuttle to the airport that runs ²⁴⁄₇ on demand and the driver was very friendly.
They offer a government or AAA discount which makes it even more affordable. If I ever come back to Des Moines I’d stay here again!
