Golden House

Tried Golden House for the first time this past Saturday morning for Dim Sum. Lots of parking for a Saturday brunch.
FOOD:
— EGG CUSTARD (Daan Taat): one of our favorites of the table. It was super fresh and still hot when we got it.
— RICE NOODLE ROLLS (Cheung Fun): really fresh and hot as well. So hot and fresh that it was hard to pick up with chopsticks for some of us. Love how fresh it was! We ordered shrimp as I didn’t see the pork version.
— SHRIMP DUMPLINGS (Ha Gao): the dumplings are probably the largest ones I’ve seen compared to the other restaurants that serve this item. They were generous with the amount of pork stuffed into the dumpling and the rice noodle skin was fresh.
— SHRIMP OR PORK DUMPLINGS (Siu Mai): like the ha gao, these are very large in size as well. There were two kinds that looked very similiar (which I believe was either pork or shrimp). They both taste great. Our table probably ordered five to six orders of siu mai.
— TURNIP CAKE: love this dim sum staple. It has the texture of rice noodle and it is mixed with pieces of pork. So good and you can let them know how long they should cook the cake for. The longer, the crispier the outside layer is.
— FRIED BALL STUFFED WITH TARO & PORK: it is kind of like a a dumpling except the exterior is a fried and flaky shell with taro and pork stuffing.
— FRIED BALL STUFFED WITH PORK: this is similar the the one above, but not with a flaky exterior, just a slightly crispy exterior. It is stuffed with pork and the inside also looks very gluttonous.
— FRIED SHRIMP BALLS: for all those shrimp lovers, this is a must order. The exterior is covered with sliced wonton wrappers that is fried. It is served with a sauce that looks like duck sauce.
— SESAME BALLS: love how fresh they are. They were hot and the crust was just perfect.
— ROLLED TOFU SKIN with BEEF: I like these. They were good.
— TRIPE: pretty standard as how it should taste.
— CHINESE BROCCOLI: we got it topped with destroyer sauce which we should have probably asked for on the side just so you can control how much you add.
— SALT & PEPPER CALAMARI: I would never order this again. It was not good and probably one of the worst calamaris that I’ve ever had. All you will taste is the fried batter and air.
SERVICE:
I would rate Golden House at 3.5 rounded to 4. I think the disappointment comes from the service. It can be very spotty and overall, can be frustrating at times. I did notice that our original server did not come by when he can clearly see (I was looking out) that we were done with the small plates and needed refills on tea and water. I had to flag down three to four servers that happened to be walking by by raising my hand just so that they can refill our condiments and drinks. The best server was the service provided by the Manager/​GM/​Owner as he literally came by and cleaned up all the small dishes and grab new orders of dim sum for us when carts weren’t coming by anymore.
Overall, pretty good dim sum. There were eleven of us and we all left pretty stuffed and only paying $ 16 each. They will split the check of the table at the entrance where there is a cashier. I would like to try their dinner menu someday. Would definitely consider grabbing dim sum at Golden House in the future, but only if I would like to make the drive.

You cannot imagine how many times I have been here. The bun with cream in it is always the best!!!
Shrimp dumplings are pretty good too!

Dim Sum so good this is a must visit place if you’re anywhere close to Atlanta. Service with the fresh food carts are very friendly The place is super clean

My recent visit to this location has made me switch sides (sorry Canton House BuHi). I found Golden House to be more cleanlier than other places and much more friendlier. On the plus side… their dim sum had more flavor (i.e. didnt taste like they just stuck it in a microwave). The egg tarts had more flavor than other places and my favorite, shrimp dumplings, were so savory! The cart ladies are attentive and friendly. They also «tell» you what is what instead of just pointing and saying one word. Much better than canton house. The bill was around $ 40 or so which is common among other dim sum places to me, just better quality in my opinion.
I would definitely come back to this location since I live so close. Just right across the 85 diamond exchange on pleasant hill road on the left. Huge sign. cant miss it!

