My wife and I went for a hike at Hollenbeck Canyon Preserve with our Samoyed. Little Did I know she had plans to lure me to a winery; enter Dulzura Winery at the Clark Ranch. We rolled up and Chester the Chesapeake Retriever/chocolate lab mix greeted us with some woofs. Dog friendly! In goes the Samoyed, my better half and myself. We begin our five tastings with whites to reds. Everything was terrific. Sarah, the lady of the house/winery is a chemist and her husband is the engineer-between the two of them they have crafted some great wines. Lots of terrific history here going back 140+ years in the family and San Diego. Soak it all in along with the views! We will be back. Definitely worth visiting and the wines are worth buying. Get a bottle for me please!

Ok, I was just out for a drive exercising the Spyder when I drove past this sign«Dulzura Vineyard and Winery» Tasting Room. I drove on another mile until I could turn around and head back. What a find! Dulzura? There is not supposed to be a vineyard here! First, the people, they are really friendly and nice. I was greeted, welcomed, the owners introduced themselves and shook my hand. Second, the wine: bold wines with full flavor. The nose on the Malbec is to die for. I was tempted to inhale it rather than drink it. If you really like wine, stop here and try it. The Cab, the Malbec, the Zin are 100%, no blends or varietal. BTW: each county in California allows wineries to blend a certain % of «other grapes» with the type stated on the label. Napa allows 10% other and San Diego allows 20% other. Dulzura is 100% what it states on the label! Take the ride out on the weekend, it’s worth it!
