The Cake Guys

There are simply not enough stars to give The Cake Guys the rating they deserve! After several tastings with other vendors, I was a couple months from my wedding with no cake. We set up a tasting and they took it from there! We had SO many cake options at the tasting, so we could truly get an idea of what we would be serving. Once we chose flavors, they were so helpful in sketching and designing our cakes! They tweaked until absolutely perfect. And let me tell you. These cakes were STUNNING. When I arrived at my wedding venue, they were already there setting the cakes up and putting the topper in. I actually cried when I saw them! The flavors were incredible, the strawberries were amazing and such a fun treat, and I could not have asked for better service! My husband and I just had our top tier for our anniversary, and even that was just delicious! (I don’t even LIKE cake, and theirs is wonderful!) I cannot possibly recommend them enough with full confidence that everyone who uses them will get a beautiful, delicious cake, and truly enjoy the entire process!

Amazing cakes for a great price! If you want a cake that looks spectacular without having to compromise on taste or flavor, they’re your guys. They’ve worked with a lot of people with a lot of different budgets and always manage to find something to make the customer happy. I highly recommend them for all your important events. Please ignore the dramatic and hyperboloized 1 star reviews from the individuals who framed a miscommunication and unfortunate situation between the bride, groom, and bakery to sound like something out of a bad reality show.

The Cake Guys are amazing! We used them for our wedding in 2013 and we had such an amazing experience with them. Cake tasting was a lot of fun, we loved all the flavors they had to offer. Leia worked with us to help make our vision come to reality. We had a Tim Burton/​Halloween themed wedding. All of the details on the cake were perfect! I would recommend them to any one planning a wedding. Two and a half years later and people who were at our wedding still talk about how amazing the cake was. It was definitely the centerpiece of the reception!

My wedding was very important to my family and I and we wanted to make sure to give our guests the best possible experience ever. To us, the cake meant a lot. We not only wanted the cake to be beautiful, but we wanted it to taste spectacular.
We made a tasting appointment a year ago and it was our only bridal cake tasting appointment we had because the appointment went so well. Not only was my vision quickly drawn on a piece of paper by Leia, but the entire execution was amazing. We ordered a wedding cake and a Groom’s cake through The Cake Guys and it was the best decision we ever made!
When I saw the cakes for the first time at the reception, I was blown away. The wedding cake was so beautiful and every single detail was of perfection. When my husband and I cut into the cake and tasted it, it was the most delicious and moist cake I’ve ever had in my life. We chose the best flavor and it was way better than at the tasting, which I didn’t think was possible.
We got rave reviews from our guests on the beauty of the wedding cake! The cake smelled and tasted heavenly and it was almost like a dream eating the amaretto and butter cream goodness.
The Groom’s cake was particular in design, as we wanted the cake to symbolize my husband’s (Joe) passion of mountain climbing. Chad emailed me back and forth on getting the perfect photo for the face and gear in order to make it look as much like Joe as possible. We not only loved the cake’s design, but we loved the taste. The chocolate ganache was absolutely divine!
I am so thankful for having the opportunity to work with Chad and Leia of The Cake Guys and highly recommend them to anyone planning their special wedding day!

The cake was good enough considering the Cake Guys are a cheaper bakery in Dallas. The one star is for their professionalism and integrity, or lack thereof. We ordered a dairy free grooms cake for our wedding, however, the cake had some dairy in it resulting in an allergic reaction for me (the groom). After trying to contact the Cake Guys multiple times over the last two months via email, text, phone call, and even stopping by their location in person and leaving a note; they have refused to return communication. Their prices may fit your budget, but I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere as Chad and Edward are spineless and lack the appropriate ethics of business holders.

These guys saved our wedding and we cannot thank them enough!
We were one of the couples stranded by a local bakery who closed shop and skipped town without notice back in late April 2015. With our wedding only 2.5 weeks away, we were really concerned that the cake that we planned to have would not happen because of the short notice given to us. I asked my friends and several had their weddings done by the Cake guys and they could not be happier with them. I noticed on their website that they were booked solid a month in advance, but I called in to see if there was anything they could do. They answered and stated that they were trying to help as many stranded couples as they could and that they could fit us in if we met with them to get the details all worked out. We had a meeting later that night and we were able to sleep easy knowing that our wedding would have a cake once again.
They were able to make a beautiful cake exactly how my wife and I wanted it and it was absolutely delicious too. The wedding guests raved about the cake and honestly it was a better cake than what we originally ordered from the other bakery. Thank you guys so much!

