Awesome best pizza ever would recommend anytime

OK this pizza is a mystery to me, it is not Italian or Greek style, in fact it has no style. I’ve lived locally most of mt life and even lived up the road for a brief time from the original Tony and Anne’s in N. Chelmsford in mid-80’s and we used to jokingly call it «beach pizza». I now realize that is an insult to «beach pizza». We bought a large pie on a Friday for dinner and brought it home in anticipation because of the hype, as each of my family members took a bite, a silent confusion fell around the table of what it was we were consuming. My two teenage boys were the first to fall, my two athletes that eat me out of house and home, didn’t get through two bites each. Then the wife was next, she courageously got through two bites, then dropped out. Now there was just me, I was determined to eat what I had paid for, but to no avail, as my family laughed and commented, «You can’t eat it either». For the first time in my family’s history (half of my family is Italian) we threw out almost a whole pizza because no one could eat it, unheard of. I wish I kept a slice to have it analyzed as we still don’t know what kind of cheese was on it, the sauce was strange and dough was soggy. This recipe should have been left to memories and «nostalgia», a frozen Red Baron pizza from Hannaford is better.

This is the worst pizza I have ever eaten in my entire life. The sickeningly sweet sauce was a total turn off and ruined it entirely. I choked down one piece before calling it quits.
They would need to cook the pies longer at a higher heat, add more cheese, and remove the massive quantities of sugar they add to the sauce to make it palatable.
No idea why people think this is good pizza, it is not.

Best pizza EVER… the sweet sauce, the crust, the cheese. Everything about it is perfect! I travel from Nashua to Dracut twice a month just to eat here!

Love it or hate it…
I completely understand the mixed reviews as this pizza is very unique — never had another like it. Based on my star rating, you probably know I’m a fan… A BIG fan… We drive 44 miles to get this pizza and take home frozen pizzas to make at home (take home is good, but not as amazing as eating it fresh)
I first had this pizza when they were in Chelmsford and instantly fell in love… was disappointed when they closed and longingly awaited their re-​opening — hoping it would taste the same… And it did!
So what is so unique… And will you love it or hate it?
— the sauce is sweet
— the cheese is smokey flavored — I wish I knew what cheese blend they use
— the pizza can be soupy, lots of sauce, but I love that! You really need a fork if it’s fresh out of their oven, you can also ask for light sauce… But why would you?
My favorite pie is a pepperoni and onion… I haven’t tried all the new specialty pizzas they offer, so I can’t comment. I can’t bear the thought of not having my favorite in order to try something new!

I know a lot of people grew up with this place when it was over in N Chelmsford… and that’s fine… nostalgia is a great thing.
But…IMO…this is some of the worst pizza on the planet. You would have to really work hard to make pizza worse than this. The sauce is soooo sweet that its barely edible… think 2 parts Ragu and 1 part sugar. Better pizza can be found in the freezer at Hanaford.

My favorite pizza of all time. It is very unique in all aspects. The sauce is sweet with a smokey flavor. The cheese melts like soup, so be prepared to use a fork and knife. I usually like a lot of toppings on my pizza but with Tony and Ann’s I always go with plain cheese. Nothing compares. Was so happy when they reopened in Dracut a couple years ago.

Pizza is good, very sweet so if you don’t like sweet pizza don’t even try it. You need to eat this pizza right away as it is very greasy and gets soggy fairly quickly!

