Established in 1923.

My Grandfather was a pretty funny guy. The name Yale is a reference to Yale University. He was an immigrant with no formal education, so he probably thought it was hysterical.

He was the first of 5 brothers to settle in America, when they had enough money another relative would immigrate. They actually worked to assist the last brother, my Uncle Jack, through medical school. Grandpa really was a good man

In 197?, my Father started running the company. In 1984, his landlord informed him the building was sold, and he had to vacate after 30 years. We were on Portland street previously. On the coldest day of 1984, I measured the building on Freeport with him, and we moved later that year

I am the sole survivor since 2003, but have considerable help from a ton of very good, committed people

In 2015, we became a chain moving to Framingham off RTE 9 at 215 Worcester St. I love the old brick building building of Dorchester, but it was much easier working with a regular building

We purchased a complete set of Jenn-​Air appliances from Yale Dorchester a couple of years ago. This review is for the service we received last week for our microwave. The service engineer was Derek M. It was his second visit to our home (1st one was for servicing the dishwasher). Once again, Derek went above and beyond our expectations. He used his creativity and genius to open the microwave cover which was obstructed by our cabinets. He was so careful in putting everything back to how it was. He is a smart technician who leaves us without worry and overly satisfied with Yale Appliance Service.

We recently renovated our kitchen and bought all our appliances at Yale based on their selection and knowledgeable sales people. After installation, we found a few minor issues (nothing major and not Yale’s fault). We contacted Yale and Derek came to our home, identified the issue, ordered the necessary parts, and came back to install them. Like everyone we worked with at Yale, Derek was professional, pleasant to work with, and successfully solved our problem. Thanks!

Salesman messed up dishwasher replacement at first, sold and sent out a unit that would not fit … but (a few weeks later) managed to get it right. Installers Jeff and Jared were professional and successful in their efforts.

It has now been about 7 months post-​installation, and Yale continues to impress me. I’ve had several issues with my dishwasher (not Yale’s fault, just got a bad one I guess). They replaced
It once, no hassle no charge. Had one other issue with new one! So frustrating when you have a house full of kids and guests and cousins! So I texted Steve, and 18 hours later (no joke), Tim was at my house. Regional manager for service. Yep, they sent the regional manager. He was at my house within 24 hours. And he knows his stuff big time. Fixed my issue. Identified a small insulation issue in the adjacent wall also, which I remedied. I couldn’t be home when Tim came so my wife was. He called me afterwards to brief me, and to «apologize» because it took him 3 hours after he left my house to call me and give me a full briefing. Seriously — he actually apologized because 3 hours to return my phone call was «too long». I think Yale has been out four times total on minor issues. Fixed me up every time.
If I had bought my appliances online, I would have had a huge pain in the butt to handle what Yale handled with pleasure for me for free. I’ll basically reaffirm the same thing I said before — if you are even considering buying appliances online or from someone else to «save a few hundred bucks» or avoid the sales tax, it’s not worth it!!! Yale is worth every penny.

When it rains, it pours and thank goodness for Yale.
For the second time in a month we have had to replace a washer/​dryer. Last month we replaced our household washer dryer with a compact stack. Excellent installation service.
Recently, a second washer dryer in our house broke and needed to be replaced. This one could be a less feature rich model — it was going to the basement. So, initially I thought I would save some money and order it online from Sears — they «tried, but couldn’t deliver» to our home in Boston because there was no on street parking. After several attempts to speak with the actual delivery folks to describe the situation that there would never be a parking space for a big truck in Boston, I gave up and called Bill Hanley at Yale.
He was great — figured out what we needed, found a w/​d pair that had been returned and arranged for rapid delivery right after the holidays. Boris, Ricky and TJ know how to deliver to a city house… they checked out the stairs, figured out they needed to go around to the back alley, and lugged in the new and hauled out the old in less than an hour. Again — great experience. Thanks guys.

Even though I got bad news, I was very satisfied with Derek and Yale appliance repair. I called with a broken dishwasher and they offered me next day (Friday) service but after some discussion we agreed that Monday would be better. I requested end of the day 3 to 5, and got the time slot. Derek arrived in the early side of the time slot, and appeared knowledgeable prepared. He evaluated the dishwasher, pointed out several problems, and suggested it was beyond repair. Because the dishwasher is 14 years old, and he examination was thorough I was comfortable with his recommendation. He told me that I could get a credit for part of the service call, and wrote down the number for me. I would call them again.

Just had efficient, knowledgable service on my 19 year old refrigerator in Cambridge. I’m impressed the service person didn’t try to just sell me a new fridge. For a reasonable fee my old one is fixed for now. With such good service they’ve hooked me as a buying customer in the future.

Bought appliances for our house in Marshfield and the side by side door style fridge stopped producing ice. Yale gave us a window of time and the service tech, James Murphy, arrived right in the middle of that window, calling saying he’d be there in 20 to give a heads up. He was professional and kind, even gave some good advice about my in-​laws ice machine. All of the work was done quietly and quickly. James was also incredibly personable. Having people on your staff like James is one of the main reasons my family will continue to choose Yale Appliance and Lighting.

