Counting House is a modern restaurant helmed by Executive Chef Josh Munchel. A showcase for high-quality seasonal ingredients, Counting House presents a global perspective on regional dishes and celebrates North Carolina’s rich heritage of fresh seafood with menus that feature rotisserie and roasting techniques. The bar and lounge is a welcoming place to taste innovative house-made cocktails, sip aperitifs, sample local craft brews, and explore broad bourbon and wine lists. Located inside 21c Museum Hotel Durham, Counting House combines contemporary design with historic details highlighting the building’s original terrazzo floors and arched windows and rotating exhibitions of contemporary art carry over from the adjoining hotel into the restaurant space.

Joe L.
Manager
Joe joined 21c Museum Hotels in 2012 and has held management positions at both Metropole at 21c Cincinnati and Proof on Main at 21c Louisville. Joe brings with him 18 years of experience from all across the restaurant industry. Whether serving up pints as a bartender at a hole in the wall Irish pub, working as a craft beer distributer or earning his Certified Sommelier designation with the Master Court of Sommeliers, Joe is nerdy about all things wine, beer and hospitality. His passion shines as he works to create memorable dining experiences for each Counting House guest.
