Specialties

At Foggy Ridge Cider in the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Cidermaker Diane Flynt combines innovation and tradition. Over 30 American, English and French apple varieties – ugly and hard to grow but full of the tannin, acid and aroma needed for fine cider – are blended to create a traditional hard cider crafted with modern techniques

History

Established in 2005.

«She treats her trees like individuals”-a neighboring farmer accuses apple grower and cidermaker Diane Flynt of lavishing too much attention on her apple trees, but high quality fruit and carefully crafted cider are the goals at Foggy Ridge Cider.

Chuck and Diane Flynt searched for years to find their wonderful property in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA. Too high in elevation for grapes they decided to plant apple trees instead taking a cue from the existing orchard already on the farm property. Today Foggy Ridge grows over 30 different apple types (mostly American heritage and english cider apples) and uses them all in their wonderful ciders. They started making cider in 2005 and opened the ciderhouse for tasting in 2006.

Today we sell cider in VA, NC, SC, AL, MD, De and GA as well as NYC. we have an online store and ship cider to various states across the US.

We love the fruit that goes into making the quality hard cider we make! All from Virginia grown apples!

Meet the Business Owner

Diane F.

Business Owner

Diane started her love of growing things as a child growing up in Georgia. her dad and mom were avid gardners and instilled in her the thrill of watching something come to live that you planted. They taught her well about selecting quality seeds and plants, planting them in fertile soil and caring for them as they matured. She does the same with her own orchard today!

Eventhough her first career was in banking, she knew that she always wanted her ‘end of life» career to be about growing something. After many years in the corporate world and travelling as a consultant, in 1997 the time was right for her and her husband to purchase land and start working on Diane’s dream. She attended training classes and apprenticeships for years until she was finally able to make her own cider in 2005.

Diane is also a member of the Virginia Wine Board, appointed by the Governor, that assist with developing this critical industry for the state of Virginia.