I get married a few months ago and LOVED my cake. It was beautiful & tasted amazing.
When we first scheduled the appointment with Chad we showed up on time but unfortunately he forgot. Since we were already in the area for another wedding appointment it was not that big of a deal & he did apologize. We understand things happen so we scheduled for another day. When we finally met with Chad for our tasting we really got the impression that he was honest and wanted to get us the best cake for the best price. I had a specific cake in mind and Chad made it happen for an amazing price! My MOH was on top of things and took the coupons that are offered on their website, so I recommend everyone to visit their website & read through the FAQs. The flavors were all good (standard cake flavors) but weren’t exactly what I wanted so Chad asked what flavors I would like to try and made some additional samples for me to try on a different day, which were all amazing.
Our cake was really more than I expected, we didn’t have to worry about hiring a florist to decorate as The Cake Guys happily took care of it for us. The cake was moist & delicious we loved the flavors we chose. I would definitely recommend The Cake Guys to all brides.

The Cake Guys did an absolutely incredible job on our wedding cake. It was delicious, and the cake was beautiful. They truly exceeded even our highest expectations. Can’t wait until we get to eat the top tier for our one year anniversary!

Ohhhh do I have a full belly! Well I love that this place tells you to do your research and get your coupons ahead of time. You book the day of and you save a ton of money. So I would say do your cake tasting at other places first then come here with the coupons and book the same day! If you use the coupons it’s definitely less than other places I’ve been to. Now the taste. You have to see for it yourself. I’m not a big dessert person but I like cake and I like cake that tastes amazing and even if I ate a lot I don’t feel like crap afterwards. The cake here is amazing. Probably the best cake I’ve ever tasted BUT I felt so heavy afterwards and I didn’t like that. I’ve had cake from other places where I’ve had a lot and still feel okay so that’s what I am comparing it to. But definitely give them a try to see if it’s for your liking! The people here are amazing and helpful and they have beautiful displays of cakes for you to get inspiration from!

My wedding cake was everything I wanted and more. They even delivered it 150 miles away for a relatively small charge. There are so many different options to choose from and they can do anything! I was so pleased. Their cakes taste so fresh and so good. Like no other wedding cake I have ever had at any wedding. I am so sad that they are only doing weddings now because they used to have cupcake happy hour and also custom made my Baylor graduation cake and my husbands UT graduation cake, but I respect them for doing what is best for their business. I would recommend them to anyone planning a wedding. Pick the cake guys! They are the best!!!

The cakes and cupcakes are so wonderful. Not only are they moist and delicious, but the prices are really affordable for such great quality. A must try.

Love this place. I planned my Dallas wedding from out of state and couldn’t have worked (on our cakes) with anyone else. Cake Guys is so organized, thorough, and seriously has their stuff together.
I read almost everything on their website, had all the coupons printed, and had even emailed back and forth with one of the owners (Chad) before my fiancée (now husband) and I went in for our tasting. I wanted to incorporate gold color into my cake without spending the extra $ for a custom cake. Chad was awesome at explaining my gold options and made several suggestions. The woman who helped us at our tasting was surprised by how organized and ready we were, but that is what made the tasting even more enjoyable: we could spend the time truly enjoying the cakes and picking details.
We ended up ordering three cakes at our tasting: a 5-​tier bride’s cake E (red velvet), a Groom’s cake C (german chocolate — if they only give you a standard chocolate sample at your tasting, ask for the german chocolate too!), and a 9 inch round white chocolate raspberry. We called that one our «couple’s cake» :)
After I ordered I had several questions about the size of the plates under the cakes so that I could order cake stands. They were always very great about responding to my emails.

We used the Cake Guys for our wedding cake and groom’s cake and were very disappointed with the entire experience.
I had selected my cake and had a picture before we arrived to do a tasting. It was explained that doing one of their packages would be the most cost effective way to get the cake I wanted. We selected a package and paid a $ 200 upcharge in order to modify the package wedding cake to look like the picture. I emailed them the picture twice and called to confirm it was received before our wedding. (I really disliked the floor model and wanted to make sure that the cake looked like the picture I brought in).
Fast forward to our wedding day… the cake that was delivered… was the floor model cake. It looked nothing like the picture I sent them. Nothing.
The groom’s cake: we paid for strawberries to be decorated… they looked like a child made them. Sloppy and scribbled. Guests even commented on them being badly done!
I woke up the day after our wedding and contacted Cake Guys. They were unapologetic and blamed a miscommunication in the shop with our contract. I had a copy of the contract… it had written all over it that we paid an upcharge and that a picture would be emailed.
They credited the $ 200 upcharge the next week, I paid full price for the floor model that I didn’t want.