We bought a washer/​dryer from Yale and are very satisfied. Initially, the price was a lot higher than the «big box» stores, but the sales guy negotiated down to a rate that was close — and I’m willing to pay more for a local business that’s highly rated, and that doesn’t farm-​out delivery to the lowest cost (sketchy) delivery company.
We went to the showroom to see the models. A receptionist is located right inside the 2nd floor door, to help pair you with the right folks, if needed. But, there was no pressure. And, considering the place isn’t the size of a football field, we were able to find what we needed on our own.
When we were ready to buy, we did the whole transaction over the phone. Andrew, the sales guy, was responsive, and shared a rebate form that I never would have known about. He initially advised against LG because of long lead-​times for parts, if they break. Instead, he suggested we check out the Speed Queen, which has bullet-​proof reliability. However, they’re a lot more expensive and different features than we needed for our place. In the end, we went with an LG set.
Delivery was quick, the team was professional, and they setup the machines properly, so we don’t have wobble (like the old machines.) I believe that Yale’s delivery team is more-​experienced than big-​box contractors, so the overall outcome is better, and worth the little extra we paid.
Minus 1 star because Andrew got a bit frustrated on the phone when I was pushing for a better price. But, in the end, we came to a good price!

I recently bought a cooktop from Yale Appliance. They worked hard to ensure the unit would fit in my existing granite countertop and cabinet space. The installation was seamless and I must compliment Jeremy and Tim, who were courteous, smart, hard-​working and a pleasure to have here. They did a very careful job and left everything in clean order.
I’m very happy with the results — we’re literally «cooking with gas» here!

We are renovating a loft and needed to purchase every single appliance — 9 total plus their accessories. John, Ivan and Antoine did the delivery, and handled lobby steps, a tight elevator, etc. with ease, professionalism, personality and courtesy. I will definitely be requesting them by name when doing business again with Yale.

only downside was that it was a long lead time for the initial appointment and then a long lead time for the parts to come in.
despite that, the service tech jim murphy was phenomenal. he really knew the equipment inside and out, was quick and clean, was fun to shoot the shit with, and both times he was over he called ahead when he was 20 minutes out to give me a heads up which i REALLY appreciate.
yale might take a little longer to get a guy out (or might not… i didn’t really shop around…), but it’s an overall good experience from the girls at the call center that schedule your appointment (2 hour window which is reasonable), to the cool professional service tech, to the bottom line getting the job done.

I remodeled my kitchen and purchased Bosch appliances — an electric induction range, French door refrigerator and microwave. Yale is terrific — I love that they have so many models on display — an online photo of such a big purchase just wouldn’t work for me. For example, I’m short and needed to ensure I could reach the top shelf in the refrigerator! I also found that appliances I thought I loved online, I didn’t like at all when I saw them in person — the Samsung range with the double oven inside looked great on the Net but seeing it, I realized I’d often need to take out the divider shelf to use the whole oven, then would have no place to put it. For the few times a year I’d use two ovens, it just wasn’t worth the aggravation.
From beginning to end Yale has been a pleasure to work with and so accommodating — I had to change my delivery date within a short timeframe, no problem at all. Then I later ordered pendant lights and when they arrived, Yale called to say they could add it to my delivery, thus saving me a trip to pick them up – a couple of hours saved and no traffic aggravations make a big difference.
The appliances were delivered early this morning (7:10 am!) by Edy and Henry in Truck 5. This is the smoothest delivery I’ve ever experienced — Edy and Henry were early, fast, efficient, polite, and super careful.
I’ll take Yale over the big box stores and the unpredictable hassles of online delivery every time!

We purchased our new oven /​microwave combo from the new Framingham location. It is a phenomenal experience to buy and install with Yale. Their sales systems to create the order and organize the scheduling is great. The coordination with delivery is outstanding. The installers are prepared with materials and tools and the experience to get the job done. The installers exude confidence and understanding of the products. Great selection, friendly service. We were looking to buy that day and found something for our bathroom. Our purchase was simple – find a light, light in stock, walk out with light. For fixtures, they have things in all price ranges and I liked everything from the cheap to the expensive. They also have free food on the weekends (cookies, gluten free fudge and orzo salad)…yum! Friendly service and lots of parking.

I still have an overpriced POS Mìele oven that doesn’t work. Yale sent a guy to fix it 3 weeks ago, all he said was «it’s too new I don’t have instructions to take the top off, bye» now they say waiting on parts… and waiting and waiting… you get the picture. Trying to get ahold of the Navy maybe they can use it for an anchor. No communication from Yale, GO ELSEWHERE !!!
Ok, ok I was pissed off when I wrote this review, but they did forget about me. Once this hit the web they were right on it. Both the Mìele guy and the Yale guy showed up the next day and after determining that they needed parts returned two days later for the final fix. It seems there is a communication breakdown between the sales guy and the customer service guy. It was a learning experience for all.

Previously I have had good experience with Yale, but with my recent kitchen renovation it has been one screw up after another. The sales people were only interested in selling us the most expensive appliances (a wine fridge that cost as much as my refrigerator) specific details about the appliances were not discussed and there were multiple delivery delays that were not communicated. Fighting your way through their phone interface is another major hassle.
I’m sorry Yale, but with the prices you charge it shouldn’t be this hard or take this much time.
