Specialties

Cave Springs is an eclectic resort on the Sacramento River with over five acres of various types of accommodations, activities, and natural attractions. There is no restaurant, bar, or golf course which is part of the reason we are so affordable. The Cabins have the historic charm, location, and kitchens. The Rooms are more traditional with TV, DVD, Microwave, Refrigerator, Tub/Shower, and A/C. However, the high beam ceiling, natural Hemlock Wood, and view of the old growth forest lawn make them unique. The Manufactured Homes around the park add more diversity. The big ones can have several bedrooms and bathrooms, decks, large living rooms, and even a few with fireplaces and hot tubs. Off site and mostly along the River, individual houses are available as Vacation Rentals. Perfect for family gatherings or groups of friends, Cave Springs still has a feeling of privacy for a personal escape or a romantic tryst. Our specialty is finding just the right place for you.

History

Established in 1923.

Cave Springs started out as Browns Motor Lodge which was built on an old Indian campsite in 1923 – 24. Ted Towendolly, the last Tepee dweller in this area, actually set up here while he helped build the cabins. As children, we found arrowhead pieces all the time. My folks and their partners bought and named it Cave Springs in 1946. The War was over and everyone was traveling. Mom and Aunt Joalice cleaned cabins till 5:30 that first day! Dad and Uncle Jonny thought they were going to do repairs in the morning and fish every evening. What I remember is being lucky if Dad would go fishing with us on opening day. He worked round the clock. I started cleaning cabins when I was ten, but my main job was to play. I really did work only in the morning and went fishing, inner tubing, and swimming in the river all afternoon. Thanks Dad! College, Vietnam, a short professional career, and Belinda and I took over in 1980 so we could to raise our family here too.

Meet the Manager

Sylvia W.

Manager

Before we all helped build the new church in Dunsmuir, we traveled to Mt Shasta for services every Sunday where the Manley’s became best friends. Sylvia Manley and I were two years old. So when she and her husband Carl decided to give up a hectic business in San Diego and return to beautiful Dunsmuir, It just seemed like having another family member when she started running the front desk eight years ago. Trained in Opera, She is actually a fabulous vocalist and Carl is one of the most talented and accomplished musicians I can think of. You might catch him performing at local restaurants and you can buy Sylvia’s CDs at local stores. Sylvia has a wealth of information at her fingertips and knows all of the secret places to go because she was raised here too. But what Sylvia does really well is make you feel special when you call to talk with her. A few people in the world just have that gift.
