George’s Dreshertown Shop n Bag

I love this little neighborhood grocery store! It’s a hidden gem. They might not carry everything I want but they carry everything I need — and when I have asked them to order something special they have done it without hesitation.
The chain grocery stores in this area — Giant, Whole Foods Jenkintown, and Acme — are terrible and their customer service is abysmal. At George’s they ALWAYS call you to follow up on questions. And they try their best to fill your requests. Recently I couldn’t find the multi-​packs of fat-​free Fig Newtons that have been a staple at their registers for as long as I have been shopping there. No one in the store could figure out why they were missing. I left my name and within a day I received a call saying a new supplier had stocked the store and didn’t replenish the Fig Newtons. George’s assured me that they still carry them and they would be there the next time I come in.
The staff is friendly and you can tell that the customer care runs deep throughout the entire store — from top to bottom and from department to department. Anytime I have ever asked a question or needed help finding something there is always someone on the floor to ask — and they help me with pride and sincere care.
I wish they were a little closer to me but I still drive there to do all of my general shopping.

Terrific supermarket. The only place for miles that has Swiss Miss chocolate and vanilla pudding, and I’ve searched everywhere!

I go here for lunch almost everyday and haven’t been disappointed yet. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the food is great. I thought working in the middle of no where in PA would make me have to eat at a WAWA everyday, but this place has been a pleasant surprise!

I love this store! I will absolutely not shop anywhere else. The people there are so friendly and nice it’s actually enjoyable to go grocery shopping. The guys at the deli remember my family and always are so nice. It’s a smaller store but they have everything I need. If you watch the sales the prices are extremely comparable and competitive. It’s so nice not to have to walk into a giant grocery store that has an overwhelming amount of merchandise.

Just came back here to pick up some things and decided to pick up lunch! So happy I did. Their sushi is fresh, delicious, and reasonable pricing. A colleague of mine got wings, Mac and cheese, and their stuffed cabbage and loved it! $ 5.99 for a lb of hot food is a good deal! Cannot wait to go back!

I purchased an individual slice of cake that they sell on top of their counter. The expiration date was good for weeks. When I took a bite it tasted horrible, like mold! When I spit it out the vanilla cake was also green! I looked at the bottom of the piece through the plastic on saw green mold!!! I ended up throwing up out of disgust. When I took it back to tell them about it they could have not cared less. They just offered to refund what I paid. Ever since then I make it a point never to shop there. I will go out of my way if I have to. It was absolutely disgusting and so was their response!

I feel incredibly lucky to live near such a great store. Easy parking, friendly staff, always well-​stocked, amazing fish, amazing bakery, quick check-​out and you don’t have to walk miles to get to the dairy section. I brought one of their specialty-​baked key lime pies to a meeting with me, and people were jealous that I had something so great nearby.
They have everything you need. There is a larger Giant nearby that frequently doesn’t have what I’m looking for (and usually only has 2 checkers on), but George’s is small and yet manages to carry everything good. Is this where to go to stock up on staples and paper goods? No, because they don’t have the very lowest prices. But on the other hand, they’re not horribly expensive, either, so I don’t feel guilty dropping in to pick up a few things, or re-​stocking fresh food mid-​week.
I can’t believe someone down-​rated it because it wasn’t huge like Whole Paycheck, or wasn’t new-​looking outside. It’s clean and attractive inside, and they always have just the right number of checkers

I drive past approximately 15 grocery stores and for 25+ mins to get to George’s. Their hot bar is excellent, their selection is surprisingly diverse/​upscale and their employees are friendly, but all of that is an afterthought when considering their bakery. I have paid 5x what they charge for ½ the quality of what they give you in cakes, cookies and cupcakes. It’s gourmet level for grocery store prices (cheaper!). Just today the employees there went above and beyond for me, too long a story for a review but my three kids and I left full, satisfied and happy with customer service that was BEYOND EXCELLENT from both the bakery and the cashier (during her busy lunch time). Thank you Georges, you are unrivaled in so many areas and we are lucky to have this local gem.

