Love this place! Servers are friendly, beer is yummy. The taco place in the parking lot is awesome. We love Sunday beer/taco day with Nicole!

Stopped in for a beer Saturday afternoon of the Memorial Day weekend. The guy behind the bar was great! Very nice, very friendly. I ordered the Imperial Red and sat down to enjoy. Only stopped in for one, but was enjoying myself so much, I had their barley wine. Fantastic! Absolutely love this place. Their patio is a great place to hang and enjoy a brew. The two beers I had were great. Wish I lived closer, as if stop by often. Only giving this review four stars, as there’s always room for improvement. Otherwise, it would be five!

Nice little place. Solid, flavorful beers made by what appears to be a pretty nice group of people. Would very much like to go back and give another taster a try soon.

Love Deception! I’ve tried just about all of their beers and they’re all great. My favorite is the Imperial Red, so good. Great beer, atmosphere and really friendly staff. Cool that you can see them when they’re brewing too!

This is a great little Brewery just outside of McMinnville where we were staying for a long weekend. We figured why not stop in while taking a break from wine tasting? It’s a good thing we did. I ordered a beer taster which included my choice of beers. I selected several on the advice of the bartender and was not disappointed. My wife ordered just a single IPA and also left happy. We didn’t try to order any food although I don’t think they had food available on the premises. We were just there for the brief visit while out wine tasting. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

They don’t seem to be doing food anymore, but La Sierra across the street will deliver on foot and you can bring in your own. I’ve been through pretty much everything they brew in my 2 spread apart visits and am unimpressed by their beers. Pretty much 2 – 3 star beers. None seem very bad, but none really rise above average. Given that there isn’t any competing brewery within a couple of miles, perhaps average beer is good enough to get by or even do well. Their IPA isn’t very bitter and Willamette/Cascade along with Summit gives you neither an American IPA nor a British one. The CDA has really no hop presence and is more of a stout. Last visit we tried the Belgian Strong Blonde and it didn’t finish dry or showcase any significant yeast driven flavors, and we tried the Rose Hip Saison which demonstrated little of the peppery and slightly fruity flavor you would expect. I also find their beers tasting much less bitter than you would expect for their listed IBUs. Good if you don’t like hoppy beers. Not sure if this is water, low attenuation, not utilizing ingredients or equipment ideally or what. A major complaint we had was the massive number of fruit flies inundating the tap room. I realize fruit flies are intensely attracted to beer, but something needs to be done about what Deception calls the«beer angels». They are not angelic floating in your beer. Having coasters might help, so that customers could cover their beer in between swigs. The bartenders have been nice, and the building looks nice for a brewery taproom. Parking is in back of the building so you have to walk around to the front entrance. Overall, average to slightly below average middle of the road beers but in a great location right on 99W in Dundee. Hopefully they will improve. I’ll be back at some point when I get the urge for a beer and can’t wait until getting to the coast or Portland.

We stopped in to fill a growler on a Friday night after driving by dozens of times resolving to one day stop in and try the beer. One night we finally did, but we had a kiddo in the car so I stayed put and my friend ran in to fill up our growler. While at the bar, she opened her wallet and found her ID missing. She said to the bartender(who had not actually asked for it yet) that she must have left it at the restaurant we had just been at, then ran back outside to tell me. We switched spots and I went in for the fill. I approached the bar and announced that was my glass growler still sitting behind the bar and asked to have it filled with the pale ale. The bartender asked me what happened to my friend, and I remarked that she had left her ID at the restaurant we had just eaten at so I was gong to take care of the growler. In front of the other patrons at the bar he looked right at me, snickered, and said that’s not what she just said. I looked him in the eye and said that’s exactly what she just told you. He argued that she said something about leaving it with her friend… I pointed out that I was the friend and she had told him she was sending me in. He rolled his eyes at me and said he needed my ID. I handed it over. He muttered something about OLCC and filled the growler, and off I went. I left feeling like I had just been bullied. I don’t know if what we experienced was the absolute worst version of making small talk I have ever witnessed, or if this guy actually thinks it’s ok to talk to people that way. We got home and shared the beer among the three of us, and unfortunetly no one liked it. I’ve had the Apricot cream ale before and liked it just fine but the Pale ale which was freshly poured and chilled was bitter and I did not enjoy the aftertaste. Overall we did not have a good experience and have no reason to try them again.

It’s my own damn fault that I didn’t catch my beertendresses name(other reviewers hint that it might be Nicole?) but let me take this review to single her out, she’s great. I mean, I didn’t talk to her that much but from what I heard she could talk to anyone, at length, and do so in a fun, relatable fashion. No I don’t have a crush on her! She’s just fantastic.

Awesome spot. Popped in for a few brews and enjoyed all of them! We had previously had their IPA at a pub in PDX and liked it. We did a flight of the first four. The apricot cream was yummy(and apparently recently won an award), the pale was delish(and the husband’s favourite), the IPA was still very good, and the CDA was yummy as well. We had a pint and I had the imperial red. I think that was my favourite out of the bunch. We skipped on trying out the darker beers because we spent all day in the sun and felt it was too warm out for a dark beer. We will just have to go back.