Food’s fantastic

I have been a couple of times again since the last review and still the same opinion and feelings. The flavors are still there. The dim sum is still tasty though once again not quite fresh on a week day.
I am going to have to apologize now for my rant on the service.
This time I am giving 2 stars because I cannot get over the fact that the service is still irritating. We were seated quickly because there were not that many diners on a Tuesday afternoon. However as I was paying for the bill at the register I saw a couple of new incoming diners irritated because they were standing there for several minutes and yet to be greeted by anyone. Once we were directed to a table we were immediately addressed with a server and dim sum cart asking what we wanted from the cart. Though I did not mention this in the previous review of this restaurant, it always bothers me that they do this before we even get to have our bottoms even touch the chairs or before we can even take off our jackets to sit. It is not like they are so busy that they cannot give you 30 seconds to get settled. Then once they come by with the cart it is over. They do not come by again. I mean it is dim sum. The carts are supposed to come by again and again. So if you do not order all the food you want at once and have the food lose heat as you eat, then you are out of luck of getting that many more opportunities. After that initial chance, you have to hope to be able to flag down someone or get up out of your table to go ask someone standing around if you can see the cart again. Also like the last review, with 5 people and one tea pot you are bound to need a refill in 15 – 20 minutes. But you are usually out of luck because no one will come by to check on you. You will once again have to hope that a server looks your way to get him/​her to come give you some hot water. With all this said, everyone is pretty nice and pleasant once you get their attention.
Also the highchair we were given had a broken buckle. For those of you who have an infant or child, you know how hard it is to have an energetic and wiggly kid stay put for a meal. Totally not safe. I did not appreciate having to spend half the meal readjusting my son to make sure he wasn’t slumped over or about to fall out.
We do keep coming back, because Golden House is the best tasting dim sum in the area that we have found so far. Once I find another place that offers tasty dim sum and a little bit of service, I likely be out.

This continues to be my family’s to go place for authentic Cantonese food and dim sum. I had a chance to visit again on Thanksgiving night with my mom and we had a quite enjoyable meal. I didn’t want to get seafood at the time so decided on some new dishes we haven’t tried before.
The Spare Ribs with Taro pot was unexpectedly one of the best hot pot dishes I’ve had. It was quite creamy and the taro was really soft. The spare ribs I believe they probably fried it first to get that chewy feels to it. Very happy with this choice. The sauce goes so well with rice that you’ll feel constantly wanting seconds :)
The other two dishes we got were quite nice as well but weren’t as memorable as the Taro Spare Ribs. The steak fillet was quite delicious but I thought the portion were on the lighter side considering the price, however I could see they use higher quality steaks which would explain the higher price. Definitely recommended if you’re more into the softer and tender steak tips.
They actually had a wedding banquet at the time so the staff were running busy. However we didn’t feel neglected at all and their service was quite efficient. Overall another pleasant experience to the restaurant and definitely remains one of our favorite Cantonese restaurants

Yes yes yes. Dim sum (or Yum Cha if you’re like me) 11am — midnight, every day. If only everything in life was this simple.
I’ve scoured alleys in Beijing and busy warehouse-​style Sunday restaurants in Shanghai and even Sydney’s famed Chinatown for the best clay pot Ma Po tofu in the world — and although this doesn’t win the award, it was a very solid effort.
The sui mai is delicious and the servings are generous. In an area that is surprisingly lacking in authentic Chinese cuisine, Golden House stands out above the rest.

Not as good as my regular dim sum place in N.Y. Chinatown… but still enjoying this place

Love this place for dim sum. It was everything we were hoping for and then a little more. We’ve only had dim sum at one other major restaurant in the city, Oriental Pearl, so we only have one other comparison.
Golden house is leaps and bounds beyond Oriental Pearl in the variety of the food they offer for a Sunday dim sum. We tried pork dumplings, chive & pork dumplings, rice noodle filled with shrimp, chinese broccoli, pork neck, shu mai, bbq pork buns, roast duck, clams, and a first for us was tofu skin filled with pork. The tofu skin and clams were clear winners but everything else was very good as well. And that wasn’t all of it. One thing many families (familiar to dim sum) were getting was the chicken feet, which was a telling sign of how good it must be. I was tempted to try it but I have no idea how to eat chicken feet, without looking like a rookie. My husband said he’s tried it in China and didn’t care for it. If it’s your thing, definitely get it; everyone was when we were there.
Next time I am back, I will definitely get beef tripe, something I missed and forgot about until we were walking out and saw it on someone’s table. I would also order sticky rice.
Almost everything we had was delicious. The calamari (fried squid) was a miss for us because some pieces were overcooked while others were cooked well.
One time, a woman pushing a cart came over to us because I’d made eye contact with her and gestured her to come to our table. Once she got there, she just said «What?» It felt abrupt and rude but I won’t dock a star from the overall experience; I understand she wasn’t trying to be malicious. Just be prepared for a random rude remark from one of the cart ladies but otherwise, this is definitely the place to have good dim sum on a weekend.