UPDATE: I’m stunned! I sign into Unilocal and I see The Cake guys reply for the first time. I’m NOT and NEVER was a wedding planner. It makes me wonder how many cakes these guys screw up if they can’t even keep them straight. I also doubt Unilocal would give out my personal info. to some baker, but lying is par for the course with these guys. This reply from The Cake Guys brings me right back to what it was like to deal with them. The customer is always WRONG with them.
In the grand scheme of things, nobody died. However, we paid too much (FULL PRICE, NO discount) for the wrong cake. It was the only negative thing about my wedding, but now The Cake Guys are just an old family joke to us. Go somewhere that will treat you special on your special day.
P. S. It turns out they were on reality TV after I wrote that review! That explains it. Drama, drama, and more drama.

This review is just for the Sample Saturday experience — we haven’t seen, received, tasted our wedding cake yet and won’t until December, so my review will be updated to reflect the actual product LOL
I don’t know what to say about the Cake Guys except WOW. I know they’re opening up a location in the Oak Lawn area in Dallas, but we were at the main location in Duncanville — loved being able to actually see what the cakes look like, they are REALLY talented in what they can do!
Now, on to the tasting — Lord Jesus, their cake is AMAZING! Rod and I both were in hog heaven (literally) dipping and licking and tasting CAKE :-) It was fun! LOL! I liked that they left us alone, but were still available if we had any questions. I’ve found that a lot of places will stand over you and insert their opinion on what you should do/​think, etc but our young lady didn’t. She checked on us, answered questions, gave her opinion when I asked and then let us talk and discuss what we wanted together.
Word of advice — read their website. Completely. They have NUMEROUS coupons available that will help you save $$$$$ on your cake. Seriously, I think we saved at least $ 300 on upgrades, customization and delivery just by printing coupons from the site — AND they even have hidden coupons but I’m not going to say where, just read the site and you’ll find them!
I’m excited to have the Cake Guys creating the cakes for our wedding and I can’t wait until December to see (and taste) the final product! :-)

Ok I was disappointed cause the cupcakes for 1 $ was a deal that was no more. But they had slices of cake for 2.50 $ so I got the chocolate fudge cake. Man I was just taking away, first of this cake tasted like it should be in a 5 star restaurant. Man it was just so moist, the flavor got more intense as you at the end of it. Soaked in chocolate, the frosting was just authentic and not pasty. Man it was good i come back for that slice any day! Over a restaurant dessert. Didn’t try the other flavors ill let you know next time.

The Cake Guys were referred to me by my wedding planner.
Chad, the owner, canceled our first appointment due to a personal matter, so I reschuled. I confirmed the new appointment date and time via email (the only way you can contact this man because his phone numbers are not in service) and then my wedding planner confirmed the appointment with his assistant.
My fiancé scheduled off work, his mother drove over an hour to join us, and Chad never showed up. We waited at the Dallas location for over 30 minutes.
I emailed Chad to voice my frustration and point out his lack of professionalism and lack of consideration. He NEVER apologized. I am appreciative that we realized how this individual operates his business before working with him.
He can take his cake and put where the sun doesn’t shine.

My wife and I had our wedding cakes done by the Cake Guys.
The cakes were incredible. My wife found the cake guys very easy to work with, and was equally surprised to learn that Chad (the baker she was working with) would be featured on a reality show about baking cakes with the «Cake Boss»!
I personally didn’t watch the show (I’m not a huge reality TV nut), but this made our cake even more exciting to me… and I hear it was a conversation piece at our wedding.
All reality television aside, our cake was amazing. For our wedding cake, we got the whtie cake with dulce de leche and for my grooms cake (which my wife designed for me) was a chocolate cake with peanut butter. Both were awesome – it was hard to determine which one was better.
Grooms — make sure you go to the cake tasting with your future brides. Man… that was awesome, and probably one of the more fun parts of wedding planning.
In any case, I would definitely recommend. It’s great to be able to say honestly that our wedding cakes were the best looking and tasting wedding cakes we’ve ever had (and we’ve been to a LOT of weddings.)

Of course after the great job on the birthday cake, major fail on trying to get them for a wedding. You’d think a customer for a wedding would be worth at least a return phone call.

Reviewing their cakes after having a couple slices of two cakes from a recent 40^th birthday celebration!
Appearance & taste: 1 was a chocolate cake with a large Longhorn symbol on top! It also had chocolate covered strawberries on the sides & front of cake! Very nice looking.
2^nd cake was a 3 tiered cake with the «lopsided» look, mardi gras type colors, 3 big feathers & a silver initial adorned the top. It looked great!!! I was a bit leery since it had fondant on part/​most of the outside and it was lemon flavor. Normally not my favorite flavor. OMG! They proved me wrong! I took one bite and was in cake heaven! Please note I did NOT eat the fondant! The center ICING was DELICIOUS & the lemon cake was so MOIST! Usually I like a balanced ratio of icing with each piece/​bite of cake. Even after I devoured the center icing with each cake bite, the leftover cake part was still great without icing!!! Yum!
Hopefully I will get a chance to have more!!!