Great beer and perfect atmosphere! Dundee needed this place. In a town of nothing but wine this place is a refreshing change. Love it!

Checked this place out yesterday, Monday March 9. Came in for some drinks and food. I had the best cider I’ve ever had, it wasn’t sweet and drank more like a beer than anything else I’ve had which was nice. It was the citizen. The other beers at the table were given good ratings although I didn’t try them. I ordered the fries and veggie plate, both were good but the veggies could have used more tatziki to go with how many veggies went with. The pasta was given good reviews. And the pot pie was okay but a little too brothy. The bartender said it was his favorite thing but the last time he tried it he thought the same. Maybe they changed something and need to go back… Nice relaxing and small area. Good outdoor seating and there was roll up doors so inside was nice and breezy, which for a warm March day was nice. Will definitely be back to drink more.

After a few hours on the range, I dropped into this little brewery on 99 in downtown Dundee with no expectations and an open mind. I had passed it many times, but had a plan that day to make a stop. Co-owner Ben was friendly and helpful, and shared information on each of his offerings that are borne of their 4-barrel on-site brewery. I have a special spot in my heart for fruit beers, apricot especially. I think it was all those years of harvesting I endured as a farmer’s son in the Central Valley of Cali. So, I might be a bit more critical when it comes to cot-beers. As I gave Ben’s a try, I was happily surprised by its smoothness and flavor. Matter of fact I liked it so much, I bought a Deception growler and brought a gallon home. The other selections that I tried from the tasting flight were also good. The stand-out was their Scottish Ale, just behind the cot, of course. I’m glad I was finally able to stop. My range days have just been kicked up a notch.

Full disclosure… I have a soft spot for Dundee having worked harvest at Argyle Winery and my folks lived in Dundee for several years. Just having a brewery in Dundee makes me very happy. This is my first visit to Deception. I’ll finish my IPA and then suck back into the hellish traffic to Portland. The pub is cosy, the menu slight. Outdoor seating is a plus. But its right on 99W. So you get the traffic sounds and vehicle CO2 emissions. Thank god they have shade! So stop in to taste the beer. The IPA has a nice grassy aroma, average bitter notes, and a pleasant lemon finish. There are five taps, all deception beers. What’s interesting is that they have an Apricot Cream Ale on tap. Which, I just found out, won first place at the Oregon Brews &BBQ brewfest last week in McMinnville! Look… it’s not a special trip outing. But when you’re out wine tasting, or heading to/from the coast, or looking for a solid beer around Newberg, Dundee, or McMinnville– you can’t beat Deception. Cheers to beers.

Stopped in on the way back from the coast as traffic blew and we wanted something to eat. It’s wine country and tasting rooms don’t have any kind of real food so when we saw the sign that said«brewery», we immediately turned in as in Oregon Brewery also means some kind of pub grub. Beers were really good, and the Wild Boar pot pie with a side salad was perfect to split as we didn’t want a huge meal. They seem to be just getting set up, but it already had a good feel. Would definitely stop back through here again, especially after time goes on since the place will transform into something even better.

First I’m going to call out David H as being a douche because when my husband and I went here, we were immediately impressed. «Prison chique trays?» It’s a TASTINGTRAY in a microbrewery. I don’t know what else you serve tasters on or in, since most places serve on paddles or just a placemat. We drove through Dundee on the way to McMinnville to check out the wineries and saw that a simple sign that said«BREWERY.» We love beer. We live in Portland, how could we not? So we stopped by and had a pint(well, I had the pint, my husband go the sampler). It’s a small place with a very limited selection(four beers on tap only, but the brewery is only a month old so that’s okay, and I’m sure once they add more, I can bump it up to more). Anyway, I had only the apricot cream ale since I’m not partial to the heavier IBU stuff that is the norm in the Northwest. It’s a great light, low-hopped fruit beer which is great for the summer. I can’t speak to the other three beers on tap(the Cascadian Dark Ale or CDA, IPA, and a pale ale), but my husband was very impressed for the quality of the beer despite the youth of the brewery.(Who am I to argue with my husband since he’s tasted over 1,700 beers to date. The man knows his beers and often advise friends and other beer patrons) The bartender was also the owner who talked about some of the beers he had planned for release along with his own history(how he picked the name and how long he had home brewing for). Very nice and he was just the right amount of chatty. The space is nice too. I’m glad to find an alternative to the wine heavy region so we’ll be sure to come back in the future!

A wonderfully brewed discovery amid a wine dominated stretch of highway. The Menage a Hop IPA is a 3 way hopper delivering a wallop punch to your taste buds! Their cold ale coupled with an abridged selection of lightly dished foods will satisfy the driver fatigued and wine tour worn highway adventurer in many of us. This place is new and has potential!