I was craving pizza on this cold, blustery New England night. We usually go to Vic’s, but decided to venture out and try other places. H did what a good man should and checked Unilocal for reviews of decent pizza places in Dracut/​Centralville. Seeing that Tony and Ann’s had a four star rating and was less than two miles from our home, we decided. Yes. Let’s do this.
This pizza establishment is easy to get to/​from as this is one of two «major» streets in town. It’s located on Broadway across the street from CVS and has, what looks like, three designated spots assigned to the pizza joint (although I’m sure you can park anywhere if you’re in and out).
First off, H and I called three times to make an order. The first two times were met with an answering machine… and after hearing the regular business hours and then the holiday hours, there would be no way possible for the restaurant to be closed at 4:15 on a Saturday afternoon. Well, I guess three times is the charm. My call was answered by a hasty boy asking for my order– a large mushroom/​pepperoni pizza for pick up. The wait was 25 minutes. but whatever. It’s Saturday night.
Upon arrival, I can’t help but think that the pizza was made sloppily and with absolutely no regard to the customer. The texture of the overall pizza was soft– EVERYTHING was soft. The crust and edge of the pizza was soft, nearly soggy (I NEVER eat edges because I don’t like how it’s usually so brick hard. Tony and Ann’s pizza had the opposite effect.) and barely kept its shape. The cheese did not ooze off the slice, but slid off due to an abundance of sweet sauce and layers of cheap cheese. The pepperoni was not at all crispy and firm, but soggy and messy beneath the cheese. The mushroom was CANNED and goopy. (I prefer it fresh, but hey that’s me). My plate was left with huge stains of red oil. Blech. But the thing I can’t get over is a LARGE pizza is a 12″ and the stupid pie cost $ 14 + tax/​tip?
Yeah. Definitely pass. Don’t even waste your time!

I would give this pizza zero stars if I could. There is such a thing as bad pizza, and this is it. Tony and Ann’s is the worst pizza I have ever eaten. Nothing else even compares to its horribleness.
Yes, the sauce is sweet. It’s nauseatingly sweet. I was told they soak carrots in the sauce to make it taste like this. I am not a fan of carrots, so perhaps this is true. But if the taste of the sauce weren’t awful enough, the pizza is absolutely sopping with it, with very little cheese in comparison.
Save your money and get Little Caesar’s, which tastes downright delicious in comparison. Stay home and eat Elio’s.

This place is decent, well known for their pizza and has a huge following. I myself do not like sweet sauce pizza and that is what this is, they also don’t really have anything else on the menu except meatball subs and a few other dishes. If you love pizza like I do but like sweet sauce, check this place out.

My husband has been telling me how his mother insisted on eating at Tony and Ann’s when he was a kid, but that he never liked it because the sauce was too sweet. He also hates beach pizza, but I like it so I wanted to try this place and see who was right… my husband or his mother. Taking my first bite, I thought ok this is sweet, but it’s not too bad. I kind of actually liked the first couple bites, but the more I ate, the more I hated it. It’s not just sweet, it’s sickeningly sweet. The pizza pretty much tasted like sugar and possibly Swiss cheese? The cheese just comes off in one big sheet when you bite into it because there’s so much sauce. Bottom line, all the good reviews are from people who like it because they’ve eaten here since they were kids. It’s not good. Really not good. And the interior of the place is absolutely horrendous!

My boyfriend and I ate here at Tony & Ann’s for the first time, we love to try new. We ordered fresh cut french fries and a large half cheese half pepperoni pizza. The fresh cut fries were amazing! The large pizza was kinda small compared to other pizza places. On the other hand the pizza looked amazing so my boyfriend and I started to eat. When we each grabbed a slice, the cheese and sauce fell right off the dough. The dough was extremely thin and soggy! The sauce is sweet which I found to be very good! if the dough wasn’t so thin and soggy it would have been a great pizza.

I admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for Tony and Ann’s as I have so many fond memories of my parent’s taking my brothers and I to their old North Chelmsford location many years ago, with Tony leaning out the window chatting up a storm :) We loved their pizza then, and my wife, kids, and I love it still.
Unlike the cookie cutter Greek style pizza shops that are so common in the Merrimack Valley, Tony and Ann’s pizza is unique. Their signature sweet sauce stands out in a very positive way. The pizzas may not be perfectly round, slices not all cut the same size, and a bit on the oily side with cheese swimming loosely on top of the pie making it difficult to eat by hand, but this only adds to the pleasurable experience.
Their options have the standard run of toppings, but also a few additional no so usual, such as hot dog, shepards pie, and baked ziti.
My personal favorite is their buffalo chicken pizza. The heat of the buffalo chicken and their sweet sauce compliment each other perfectly. In my opinion, it is the single best pizza in the area. My wife and I keep going back for this terrific pizza. But you can’t go wrong with any of them.
They do have calzones, subs, fresh hand cut fries, meatballs, and a few other sides. But the pizza is the main attraction here. I strongly recommend you give it a try. And if you go for their buffalo chicken pizza, tell Paul that you heard of it from Barry.