Our new market. Terrific selection, you can purchase Sunday lox and bagels along with the fixings for a Saturday evening dinner. Friendly staff, special mention to the deli and bakery. Gorgeous cupcakes and other treats (reminded me of Chelsea Market).

Such a great store! It’s rare that you find family owned grocery stores anymore. You can tell about the care that goes into this store by most of the product being fresh and undamaged. Unlike Wal-​mart or other stores that just toss whatever on the shelf regardless of what the item looks like. Great staff, great prices, fresh food, good deli, fresh fish. You name it, they got it!

Dresher shop-​n-​bag has always been a wonderful grocery store. The staff has always been friendly, the food is always the most fresh in the area and most items are very affordable. My family has shopped there for 20+ years and we plan to continue our support.
BTW: it’s nice to see the same staff for years. It shows they believe in the store.

George’s Shop n bag’s cooked foods rivals most restaurants.
The staff is extraordinary and always helpful. Try stopping in when you’re nearby. You’ll find everything you want and more. I also want to mention the bakery. Their baked goods are wonderful and they make the most beautiful and delicious birthday cakes you’ll find anywhere.

This Shop N Bag is a small supermarket whose staff is helpful and whose prices are competitive. The fish section is very good. I don’t shop there much anymore because the aisles are so overcrowded with displays that I have found it difficult to take products off a shelf since the displays have blocked my access so frequently. In addition, employees are constantly blocking the aisles restocking shelves. Other customers have also been annoyed by this.
I have spoken to the day manager, the night substitute manager, and customer service. The managers made excuses as to why nothing would be done — the size of the store being the primary problem.
There are other small stores in the area who seem to have solved the stocking problem. It’s sad that Dresher Shop N Bag is not willing to explore options to make their customers shopping experience comfortable.

Dresher shop and bag is growing on me. At first the outside appearance really threw me off but this is a perfect example of when not to judge a book by it’s cover. They actually have wonderful produce and a ton of unique items. They even have organic produce and other organic item.
I really like that they have local companies come in and give samples of their products. Just last week I bought pickles from a local co that I may have overlooked if I hadn’t sampled them.
The staff is also very nice and friendly and they often have good deals on seasonal flowers and plants.
They’re salad bar is awesome and the prepared foods are always good. The sushi is actually pretty good. I wouldn’t do my weekly grocery shopping here because it’s quite small but I do frequent it for a quick lunch or if I need something to make for dinner.

Wonderful neighborhood grocery store. One of the best fish counters around. Friendly, helpful staff. Proves there still are markets that you can run into for a couple of things and be out in 5 minutes.

The go-​to takeout lunch spot during the work week. The guys at the deli know how to build a turkey special. Wednesdays they’ve got stuff to make tacos at the salad bar. The pub-​style hot roast beef sub is phenomenal.
They sell groceries, too.

I usually go here after I work out at the gym. Which is a pretty bad idea because I am typically really hungry after I work out. Lucky for them.
I love the fresh fish section, and they also have a great organic and gluten free section too. Pretty large supermarket with nice wide isles and friendly employees. I spend way too much $ here.

Wow. My mother used to shop here when we lived here back in the 80s, and when I was passing through this weekend and needed some tonic water, I stopped in for old time’s sake.
The old girl could really use a face-​lift. (The Shop-​n-​Bag, not my mother.) It hasn’t changed a bit in 20 years (wish I could say the same), down to the 30-​foot 70s-​script teal green sign on the front.
Not a bad market, but a little small and really outclassed by the Whole Foods concept, as well as the actual stores, although the deli section was clean and fresh and there were a few little old ladies handing out samples.
The cashiers are still local teenagers, all skinny, gum-​chewing zit farmers, but they seemed to have fun with each other even if they weren’t talking to the customers.
Probably deserves two stars, but the giant teal-​green sign is way worth an extra star.
