Flooring By Design

Maybe if you’re going to have your business plastered all over your car, you should drive a little more responsibly. You almost caused a collision this morning while you were weaving in and out of traffic and speeding. When you drive carelessly in a vehicle with your company name on it, it makes your company look careless.

I had new floors installed and existing flooring upstairs and downstairs refinished by this company (Flooring by Design out of Durham, NC) (approx. 2500 square feet of hardwood flooring). I would NOT RECOMMEND. Overall, we have lovely floors; however, getting there with this comapny was a B**CH, excuse my French. Their sales man, Jon Benitez, was unprofessional. He is a salesman by every dirty meaning of the word. I was not aware they used subs until after I hired them. Upon walk through, I had a hole in my floor and Jon told me «it was character» and when I told him it was not character and needed to be fixed, he proceeded to verbally assault me and my husband, threatened us that if we did not pay him in full before he walked through the door he «would make it difficult for us.» It took multiple phone calls/​texts to the owner Chris and 3 trips out to get the problem fixed — a $ 200 fix by Jon’s own words. Now my sister, who had them install flooring in her entire downstairs is having her floors lift/​ripple and now they are telling her it’s her problem.

Heath and his installers worked hard to get our carpet in and installed. From the day they measured, to payment, to installation was three business days.
The carpet looks great and our house is on the market!

I work for a company that uses many large commercial companies to do their flooring. I got a incredible deal on Shaws carpet through one of our vendors, however living in Durham I wanted to use a local business to support the community and also was afraid that I would not get great customer care after the job was done. After shopping around I decided on Flooring By Design as they were incredibly personable and were very helpful in helping me decide on the carpet that best fit my needs. I suffer from a nerve disease so finding a carpet that was kind on my feet was crucial. They came in and installed the carpet very fast and I was very pleased, however since completion of the job and after they got my payment they are unresponsive. The Shaws carpet I got is supposed to be stain resistant and EVERYTHING leaves a mark, even Vaseline and other simple products. I called several times and finally got a response that they would «mail me the instructions on cleaning». I tried everything in the instructions and even bought a carpet cleaner. Nothing has worked. I have e-​mailed and called and sent pictures showing how stained up my carpet is and nobody will respond to me. I am not a messy person so to see brand new carpet that I saved up for look gross is frustrating. It makes me wish I would have gone with the other company where I would have saved $ 350. I hate to say it, I guess it is typical, but Flooring By Design is just another company who once they get your money they could care less about any issues you have. Makes me sad. I make very little money and thought I was paying for customer service. I should have saved my money and went with the cheaper company.
