History
Established in 1989.
People who work with children need affordable stuff and good ideas.
Hence, Arts & Scraps, a nonprofit invented to help.
We support hands-on learning and encourage creative thinking so each child can develop their original ideas and express them. We emphasize process, not the end product.
Stuff:
We visit 190 businesses, collecting 28 tons of interesting and safe scraps, errors and obsolete «stuff» for a store affordable to all, selling materials at less than our cost.
Ideas:
— Kits for individuals and groups
— Student Workshops provide hands on learning and shopping to preschool through middle school
— Adult training involves teachers/group leaders in hands-on learning and creativity
— Publications reinforce all of the above
Arts & Scraps is possible with 10,000 volunteer hours annually. Earned income is supplemented with grants from private foundations and donations from individuals/organizations/businesses.
