Upper Room Christian School

Always a beautiful, spirit-​filled time at Upper Room Christian World Center.
There are two services on Sundays, 9 and 11am. When I do attend, I prefer the 9am service. I always prefer earlier service.
I especially love the praise and worship sessions here! Like most full gospel Churches, even if you don’t know some (or all lol) of the lyrics to the songs, there are big screens with them so you can follow and sing to your heart’s content. They have a lovely choir and this Sunday’s song worship leaders were four young adults with amazing vocals. Sometimes I get carried away and dance a bit too much but hey… when the spirt moves right.
I follow this Church on social media as well. I appreciate that even though I’m unable to attend a concert or a session they always release videos and other information so I’m updated. The inspirational messages are a huge help as well.
Whenever I’m home I and I have a ride you can find me here on Sundays.

If you can’t afford The Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall go here, Seriously!
They put on the most over the top professional Christmas show outside of Radio City! We go every year and also take friends. I took someone once who was really depressed about a divorce and it cheered them up! Their choir is amazing! It is hard to believe you are in a church! It is so professional it might as well be Broadway!
I have a friend who goes to this church. She is considered to be an alternative type.
That is how I first found the church.
My friend says they have always showed her unconditional love. She has been rejected by many churches but they show her nothing but love here. I have met Pastor Tony the senior pastor. He is a really sweet person. It seems he really cares about the people there. Some of the city pastors are so harsh. They don’t want to be bothered with people because they are building THEIR kingdom. Pastor Tony doesn’t seem to be that way! They call him Bishop now I think that just means senior Pastor.
But The Upper Room has a very New York vibe. Though LI residents go there many people actually go in from the city on a regualr basis .I went for a few services too. Pastor Tony has a great big heart and it comes across in his preaching. My friend says that he has been through a lot that people put him through a lot. But he still continues to love.
If you are looking for a home church in LI that is important to know.
I want to share a story. I know a pastor in the city. I shared with this unnamed pastor a situation I needed prayer for because he knew those involved. He is a well known pastor in the city. But I was not a member of his church at the time. This pastor got on the phone to tell his version of things to people who were not even Christians and to make matters worse those people taped the phone call without his knowledge. The events he spoke of were not even true. They had some truth in them like any lie but they were not true.
Another pastor I know who respected him said he thinks he did that because he was mad at me for not being a member of his church. So in my church reviews I mention the trustworthiness of the pastor because I know from first hand experience that a pastor has to be trustworthy. Many Christians try to get away with stuff by saying you have to forgive and then never address the issue. I forgive that pastor but obviously it would be foolish to trust him.
I do not believe Pastor Tony has that kind of meanness in him. My friend says he is loving and he was when I met him.
There is a full staff of pastors at the church to ensure everyone’s needs are met. And they are all listed at the web site. The senior pastor is not trying to be a super star. At some churches they have a full staff but on the web site they only list the senior pastor. Not here this is a good sign.
They have every kind of volunteer and social opportunity you can possibly think of and then some you can’t. You will never get bored here! There are too many to mention! So here is the link.
There is also a school. It is pre K through 12^th grade.
They are supposed to have a good counseling department too.
The Upper Room is known to be cutting edge and unconventional even experimental. They have Tuesday night prayer meeting and prayer requests are accepted on line.
I do not know enough about their doctrine to say but there is nothing on the site to make me worry.
The Upper Room has been around for 3 decades. So it is stable. Some of the area churches make me wonder since they have super star pastors when those pastors die will the church still be there? I think The Upper Room will stay around since it is not centered around a super star preacher but around God. I only hesitate to give it 5 stars only because I do not know enough about their beliefs. But from what I do know everything is wonderful! They have on their web site that there is a new play called Revelation and they have a video posted to advertise it. It looks good, go check it out! I probably will. I have heard and experienced nothing but good things at and from the Upper Room.
