Commerce Way Smog & Service

This was the first time I relied solely on my fellow Unilocalers. I’m happy to report that I am in complete agreement. I, also, was very frustrated with the absence of logic in DMV’s Theory of Revenue Displacement. It can’t be easy to provide a service that people despise. But, Ty makes it look easy. That’s the mark of excellence, as far as I’m concerned. Singular excellence. If you need a smog check, Ty is the guy. Quick and easy.

Came in to see Ty (after being treated like dog doo by another local shop), and boy was I happy with my service. Not only did he squeeze me in at last minute with a million other things to do, but he was quick, genuine, and fair.

Let me start by saying that I think smog inspections are a ridiculous scam, foisted on the people by the ultra-​corrupt California Air Resources Board. In addition to the $ 60 to $ 80 you spend on an inspection, not to mention the super inflated vehicle registration fees you already pay DMV, you’re obligated to waste AT LEAST 2 hours of your time getting this stupid chore done. Since there’s not much you can do about it, my goal is to find a smog shop staffed with competent people who charge a reasonable price and get you in and out as quickly as possible, with as little obstruction and resistance to getting me back on with my life as humanly possible.
That being said…
I recently moved to the area, and went here for a smog check on the recommendation of my Dad. Dad’s a mechanic, and brings his stuff here when he needs smogs done, and spoke very highly of them. Called and talked to the owner, Ty. He was very friendly, and accommodated me by squeezing me in at the end of his work day, despite having 2 or 3 other cars already lined up. Poor guy probably wound up staying late, because I needed to get my smog done ASAP due to having put it off repeatedly. I was quickly checked in, the smog was done very quickly. Compared to my last half-​dozen smogs I’ve had done, this smog took about half the time. No pain, no fuss, no hassle. I want to say the price was $ 58, plus $ 8 for the certificate, but don’t quote me on that. Their retest policy was that retests are %50 off. Thanks Ty! I’ll be visiting your shop the next time this annoying chore comes up again.
