Downey Family Eye Care

So after starting a new job and now sitting in front of a computer as opposed to working a sales floor, it became clear that I needed glasses. So I came in to Downey Family eye care. I am big on community businesses. I enjoyed the pleasant staff. My first point of contact was Roberta. She was very pleasant and you can see that she was a dedicated employee. And Dr. Trinh was very nice and pleasant. Needless to say I had no problems. I even went back 8 months later and looked into contacts. I was happy to have found my Optometrist.
So why the 4 stars? Well… My son had gone to another optometrist with his mother. They had an OK experience. I would have rather tried another place. But she decided to stick there and get glasses through them. Now my son is only 6, but takes care of his glasses very well. Always puts them in his case and is constantly cleaning them. Well 3 months later he is at school and they fall from his desk to the floor breaking the frame in half. Now we are obviously upset, so we go in and have them replaced. Well I decide that my son will need a 2^nd pair in case this ever happens again.
So I decide to call my Optometrist and use them to get my sons 2^nd set. So I call to ask some questions because this other place had used up my insurance and I was greeted by a new voice or someone I did not recognize. It wasn’t Roberta and it was not Susan the normal people I’ve spoken to in the past. So I explain my situation and clearly say that I would like to purchase glasses at full cost. But since I already have the prescription from the last visit he had 3 months ago can I just order instead of doing an exam. I gave her a specific brand and style. The employee had said they don’t carry the brand. Almost immediately she says to go somewhere else. Not… I’m afraid I don’t carry that in office but if you’d like to come in and find a similar style or I could look into special ordering what you want. I was taken back a bit because I was hoping my Optometrist whom I was so happy to have found would take care of me. I have decided to look into somewhere else that would take care of me and my son. I don’t want this phone experience to take away from the great staff but I felt a little let down. Hence the 4 star review. Still great office. Thanks for the time.

I Walked in was greeted, was educated and well informed on my options. I was a new patient and was seen without an appointment. I just needed my check up and prescription since I had already spotted some frames else where. I was given my prescription with out hassle. The staff didn’t act like sales reps either. Very peaceful atmosphere. Will definitely recommend.

Dr. Trinh and her staff (Roberta and Susan) are super chill. Very professional work for a low cost. I am very satisfied with my eye check-​up and new ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision. I have United Healthcare insurance and paid only $ 86 for designer frames.
If you don’t have insurance, no worries. I think you can get a good deal, too. $ 120 for an eye exam and glasses! However, if you want designer frames, your total cost without insurance would probably be around $ 150 – 200. Dr. Trinh said that she would even give you a special price if you tell her I sent you (because I am charming like that… haha) so mention my name! ;)
