I Loved this café! The people are extremely friendly. The food is AWESOME and the prices are very reasonable. This is a perfect slice of America and If anyone is near by, this is a definite place to stop to relax and enjoy a wonderful meal

I wanted a local spot for breakfast. This is a bare bones breakfast place. No frills just fantastic food. No special dishes they just make the standard breakfast dishes really good. They are incredibly friendly. It wasn’t crowded when we went so I expect to see it crowded next time after another 5 rating on Unilocal.Don’t wait go there now.

I can’t say enough great things about Harold and Cathy’s! This place is a complete gem. From the easy to get to location to the wonderful staff.
My extended family frequents this establishment multiple times a week. We like to joke that we have a room in the back to sleep! So much so that every Wednesday the ladies up front already know my order down pat (BLT&E on wheat with no mayo) and they even bring me a box each week knowing I always take half home. The service is just above and beyond. It’s the little things. :)

This place is super cute! I was surprised that it doesn’t open until 7 since it’s a breakfast joint… we got there about 6:50am and there were 4 other cars in the parking lot waiting for it to open. Good sign.
You walk up to the front and order, so make sure you know what you want! I had biscuits and gravy and my friend had a western omelette. The food was great and the coffee was, too. And I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the local old man conversations in the background. Waitress was really friendly and attentive.

Food is really good, Comfort food. The portions size is just right. Though always crowded the food is always worth the wait. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. If in the area and hungry for downhole southern breakfast you must try this spot you will be glad you did.

I work right down the street and have only recently tried their food. I’ve had the chicken salad sandwich and the bacon cheeseburger and it is something to brag about! One of the best burgers I’ve ever had and the fries are so deliciously seasoned. Amazing quality for the price — they’re going to become one of my go to lunch spots!

Hospitality, quality food, pretty cashiers. Awesome place. They close at 2 which means just breakfast and lunch. Get the burger if you go, it’s great. Their philly cheese steak is good too but for the price its kind of small IMO, Burger is way better of a deal.
Their home fries and eggs are always on point as well.

I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember. Not much has changed. The food is delicious (my fav is the roast beef supreme sandwich). Everyone is always very polite & helpful. Stephanie is my favorite :-) Oh, yeah… this place is spotless!!!

What a treat to find this modest mom and pop café not more than a half mile or so off 95 south of DC at the Dumphries VA exit. Home cooked breakfast and lunch beats anything — in taste and price — that you’d find in a fast food or other chain restaurant that travelers are often doomed to. Only regret is that they were out of cocoanut cream pie, which is a specialty.

Great food and warm atmosphere. The staff couldn’t be frendlier and you get large portions for not a large bill! :)

I came in today to check this place out. I’ve always driven by this café countless times and today I checked it out. When you come in, it has a nice homey feeling and very cozy. The staff is helpful and friendly, I said it was my first time here and they told me this is what was offered for breakfast and just take my time to order. I did a to go order of one of their breakfast specials: Home fries with Two eggs, steak and biscuits, it tastes amazing! No wonder people love coming here, especially during the lunch rush. Definitely will come here again (happy it’s nearby where I live) and try out their lunch specials.

LEO and Fire Departments are always there. Think about that, these guys know the good chow places.

Located on Route 1, Harold & Cathy is found in the island that divides Route 1 North and Route 1 South.
I’ve driven past this place many times, and my love of breakfast foods has always made me curious to try this place out. One morning, my girlfriend and I decided to try this place out before heading to Yorktown, VA. Luckily, she lives about a mile north of the restaurant, so it was convenient.
Upon arriving, I had little expectations. I expected it to be good, but what we stumbled upon was fantastic!
When you walk in, head to the counter to review the menu and order your food. The building is fairly small, so seating may be limited. The waitress even told us that the grill in the kitchen was pretty small.
We arrived around 7:15 am (15 minutes after opening) and there were already about 10 or more people seated and eating. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted. All I know is that I wanted some eggs, meat, and pancakes. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anything on the menu like that, specifically, so I ordered the short stack (2 pancakes) & meat (sausage), with an order eggs on the side. And of course, a cup of coffee, My girlfriend, on the other hand, ordered the sausage and biscuits.
We sat down, and about 10 minutes later, our food had arrived. Fast service, I love it!
The food looked pretty simple, but when I took that first bite of the pancakes, it was instantly in my top 3 of pancakes ever! They were fluffy, all around, with just a bit of crunchiness on the edges. The sausage and eggs were delicious, too! My girlfriend let me try some of her biscuits and gravy, and I can honestly say that that was the best biscuits and gravy I have ever tasted! The coffee was so delicious, as well. No cream, no sugar, but so good that I had about 5 cups!
Five stars for the great services and servers, the quick and delicious food, and the inexpensive meals!

I stopped in while on lunch. Ordered the lunch special Bacon cheeseburger and added a fried egg. When I got the food there was a big burger (California style), steak fries with spice on them, and pickle spear. Was very very good. Bacon was crispy, burger juicy, fries? I love fries, them joints were hittin. Paid bout $ 9 and was well worth it. They have good breakfast deals on the wall behind the counter. I’ll definitely going back.

I’ve always wanted to try this landmark diner in Dumfries. Very convenient if your traveling on route 1 in either direction. Very friendly staff take your order at the counter
The food is typical diner food and most menu options are around $ 8 or 9. There are daily specials and soup of the day.
Potato soup was thick but on the bland side. The Philly steak and cheese was not authentic and I would not order again. The salad was large and looked good. I think I would comeback for the breakfast and perhaps try them out again.
Slow to get food out of the kitchen due to giant phone order from local fire department.
They open at 7am and close after lunch and caters to a local crowd avoiding the many fast food options in the area.

This is a classic diner and the food was delicious. There is no frills to this place. It is a simple American menu where you order at the counter and sit down and they bring you your food. The taste and quality of the food is great. I had a cheeseburger. It tasted like a real home made burger to me and I loved it. The food is not for those who are on a diet or need special dietary choices.

I love this place. I have only had their breakfast, but it has always been delicious! Your order your food and take a seat, they bring it out to you, and then you pay when you are done. It’s self-​serve coffee, and the other drinks I think are filled by the staff (I’ve only had coffee.) I can never clear my plate bc there is usually so much food, but it has all been delicious. My now-​3year old loves it too. It can get crowded on the weekends, but I’ve always had a seat to eat at so I’m not too concerned.

This is a nice little greasy spoon joint. I had the Reuben and french fries. It was good. The place is super popular. The staff was very friendly.

This place is very small but offers a lot. It has breakfast food but you have to get there early. Lunch starts being served at 11 and i didn’t ask so I’m not sure if it’s breakfast all day. I got a bacon cheesburger though. It was really good. More than enough food with the fries and the chili i got as well. Service was fast and interesting.
