Not at all what I expected in a soul food restaurant. The oxtails lacked seasoning but were tender. The Mac ‘n cheese was dry and not cheesy at all, tasted like plain noodles. The greens were vinegary & gritty. Yams weren’t bad, though not sweet & syrupy like I like. The portions are huge… Now I know why… They’re trying their best to get rid of it! Very disappointed.

Smothered chicken makes you want to slap somebody! Very good pork chop & sides… especially the greens! Friendly, fast service. Will definitely be back.

Wasted money! Ordered smothered pork chops, hard fried pork chops covered with lumpy gravy. This was during lunch so not sure why they had time to harden up. Too salty vegetables. Server forgot to include cornbread which I did not discover until I got home with the order. If there was a half star I would have use that. Stick with Lisa’s on Redbird.

Really good home cooked food! Super friendly staff. Not the Taj Mahal, but it’s part of the experience. Had never found anyone that cooked squash like my Grandma! Found it! Oxtails are a must!

The food was good considering I have bias tastebuds because I am originally from Louisiana and it’s hard to beat the flavor of souls food there. I ordered the ribs(the flavor was food but they could have been more tender — ribs should fall off of the bone), yams(very good), broccoli and cheese rice(good) and the fried cornbread(was slightly hard). Due to the flavor I gave them an overall 3 rating. I may go again and try something different.

This place has some of the best soul food we’ve ever had. The portions are huge and it’s as close to home cooking as you can get. The prices are very reasonable too, especially for the portions. My wife and I had smothered pork chops, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy and greens. My wife LOVED the greens and we both loved all of the food. We also had the italian cream cake and coconut cake. Amazing! It was quite the feast. So good, I decided to do a Unilocal review for them and saw that they weren’t on here, so I am adding them. It’s a family run business which I always like to support over the big chains. They also deliver.
