Fairfield Inn of Duluth

I’ve been coming to Duluth for business on a monthly basis for 5 years, and I stay regularly at this Fairfield location. The layout and décor is similar to other Fairfields. If you are happy with the amenities provided by this brand of Marriott hotels, you won’t be disappointed staying here. Every member of the staff is always very friendly and has always sought to make my stays as comfortable as possible. I travel extensively for business and the extra care from this staff is often the difference that sets my mind at ease and results in a comfortable stay. The extra bonus here is the pet-​friendly status of the hotel. My pup is welcomed with open arms and gets plenty of treats and loving attention. You guys are the best!
While I can understand other reviewers concerns regarding the parking space, I’ve never arrived at the hotel without a place to park. For me, parking has not been, and is not a concern whether arriving early afternoon or late evening. I’ve also never had any issues with internet access.

I have to only give this hotel 4 stars because of some issues I felt with during my two night stay. When I walked into the front door I was shocked by try size of the «lobby» area. It was super small as well as the eating area.
The hotel was full of school age kids who were staying overnight for a hockey tournament… I should have known it was going to be a good night. From 6pm till 10pm on a Saturday night, kids were running up and down the hallways screaming and whatnot. I called the desk maybe 2 – 3 times. Didn’t work. So much for getting to bed for a busy following day.
Now I get it, it was –15 outside the following morning. But when I go outside to warm my car up, what do I see in the handicap parking spot next too the door… The front desk works truck parked, on, and warming up. Now I wouldn’t mind if she was handicap, but she was defiantly far for it. How do I know it was her truck, the night before she was on the other end of the hotel smoking while warming her truck up and shoveling snow from its tailgate. Not very professional or courteous if a handicap person tried to pull up and park.
The hotel is old. You can tell by the décor when you enter the hallways, the elevator that is super tiny that takes a LONG time to get to you, and the bathtub. The soap dish was screwed into the wall because they seem to have did a patch job from what looked like it was stopped off.
Overall, if no hockey tournament is going on and they add some more food options for breakfast, I’ll be back. Easy walking distance to Buffalo Wild Wings for some wings and beer.

Okay facility west of downtown Duluth. The facility is a bit aged but the décor has been updated. Room was fine with comfortable beds and it’s a quiet area for a peaceful sleep. The complimentary breakfast is meh, but they try. Just so-​so.

Super friendly and pleasant receptionist at check in. Room was pretty standard, but clean and quiet. A great view from our room.
Looks like a nice pool and breakfast bar. A good choice for visiting Duluth or near by Superior.
A little surprised at the cost though. It’s a category 6 hotel (really?) meaning plush. It’s pretty basic and the location has little around… cost (high season $ 250+ per night on Friday)

This hotel is poorly managed. It’s an older building in need of structural repair and updating. Easter weekend there was NO housekeeping! I’m all in favor of giving employees off however they could have hired a temporary crew or had management fill in. Internet connection was horrendous. Parking is adequate but cramped. Beds were fair to poor in quality; my husband who has back problems had difficulty sleeping and awoke with a sore back. We have stayed at tons of Marriott properties and unfortunately, will not be back to this one. Wish we could leave a better review.
Ellen– it is you who are confused. Other than a breakfast and passing through to/​from our room we were not in your lobby and indeed our time spent in Duluth was to visit family, during which time we were certainly not in your lobby doing so. Your response is quite telling of management and affirms my review. My profile is in my maiden name so I’m not certain who you «think» you know in your response but I assure you that you are mistaken. If you spent as much time reflecting, implementing positive, effective change, and trying to better your management and facility as you do trying to ‘figure out’ which of your guests leave you reviews you’d likely have much more business and a happier client base. You certainly would see an unhappy guest experience diffused (service recovery? De-​escalation?) instead of making it more inflammatory.
I use Unilocal quite frequently to determine a good place to make choices in areas I’m unfamiliar, or visiting. My reviews are honest, but fair. I hope that others reading this review will clearly see that this hotel is a definite pass. Not only are there issues w the property itself, but even moreso with management.

Great hotel for the price. Excellent staff. Rooms are very clean. I only gave 4 stars because of the bad parking accommodations. If you are bringing your boat, DON’T pull into their parking lot, as the lot is verrrry small, and you will have to back out of the lot onto a busy street.

Updating for honesty. My son forgot his iPod in the room. Fairfield found it and UPSed it to us. My son is happy as can be, and I am impressed. Thanks guys.