Ahhhh nostalgia. I have been going to Tony and Ann’s since I was a little kid. It used to be the highlight of our weekend making the «big trek» from Dracut to Chelmsford to grab a couple of pizzas. This pizza is definitely not for everyone… but I love it. The sauce is sweet and the cheese is delicious. This is the only pizza place I will ever go to and just order a plain cheese pizza because it’s soooooo yummy. Toppings are not necessary at all. Give it a try and see what the hype is all about!

Was so happy when they reopened, wish it was still in Chelmsford but I don’t mind the drive. The pizza is the best, they use a really yummy sweet sauce and the cheese is tasty too. There was a reason why there was a line out the door when they reopened a few years ago.

When I was little, my parents used to bring me and my sister to Tony and Ann’s pizza. We went in, Tony gave us a dum, dum, and then we were allowed to eat only one slice of pizza in the car (because it’s messy!) The smell of the pizza in the car was so ridiculously good.
Tony started to get old and had to wear an oxygen tube in his nose. He was still excited to see my sister and me, and always engaged us in warm conversation (and gave us a dum dum!)
Not too long after, we went for pizza and was greeted with a notice on the door. It explained that Tony had passed away. I’m fairly certain every single member of my family cried that day – because Tony was a great man and we were losing a wonderful pizza joint.
Tony and Ann’s shut down and for many years, we hoped that it would reopen. Then, one day, I got an email from my mom, saying that there was a new pizza joint, and it was trying to replicate the Tony and Ann’s recipe. It was pretty good – as soon as I took a bite I was brought back to the good-​ol-​times. But it wasn’t quite perfect – the crust was to granular.
THEN, I got another email from my mom… and then my aunt… and then my sister… Tony and Ann’s was reopening!!! Not immediately though… they made us wait!
The day it opened, I got a text message from my mom with a picture of her standing in a loooong line. Then, another picture of her eating the pizza!
I had to get home quick! I needed to have some pizza! Soon enough, I was able to travel home. Obviously, my mom bought some frozen pizzas, so I popped one in the oven… WAITED…AND THEN CONSUMED… FEROCIOUSLY. I may have cried a little. It was so good.
Then, I had the chance to go to Tony and Ann’s personally. LET ME TELL YOU. I didn’t think it could get any better. Having a slice right out of the oven is ridiculously spectacular.
Our order came to about 100 dollars. You may think, «Wow! That’s expensive pizza.» But do not fret, we just bought about 20 frozen pizzas to go. Our trunk was dragging on the road… and we had to buy a new fridge. BUT IT IS WORTH IT!
Tony, I miss you. But I am SO glad that I get to enjoy your marvelous pizza again.

If you live in the Lowell area it’s more than likely that you know about this local legend. The pizza served at Tony and Ann’s is a one of a kind. The pizza has a sweet sauce and unique cheese blend that you won’t find anyplace else — and this CAN NOT be overstated.
In addition to the unique taste, the place has a storied history, with three generations involved in the business, and several spots on the Simpson’s in the 90’s. Tony and Ann’s spent the majority of it’s existence in North Chelmsford, before closing it’s doors in 2002. However, the grandchildren of the original founders reopened the restaurant in Dracut early in 2010. And through it all the recipe and many of the faces behind the counter have remained the same.
Some personal favorites of mine are the plain pizza, and meatball sandwich.
Worth noting is that they also sell frozen pizza’s. In the past Tony and Ann’s used to close in the winter, so people would stock up with «frozens» while they were closed. The «frozens» cook up and taste EXACTLY the same as ones ordered fresh.