Came on a weekend and the restaurant and parking lot were pretty full but we were seated right away. Service is good and fast. The carts came around quickly and there seems to be enough turnover that the same dish wasn’t circling around and around. I was also happy that they had siracha sauce but you have to ask for it and it seems like the bottle came from their fridge so the sauce must not be as popular here as it is in California. Prices are decent. It is $ 2.79 for a small dish and $ 3.79 for a medium dish and $ 0.50 for tea. The restaurant was pretty full and there were a lot of Asian patrons, which is a good sign that this is not a tourist trap (unlike Happy Valley). This is probably a popular banquet venue because the chairs are decorated with red chair covers with gold bows.
We had the typical items… siu mai, shrimp dumplings, turnip cake, bean curd roll, shrimp flour rolls, shrimp on fried tofu, yellow sponge cake, BBQ pork buns. All of the shrimp items are considered medium dishes. The BBQ pork buns were kind of soggy and the flour rolls were mushy. Aside from those items, most of the other items were pretty good.
Overall this was a decent place for dim sum. We haven’t tried very many dim sum places in Atlanta yet but this was the best so far and we’ll be back.

We came across Golden House from doing our research on popular dim sum in Atlanta. We ordered some dim sum and items from dinner menu.
As a Boston native, we didn’t expect the dim sum down south to be top notch but since we’ve heard good things about the Asian restaurants here we had our hopes. We currently live in South Carolina so the closest dim sum to us is in North Carolina. & I would have to say that the one in NC tastes a lot better than Golden House.
Aside from the taste of their food, the interior of the place is very nice and clean. The service was very good & the seating was comfortable. Pricing was just as typical as most dim sum places but not good enough for the taste.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience there and probably would come again for a smaller meal.

A couple of years ago, my church friends brought me here for my birthday because I wanted close to authentic chinese food as it can get. So we had chinese family style dinner. It was really good, I really like their duck.
Afterwards my friends and I came here a lot of brunch before church. We always came around 10am which was a good time, because after that it would get super packed here! They have lots of carts with different types of dim sums to porridge to desserts. Their shu man’s are really good. I really enjoy them here. If you come here with 2 – 3 friends and split the meal ticket, it’s not that bad. The food usually comes in 3−4s.

Usually come to this place when I’m craving Chinese and don’t feel like driving all the way to Doraville.
I’ve tried both dim sum and dinner menu here.
Although I’m not a huge fan of their dim sum, I fairly enjoy their dinner, which this review is for.
Went over the weekend and got seated pretty quickly. Ordered peking duck (1 style), pan fried flounder, garlic butter shrimp, and mapo tofu extra spicy.
Peking duck comes with warm/​soft buns (although not as nearly soft as ippudo/​momofuku in nyc), along with sliced celery & scallion, and hoisin sauce. Server brings the whole duck and slices in front of your table. This is one of my favorite menus.
Pan fried flounder was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is seasoned well and sauce on the bottom adds on subtle but nice flavor.
Garlic butter shrimp seemed it was more geared towards American customers with heavy flavor from garlic and butter but it was good nonetheless. Hopefully less butter next time.
Lastly mapo tofu packed a good punch of spiciness and flavor. Better than most mapo tofus I’ve had in other restaurants in Gwinnett.
On top of good food, servers and owner of this place are very amiable. Owner even gave us a free beer on the house.

Golden House is one the better dim sum restaurants in Duluth. You will get a variety of dishes to pick from and for the most part they are very tasty.
Be sure to come early especially on the weekends because this place gets packed (people sure do love dim sum!) and those food carts only come around so often so make sure you know what you want to get.
Overall, the dim sum selection in GA is rather limited so if you had to pick one, Golden House would be a good place to check out.

My family and I frequent this place a lot and have never had any issues until today. Food came out quick and was good but they didn’t clear our table of used dishes like they usually do so our table was a mess of dirty dishes. That didn’t really make me upset though. They were busy so it’s understandable.
The issue happened when we paid our check. I flagged down a waiter for a box and our check. My stepdad placed $ 2 on the table for tip and asked my mom to put in the rest because he ran out of cash. My mom was busy putting away our leftovers so she didn’t get to it right away. I kept seeing the man who charged us out out looking at our table and was wondering what his deal was. After he gave my stepdad the check, he said to us your bill is $ 50, you need to make sure you tip 15%. WTF?! First of all, we were still in the process of getting ready to leave. It wasn’t like we were all packed up and ready to go. His comment was rude and unnecessary. We always tip at least 20% or more (depending on service). After that comment, I definitely won’t be back.

