Midwestern University

I am a clinical psychology student here. I love the program, but only love some of the professors. The training director is a gem, as she does her job well and makes sure every student gets placed in practicums and internships. My mentor and dissertation chair is a brilliant woman and has published numerous works. The seasoned professors are wonderful. Some of the newly hired professors are terrible and think they are above the students. Some students are the same age or OLDER than them. I understand that professors should be respected, but students pay their salaries and are the reason they have jobs, and should be treated as the professionals that we are.
That being said, the program is APA accredited which opens a lot of doors in terms of employability… BUT, they keep accepting more and more students each year. I think they should continue to stick to smaller cohort sizes. This, among other things, distinguished this program from others for me. I also love that it is situated in a very nice and safe suburb of Chicago. Since I commute, it is easy to get to and there is plenty of free parking!
Overall, this program trains you very well. I am confident in my skills as a therapist-​in-​training and the education and experience I am getting here far surpass that of any other program in the Chicagoland area, in my opinion. The school and program have a wonderful reputation, as well. I’m glad I chose to receive my education here.

This is a great campus with nature blend with technology. I came from a really big camps (UCLA — go Bruins!) so I was not used to attending school at such a small campus but it is actually really nice because you can walk anywhere within 5 minutes (except when you have to walk to the Wellness Center).
The library is a great high tech center with lots of study places and on the first floor next to the library, there is a 24 hour study room. I was a bit bummed to find out the library isn’t open 24 hours.
The gym is pretty neat and it is almost never crowded. I wish we had a pool on campus.
The commons (cafeteria) has lots of yummy dishes that rotates every day so you can never get tired or sick of the food. It is CASH only though so if you plan on eating often, I would suggest getting a meal plan with the school.
Parking can be pretty tough when all the students are on campus at once or trying to get out all at once… since there’s only 1 way in/​out.

I feel that when you go and check into a place two hundred times, you would have to have at least one review. TODAY’S THE DAY! Especially when one has finals. What’s the best thing to do when you have the hardest final? You Unilocal about it.

This review is based off my first quarter of being a PA student at this university. Overall, I am very pleased that I picked this over other schools that also accepted me. I have no regrets in picking Midwestern and am thankful everyday that I chose Midwestern over other schools.
For those wondering about security, you have to swipe your ID every time you come on campus and entering any building, so there’s no worrying about randoms getting on campus.
The professors truly care about the students. After struggling a bit in one of my classes, one of the professors actually met with me to discuss the material and go over the things I was struggling with. It was fantastic. I also learned that 2 of my professors have written books that were used for my class. They are all highly educated and passionate about what they teach.
I can’t speak for the food or housing, since I live off campus and bring my lunch to school every day.
Overall, I would definitely recommend MWU for anyone interested in the healthcare field (of the programs in which they offer).

I love this school, and this is super biased because I’m in the pharmacy program, but speaking on behalf of CCP, this place is great!
I love where it’s situated in beautiful Downers Grove, the security is a bit much but it’s nice to know we’re safe and it’s not like other schools with high people traffic where you have bums randomly asking you for change, etc. (I went to undergrad in Chicago) It’s clean and has a beautiful setting near a woodsy area, love it!
The teachers are awesome, I’ve met some great people who are at the top of their field and are not only there to teach but honestly make sure you succeed. They provide you with the knowledge you need but also people skills and I’ve realized I’ve learned so much just in my first year about myself and what I need to do to improve in order to be the ideal health professional.
I think Midwestern is an excellent school and if you’re contemplating on going here, you should simply visit to see what they have to offer. I’m sure you will fall in love with it as much as I have :)

Professors actually care about the students. TA’s aren’t there to teach the material but are in charge of the logistics of the class like updating blackboard and stuff.
Textbooks are not necessary because the note packets have everything you need for about $ 25 each.
Free parking for students. (YAY)
High security (maybe TOO much).
The on-​campus housing here is very convenient and nice. I share a bathroom with ONE other person and a room to myself. Although the kitchen and laundry room is shared by the entire floor.
The program is alright so far (I’m only in my first quarter here so maybe I’ll update this review much later). People are friendly :)

This is an outstanding school to attend for those that wish to pursue a career in the medical field. Now I have to disagree with a w. b/​c Midwestern is a medical school. It offers a DO program (doctor of osteopathic medicine), and you still practice in a hospital or clinic just as any other physician. That being said, a plethora of other programs are also offered: pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, masters in biomedical science, and clinical psychology. The facilities are great; however the new athletic hall is still in need of much improvement. It was built a bit too small b/​c not all the excersie equipment fits in the room, and it’s a bit uncomfortable and odd to see students running on treadmills in the hallway. The faculty, on the other hand, are wonderful. The professors make it a point to be available to students b/​c they want to ensure each student is successful. The campus itself is beautiful, situated near Oakbrook (which is great if you like to take shopping breaks), and is located just 20min from the Chicago loop. This is definitely a great place to get a top-​notch education.

An excellent school for anybody looking into the medical field. Its not a medical school, but they offer various other degrees — like pharmacy, physicians assistant, and DO. The facilities here are very well kept and the profesors are really great. Its a wonderful place to get an education at.
