Delaware County Memorial Hospital

I will not bash a hospital but if I have a minor issue or an emergency situation I will not go to this facility. If the nearest hospital is an hour away so be it :/

Well, my husband had to have emergency surgery. I attempted to reach a more renown doctor from Pennsylvania Hospital, I really didn’t want him to have surgery here. That physician returned my call while I was in the shower and I missed him. He rushed off to his own OR so I had no other option. Moving right along…
My husband is ushered off to the OR and I am present when he awakes from his slumber. The OR nurse came up to tell me he was having problems with his pressure which impacts his already impacted kidneys. She said make certain they don’t use the electronic BP monitor, only the cuff. I had to check a few nurses along the way, but hey, they had the right one. I don’t play!
The surgeon spoke with me and told me what the issue was. So far so good…
So I am speaking with my husband early morning approximately 8:00am, and he is in extreme pain. I’m confused because he had an epidural. He mentioned being extremely cold and wet as well. I immediately called the nurse station and headed to him. We unveiled he had been suffering in pain since approximately 2:00am and had his bed changed because he was sweating. Turns out, he wasn’t sweating; his epidural dislodged and the liquid was squirting on him. That pain he endured, you guessed it, they never checked the the connection after his sudden spike in pain — even after needing to be changed. Can you say furious???
Lastly, I had to report that nurse and housekeeping. The room smelled of old cleaning water. I’m use to the smell of bleach, or Pine Sol myself…
Oh, I guess I should mention, the removing of the staples appeared a bit rough. I hate that people assume my husband 6’4″ doesn’t feel pain. He is so not a cry baby. You try snatching out staples that have skin grown over them.
I have 4 stars because they saved my husband’s life which is most important. Additionally, they houses me when my child was born. I used the Midwives of Delco — Beth (I believe that was her name) was who was with me on that day was phenomenal!

Every time I come in to get my birth control shot, the office staff reminds me I need to find a new Gynecologist. It really is unfortunate, because I like my doctor, but this staff is beyond horrible. The last time I was in there I was being examined for an ovarian cyst. After the exam they said to open the door after getting dressed so I could get my shot. I did so, and I waited an hour and a half before asking someone in the hallway when I could receive my shot. They were confused, and as it turns out the girl that said she would give it to me went for her lunch. I ended up being late for work because I put in time to come in late.
Now I have reached my limit, as I was told that my shot would be at my new pharmacy to pick up but it isn’t there yet. I can honestly say that if this staff does not change their absolutely horrible customer service skills, I won’t be coming back. I have been coming to this office since my early twenties, so it’s sad to leave somewhere that knows me so well, or so I thought they did.
When picking a gynecologist stay away from this office. The general staff could care less how they treat people.

Awful experience here. My grandmom was taken here by ambulance after I found her on the ground and nearly unresponsive in her home. She obviously had been in the same spot all day, and for that reason wasn’t clean. The medics wrapped her in a blanket and took her to the ER. The ER people were so mean. They made some many rude comments as they cleaned her off. They placed an IV for saline — it fell out twice and ran down her arm. I had to go and find someone to fix it each time. They told me she had a urinary track infection. When the ER doctor came in, he was immediately frustrated because he couldn’t communicate with her (she wears hearing aids and did not have them in) and was rude to me when I had a few questions. During the 6 hour wait for them to find a room to move her to, as she was being admitted, I needed to use the restroom. It was so dirty. Skip to day two. My dad was with her during the day, and I came in at night. She was a bit better but still very confused and complaining about being hungry. I asked the nurse about this — apparently they had kept her off food in the morning in order to run a test, but no one had bothered to update her board in her room to indicate she could then receive food, and so, no one had brought her any. After this fun discovery, they microwaved a tv dinner and put it down in front of her. If anyone has ever made one, you know that when you pull the plastic back, the steam is very hot. She could have gotten hurt! No one had any answers to any questions for me, which is also very frustrating. I’m on her HIPPA forms so there isn’t an issue of privacy. I questioned a number of tests and no one could explain to me why she was having them — just «doctor’s orders». This «doctor», I’m not sure has even seen her, as neither my dad nor I saw him, and we were with her pretty much all day. No one has shown her any compassion or bedside manner at all. I understand that it is a busy hospital, but here is a 87 year old woman who is sick and confused. I’m trying to get her transferred out. I’m so upset with this place. Had I been able to get her out of the house without the medics help, I would have taken her somewhere else for treatment.

Had a baby there and it was an awful experience. They were mean to me and my husband, the postpartum room was dirty, they gave my baby formula after we told them not to … I could go on

We had our first baby here. The nurses (with whom I mainly interacted) in labor & delivery, postpartum, and the NICU were tremendous. Loved our care very much, and almost every day, I felt like i was in the hands of people who had my and my baby’s interest in mind.
But $ 8 for a day pass? It racks up if you have an individual in the hospital for a week or so (which we did). I say, validate parking.
It was great to have Wifi all over the hospital (some spots are spottier than others), cell phone reception was good too. I had at least 3G everywhere, sometimes LTE.

When you have an emergency and you’re scared and unsure of what to do, you want to have comforting, professional people around you. That’s what Delaware County Memorial Hospital offered in my time of need and I couldn’t be happier with my experience there.
I wound up needing an emergency appendectomy (what a useless organ) and found myself driving myself to the ER on a Saturday morning. Luckily, they are only a few minutes from my home! As soon as I got to the ER, the nurse took me into the back, took one look at me and told me that I would be having surgery that day! I have never been a patient in a hospital, I’ve never had an IV (not a fan of needles), never even broken a bone… so as you can imagine, my anxiety level was through the roof at this point!
From the ER nurse who distracted me while she put in my IV, to the CAT scan techs and the people who wheel you around to the different rooms, everyone was so friendly and comforting. I ask a lot of questions when I don’t know what’s happening, and they were all sweet enough to respond to everything I asked with a detailed answer and a smile.
I had my surgery and woke up with a new bunch of friendly faces around me. My mother drove down from NY to stay with me, and the nurses offered to put a cot in the room so that she could stay overnight with me! They even made me a «Hug Pillow» for when I had to get up and move around (you’re supposed to hold it to your abdomen to help with the pain) and decorated it with flowers!
Not that I’m hoping to have another emergency any time soon, but if I did, I would absolutely trust Delco Memorial to take care of me!
