Holiday Inn Express & Suites Destin E – Commons Mall Area

Beds feel old, pillows are beat up, woke up the next day like i just ran a marathon. The breakfast (i was there at 6:30 — 7:00am) was dry biscuits, no one refilled the bacon, the canned sausage gravy had a film on it, the fake eggs were watery, the tables were dirty, i didnt see the staff do anything but walk around talking to each other not once checking the food or sanitary conditions. The internet is slower than original dial up. Dont plan on doing any work on the internet here. And you can hear everything in the hallway and even some conversations coming from the rooms on either side. Hotel staff isnt the friendliest out of the IHG brands. But overall besides those things, the rooms are ok. Plenty of power outlets for electronics, good hot water and water pressure, AC works good, you are in walking distance to alot of restaurants and stores… um, ok thats it.

This was a fantastic choice for our stay in Destin. Breakfast was free and was hot every time we got down there with plenty of choices. We stayed 5 days with this hotel and the housekeeping staff did a wonderful job not only with our room but the hotel in general. You can walk to the beach within about 5 minutes, and to many other stores and restaurants. The staff is great and the location excellent. We will be looking to stay here again on out next trip there!

This is a great hotel if you want perfect access to everything in Destin. The free breakfast was fresh, and we had plenty of items to choose from. It’s close to Destin Commons and 2 blocks from beach? The pool was small but clean. Customer service was great and fully accommodating.
We would stay here again.

Best thing about this hotel is the front desk staff and location. When I walked into my room they had the AC on 60 and it was 40 outside. I think they were trying to cover up the musty smell. The furniture isn’t bad but something about the pop corn ceiling, the carpet and the shower that makes this seem like putting lipstick on a pig. The tub is so narrow it’s difficult to stand inside of it — u can’t tell until u get in it. My feet hurt from trying to negotiate a position. I can’t imagine having size 13s and showering in there. Oh and watch out for the protruding bed frame — I hit my ankle, thought I broke it but it was just badly bruised … Yaay. Wte.

This was a pretty modern HI. They had friendly staff. I especially want to call out the friendly room cleaning crew which is undervalued, they were personable as we passed and were playful with each other. Great work! The pool was smaller but decent and only ~3 blocks from the ocean so the pool is not a must. Only issues we had were 1. rude people letting their kids squeal and stomp down the halls at all hours and not enough sound proofing b/​w the rooms and hall and 2. The 1 elevator took a long time to come if you needed it. Thankfully, only 3 floors high so stairs it is. There were no cots available. Oh yes, and good fans in the bathroom, yeah for lower humidity!!!

The back door doesn’t lock, meaning no room key is required for entry at 11:00 at night. I told the front desk staff about it immediately upon realizing same, and they could not have cared less. So if you’re in the hallway at night, cross your fingers and hope no one who’s not supposed to be is in the hall with you.
Beyond that, $ 189 a night is crazy high for the room quality and the pitiful pool and amenities. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere (ANYWHERE) else — there are comparably priced decent places all over town.

Super clean, and the room was huge. The king bed was great too.
The only thing, it was to cold in the corridor. But for the rest, perfect: great location, super nice staff and very comfortable in general. The only disadvantage, maybe the breakfast is small (not a lot of variety). But more than enough if you are not looking for something really fancy. Great place, I will repeat next time in Destin, since it wasn’t really expensive.

This hotel has a very accommodating staff and is wonderfully located. I was visiting Eglin AFB from time to time and it is an easy drive across the bridge. A very short walk to the beach, Starbucks, Yofro and lots of other shops made it very plesant.
One evening the room tenants next door became noisy. Management put a quick end to it.

Great hotel which is super affordable given the location. They are two blocks from the beach and walking distance to some amazing shops.
Aside from decent rooms, the staff is awesome. I recently traveled her for an anniversary and the manger was so nice she put flowers and cupcakes in the room for me. If I go back to Destin, this will be the first place I look to stay!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for 19 nights in August of 2011. Since I was there so long I will try and provide a pretty extensive review.
PRO’s: Location– Right in the middle of it all. You are two blocks from the beach (exactly a 5 min easy walk). There is a public access with a shower and bathrooms right at the entrance to the beach. Very close to a ton of places to eat, grocery shop, shop, buy liquor, anything you need!
Clean Rooms: The rooms were very clean and well kept. There is nothing special about the room but I stayed in a King Suite and it was a decent size but not large for a suite. The suite pretty much just adds a couch to the room. The room did have a refridgerator and microwave. The bathroom was clean and a decent size. I had no problems with moldy smells, dirty room, or any probems with the AC. Overall the room was decent even though a bit dated.
Friendly Staff– Never had any issues with the staff. Martha was extremely nice and helpful during check in and check out.
Breakfast– FREE, this was the menu for the entire trip, pretty decent; Eggs of some kind, bacon or sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancake maker, muffins and breads, bananas, cerial, cinnamon buns, coffee, milk, juices!
CON’s:
NO WiFi internet. You must hardline in at the desk to get internet. In todays world there is absolutely no reason for a hotel to not offer WiFi.
No laundry facilities for guest use.
The hotel had a small pool that was well kept but there were never towels available for the pool.
The rooms while decent were aged. Old TV’s that were fairly small.
The ice machines were constantly out on the third floor.
One of the biggest issues for me was the fact that the representative behind the check in counter was not there. There was a sign placed at the front that would say «out running errands» or «in the back». It was difficult to get in touch with someone if you needed them.
Overall great stay. I would certainly stay here again for any trips to destin at a reasonable price!!!

I got this hotel anonymously through Hotwire and was scared to death that it would be a true roach motel. I was pleasantly suprised that I had won my room at the price I got it and it was Holiday Inn. This hotel is nice and everyone at the front desk were the sweetest folks. The breakfast was okay but I will never complain as it was FREE. I had access to Internet just not WiFi and thats cool too. I will definitely stay at this hotel again!

My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on an anniversary trip. I found the location to be very convenient. It was close to the shops, restaurants, and gas stations. The amenities are sufficient if you are going to spend most of your time outside. It was decently priced and economical.
Several downsides of this location is a lack of Wi-​Fi. However they provide you with an ethernet cord in the room. This is inconvenient for those that like surfing the web in bed or have Wi-​Fi only devices.
Furthermore, my wife and I were a bit disappointed with their breakfast. They serve breakfast 6:30 to 9:30, but when we arrived at about 8:45 the food was not replenished. Also, I did not find a fitness facility in the hotel which was advertised in their website .
I would more than likely not return to this hotel in a future trip. The lack of Wi-​Fi and a fitness facility was the deal breaker. If you can do without these amenities, then I would suggest this hotel for you.

The Holiday Inn Express in Destin was our go-​to place for a couple of years. Once the Candlewood Suites went in (also part of the Priority Club group), we moved our stays over to them.
But the folks at Holiday Inn Express always treated us well, took good care of us, and never botched a reservation during the two years that we stayed with them.
I would highly recommend this hotel if you want to be near the main Destin beach, near Destin Commons, and near Okaloosa Island.
