History

Established in 1997.

Molly and Alex Mickel founded Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Trail Tours in 1997, in Durango, CO. Mild to Wild focuses on family, safety, and fun, all of which they have incorporated from the values of their family. Their philosophy centers around providing superior customer service, and creating lasting memories for each guest’s vacation. They set out with the goal to become the largest and most reputable outdoors adventure company in the Southwest. Since then, Mild to Wild has grown and expanded; operating in Arizona, Colorado, and Utah, with 27 different trip options. Although Mild to Wild has grown, the company has maintained their values allowing them to receive the highest number of repeat and referral customers in the Southwest.

We bought the raft and rail package from Mild to Wild, and decided on the lower Animas river, half day trip since we have an 8 and 15 year old. Everyone was so nice, and had detailed information about all the options from booking (Tucker) to check in. The raft trip was scenic and fun, with a class III Rapids section about halfway. There were several rafts going from MtW and we got Max for our tour guide. He was definitely the best! He engaged everyone on the raft, had a great sense of humor and expertly navigated the river. I would do it again!

Our family did a half day lower Animas rafting trip with «stone cold» Phil and we had a blast! It’s beautiful scenery and an easy ride mostly floating. We had some first timers who were a little scared but we felt very safe with stone cold navigating and no one fell out lol! We had a nice snack break in the middle and all of the guides were so helpful and friendly. We bought some great photos of our group on the river that they sell at the store. This was my 4th trip with mild to wild and they never disappoint! They have so many trip options I know we will book again with them

Great business and they do it all with a smile. Rented kayaks and came back the next day to do a rafting trip. Ellen was our guide and she kept us safe while we had a total blast. Will definitely be back for more fun and adventure, they have trips of every length and level and are very aware of individual needs. Go for a ride with Ellen!

Three of us did the Lower Piedra on the 8th of June. Very gnarly. We had a fantastic time, mainly due to the staff. Kudos to Kyle Stewart, our guide, and O’Ryan Chapman, our safety kayaker. I highly recommend this trip.

Had an awesome experience rafting down the Animas with Nickel as our guide. He was a pretty cool dude, and he made our first time rafting very enjoyable. I would strongly recommend anyone coming into Durango to go to Mild to Wild. Check them out; I promise it’ll be a memorable experience.

Our Boy Scout troop just took the «Salt Camp Out Trip» on the Salt River in AZ with a group of over 30 people. Ages went from 11 to +60 with most of us never being on a white water trip and everyone had a blast. The service was EXCELLENT!!! The guides were EXCELLENT!!! Everyone left wanting to do this again. The guides were very knowledgeable and entertaining.
I cannot say enough about what a great time the boys and adults had on this trip. I have already passed your information on to another troop. Thank you very much for the great memories.

We went to Mild to Wild in Durango, CO. My mom and I traveled there with 3 teenagers. We choose to do the rafting on the longer trip. Our guide Aaron, was a lot of fun and was patient and kind to the kids. He made a fun experience even more fun. We went through the rapids without a hitch. The kids had fun with the water squirters, creating fun between the other rafts with kids and kids at heart in them.
We all had a great time. One of the best experiences and memories were created. Thank you Aaron and Mild to Wild! We look forward to meeting you again!

Had a great time on the half-​day on the Lower Animus in Durango. The ride was definitely on the mild side, which was good for our family of novices. Our guide Robin was great. She really helped our reluctant 10-​year old daughter feel at ease to the point that the two of them were literally swimming down the river at the end of the tour. Great inaugural rafting experience.

We got a raft all to ourselves and had a great time. Our guide Zach was awesome. He grew up in town so had lots of info about town and some good jokes. We did the full day Lower Animas which was perfect for us because it was my daughters first time rafting. Not to many big rapids but a lovely float through town. Very professional company and everyone was very nice.

We had an amazing ride on the lower Animas with Jean (our guide) and Mild 2 Wild. It was my mothers first rafting trip at 65 years old. Needless to say she was very nervous but by the time we were done she wanted to do it again! Had a great experience. The rapids were a little dull but Our guide Cameron was the best at telling us history, jokes and taking us to places to have fun. When we did hit the class 3, he was calm and celebrated with us. Thanks Mild to Wild and Cameron!

We did the ½ day San Miguel River class II-​III trip with our family of four. We all fit in one raft with our guide John in the back. He made the trip perfect, eased all of my safety concerns quickly. All of the 3 guides were highly experienced. The scenery was great while the rapids kept us highly entertained. We will definitely call them again next time we’re lucky enough to come back to Telluride. We all had a blast!

Went to Mild to Wild on my birthday looking for something different to do. Ended up on a 4×4 with a family of 4 (including 2 teenage boys) and our guide/​driver Sesh. During the drive out Sesh was very engaging and learned what everyone’s interest were, so that while we were touring the LA Platta Canyon, he was able to point out things of interest to everyone. My particular interest was waterfalls and Sesh made it a point to stop at a couple to allow me to take photos. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend Mild to Wild or Sesh to anyone.

Even if you only have a couple of hours you should do this rafting trip. I had a blast! History and adrenaline — great Animas River with some smooth and some rapids! It was beautiful and full of laughter and fun. Great time had by me. I went by myself! No regrets! I’ll come here next trip for a longer excursion! Thanks guys!

Our experience with Mild to Wild was awesome! We rafted the Upper Piedra with amazing scenery and Class 4 rapids, which was perfect for our 13 year old adventurous son.
The guides were super friendly, knowledgable and enthusiastic which added to the fun! We stopped mid-​way for lunch. The guides prepared a great lunch and built a fire for us to warm up.
All-​in-​all, it was a fabulous experience! I highly recommend it.

Had a great time river rafting the Lower Animas. This was perfect since we had our 5 and 11 year old with us. Just enough excitement for them but definitely nothing crazy. Our guide Jeb was great. We hope to come back without the kids and do the upper Animas… this one was a little mild for hubby and I. This trip is great for any age and fitness level just don’t expect much of an adrenaline rush on the lower Animas. This company is very organized and top notch! Very safety oriented.
