History
Established in 2013.
Constructed in the early 1880’s, this historic building orginally housed a saloon operating under multiple owners for the first 20 – 30 years of its existence. As the years passed and the name of the street changed from Croghan to Monroe St, an auto upholstry shop, a local café and an authentic barber shop all called 419 Monroe St home. After some careful restoration and slight modernization, we feel we brought the building back full circle to its original purpose and are proud to give you The Firebird Tavern.
Meet the Business Owner
Owen B and Tony P.
Business Owner
Anthony Piraino and Owen Burke own and operate Firebird Tavern, an upscale American tavern located in Greektown, Detroit. Since opening in August 2013, Owen and Tony have built Firebird Tavern into a dining and drinking destination for people who live, work and play in downtown Detroit.
The duo has long believed in the Motor City. Prior to Firebird Tavern, Tony and Owen owned and operated Pulse Lounge, located just outside of the Greektown district. Opened in 2004, it was a successful lounge for eight years, until the building was purchased and eventually removed. Not to be deterred, they re-invested, completely renovating and restoring a 130-year-old building in the heart of Greektown to open Firebird Tavern, filling a gap in upscale tavern fare among downtown dining venues.
