St Charles Parish Library

This library in Destrehan, and a few of the other libraries in St. Charles Parish have workers who are not friendly to children with developmental delay. The library workers get annoyed and tend to roll their eyes at both the parents and child, when a child with a developmental delay is unable to understand the social aspect in how to function or behave normally in society. They look at the parents with a rude annoying look as if the parents are not disciplining their child enough. Some library workers in St. Charles Parish have asked the children with delay to leave the activity event room in that library, since the child doesn’t function like a normal quiet child sitting still at a library. This library does not offer any type of sensory events or events that accommodate children with developmental delay. I hate seeing the library workers give a hard time to both the parents and children with delay. Children with delay need extra time and patience from others to help them. Having workers roll their eyes at the children and parents does not help. If the workers get annoyed at children being themselves, then they should find another job that has nothing to deal with children. I hate seeing librarians who frown at children being themselves. Some librarians get annoyed when a child talks loud, when it really isn’t that loud, and that librarian expects the child to whisper. There is no compassion from some of the library workers in St. Charles Parish to children who grow up with delayed milestones.

The Destrehan public library is woohoo, as good as it gets. There is a nice selection of books, magazines, and C.D.‘s — movies, documentaries, etc. The staff is very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. Someone is always there to check out and check in materials. Computers are available for public use. The atmosphere is very welcoming.

Awesome library for Destrehan.
I couldn’t find it at first but it’s really close to interstate.
Great selection of books and meeting rooms.
Staff very friendly and responsive.