We came here today to eat Dim Sum because it was closest one to home and we had yet to try it. It is right next to joes crack shack and assi plaza. Not a lot of parking so come early!
The inside is pretty nice compared to a lot of dim sum places I have been that are more casual. The employees here are super nice! They all brought me food and came to check up on me if I needed more food or tea in a motherly way. That is always a nice feeling to have at a restaurant. The food is pretty good. Lot of good options. I was in a hurry so I payed up front but you can pay at your table to. The only thing that annoyed me was after I came here, 1 hr later my credit card information was stolen and now i do not have a credit card until next week because my current one is locked:(. A bit inconvenient. But it happens and I understand. I might pay with cash the next time I come here just in case which i think is understandable. if I didnt learn my lesson I would be a fool right? Despite this issue I still think the employees here are very nice and the food is good so I would recommend this place.

I was invited to The Golden House for a Chinese New Year banquet. And what a banquet it was!
I’ll skip the entertainment since that was provided by the Zhejiang Association of Georgia (ZAGA).
The main room was jammed. I swear there were 300 people there. Waiters brought out course after course of food. Dumplings. Soup. Vegetables. Fried rice. Various types of mushrooms and tofu cooked in a fabulous sauce. Huge whole fish fried up Cantonese style. Lobster. And finally sweetened cakes of sticky rice — dyed red of course for prosperity.
The Shanghaiese guy next to me complained that the order of the courses was wrong. Really? The Zhejiang woman on the other side said since there is no Zhejiang restaurant in the ATL they had to settle for Cantonese.
All I know is that it was terrific and that I had a great time.
Point of information: I had never heard of Zhejiang until I was invited to banquet. Stupid me. The province has 55 million people! And the highest per capita income in China. It also claims to be the most entrepreneurial part of China. That is what is known as «the Zhejiang spirit.»

Located right across the street from Fung Mei on Pleasant Hill Road, and yet I never noticed this little dim sum restaurant. I found this restaurant via a couple of recommendations, so I decided to give it a shot, since I was a little tired of going to the same dim sum staple restaurants of Atlanta.
The parking lot was full but the turnover was quick.
There was no wait when we got there, which was surprising. There are so many tables and people were leaving and entering at the same rate.
We ordered from the carts that came around mostly regularly. Pictured are some usual dishes that were ordered. I wasn’t a fan of the radish cakes, which had a heavy taro flavor that completely covered the salty radish flavor that is traditionally found in radish cakes.
I’m not one to judge dim sum since it’s not my choice meal for sure. But this is a solid dim sum restaurant to bring the fam to.

I’ve passed this place like a hundred times and even had it booked marked and didn’t know it, so when I finally got a Sunday off and was craving Dim Sum Golden House popped up on the Unilocal app.
Gotta say I like it here, it is busy and loud with people and food carts all over the place as others have stated try to come early or you may have to wait. I got here a couple of minutes before noon and GH was a ready full of people some even leaving the building as I entered. Save yourself a headache and don’t bother trying to park up front it will be easier to get a space on the side of the building.
Now on to the food and today’s list of goodies :
Shrimp balls — solid 4.0 Two large balls rolled in wonton ribbons (skin) and fried. The chili sauce that comes with it is interesting.
Steamed Pork & Shrimp dumplings — 4.0 Three per order eat these quickly, as they cool the skins become super sticky and have to be pulled apart with your fingers hey that’s o.k. use them.
Fried Tofu with Shrimp — 3.5 Three pieces of fried tofu that is kept warm and topped with shrimp. I decided to get the sauce on the side and shouldn’t have because I used all of it and found there wasn’t enough.
Roasted Pork and Duck — 2.5 The pork was so sweet it was like candy and sent it away never got to try the duck what a shame.
Chinese broccoli — 3.0 Was over cooked and the leafy ends were mushy, I was still able to eat the stalks. Ask for the red vinegar it only adds to the flavor of the broccoli.
Sponge cake — 5.0 Get it if you see it you see it. The cake is a huge yellow mass that is steamed and kept warm. I discovered this cake many years ago and really enjoy it, not overly sweet and big enough to share.
Cherry Jello — 3.5 I saw this go by and was curious, three different women had to figure out how to tell me what it was I felt bad and ordered some. The flavor is mild and had bits of cherries and raw coconut in it
Chrysanthemum tea (Flower tea) is tasty and it is offered sweet or natural which I prefer. The flavor of the tea went well with the food.
Obviously with all of the choices today I was here awhile and noticed that by two p.m. the crowd had thinned a bit and while it was still busy noticed that people were able to get a table in less than ten minutes. If you are in the area and looking for Dim Sum Golden House is worth a try.
