Don’t waste your time or money! Food is bland, stale and overpriced. The big loud mouth guy is thoroughly obnoxious and foul mouthed. There are MANY good restaurants in Durham but this is NOT one of them. Move along…

One word: calzone. Good gracious, it was delicious! And $ 11, you can’t beat it — especially with a GoPlaySave bogo coupon! Take out was quick and easy and the calzone was basically a pizza folded in half with the freshest veggies and tastiest cheese combo you could imagine. We’ve already been talking about our next visit — on Wednesday when they do trivia! :) You’ve won me over, Tomato Jake’s!

Tomato Jake’s is a great pizza place located near Southpoint mall. They have some really good cheese steaks as well and serve beer on tap. My favorite is the mafia meats pizza which has all of their meat toppings included their homemade meatball crumbles so good! They also have tv’s set up so you can watch the games here as well. They have a trivia night on Tuesdays that gets pretty packed but is defintely a good time to bring a group and team up for some trivia. They also deliver which is great! Friendly staff as well. They also have one of those new Coca Cola freestyle machines which are awesome!

Had a long day– working in the area and not from around here… super hungry super early and ordered delivery to my hotel… ordered a salad and some meatballs. Well, meatballs were burnt and not hot– salad had no dressing. I’m so upset right now. I tipped well too… not happy. I was probably one if the 1st orders of the day… no excuse.

I’ve ordered Tomato Jake’s a few times and have generally liked their pizza. It hasn’t been outstanding, but it’s been satisfying. Three times over the last three weeks I have specifically ordered the 10″ pizza and have requested pepperoni on half of the pizza. This hasn’t been a problem at all any time I called. However today when I called I was told that they don’t allow you to do half toppings on any of the small size pizzas. I told her that this hasn’t been a problem the last times I have done so and she passed the phone to the manager, Jake. When I explained the situation to Jake, he defensively told me that I was the only customer in history to have half toppings on the 10″ pizza since they never do that. I find this very hard to believe since the staff so readily made this a practice before. After this he said that he would make it for me but it would be the last time as if it was a burden. At this point, I was ready to just cancel ordering the pizza but because I had my mind set on having one I went ahead and gave him my order. After ordering it took one hour and 15 minutes for my pizza to be delivered. It ended up tasting well, but the poor customer service makes me hesitant of ordering again.

This is the hub’s and my go-to pizza choice, especially when we want to pick up something to-go. Most of the time we like to keep it classic and get a pepperoni pizza. I can’t really count how many pizzas we have eaten from here over the years, but two dozen is probably a good estimate. A couple of times we have felt simply«meh» about the pizza, but some days, anywhere you go, things can be «meh.» We once ordered some individual slices to be warmed up and ate them in the restaurant. They did not reheat well, and we told Jake this. We didn’t want a refund or anything, and we were happy enough with the slices to eat them all, but we knew Jake would want our feedback. He did appreciate it, and he said if that ever happened again to let him know. While you may not expect it from a pizza place, they make really good wings. The pieces are big and meaty, and the buffalo sauce is very flavorful. For years we have also gathered here to gorge on post-competition carbs of beer and pizza with CrossFit friends. They have ample seating for everyone. I’m glad that we have Tomato Jake’s as our neighborhood pizza place!

We hadn’t been to this place before. Reviews seemed pretty mixed but it’s close to our house so we thought we’d give it a try. We ordered the Tuesday special — XL two topping pizza for $ 16. I also ordered some lemon pepper wings to try. They rang our order wrong, not giving us the special price($ 3 more) but corrected it when it was brought to their attention. I had ordered the wings extra crispy and flats only(I’m weirdly picky). They had drumsticks and flats and wasn’t crispy but they were super hot and I think the final dash of lemon is what made them lose their crispness. They were very tasty and lemony and came with a couple of celery sticks and yummy blue cheese dressing. The pizza came out and was covered in sausage and peppers. The sausage wasn’t super flavorful but the pizza overall was great. Table herbs for the pizza would have been nice but overall we were pleased. Not gourmet, but good and reasonably priced. Two sodas, 8 wings and two topping xl pizza was about $ 33 including a tip.

A hideous Caesar salad that was poorly chopped up romaine with some canned cheese sprinkled on it. Not dressed. I got the ‘large’ portion which didn’t fill the tin. $ 8.00. With that I had shrimp added. $ 6.00. For $ 16 with tax I could have had an exquisite salad at Cheesecake Factory. This was a to-go item. And they have an area for a tip… For what… Paying my bill??? Romaine lettuce was wilted besides. THISPLACEIS A JOKE.

I walked in to tomato Jake’s after reading several reviews and was really skeptical due to the minority of people who disapproved of this establishment. The first thing I noticed was the calm, friendly, and inviting atmosphere delivered by the friendly staff. Not one, but two people talked to me, and while I understand that conversation with a customer is a vital part of any service industry, it seemed warm and genuine. I ordered a slice and a salad which they had a combo for and while the price was slightly higher than expected, so were the portions. The pizza slice was as big as my face and the salad was very fresh. Combined with the 1000 island dressing which Glen(not«Tomato Jake» as a previous poster mentioned) personally made, I had a very great meal. I would highly recommend this place if you just want to grab a bite to eat, or if you’re feeding a small army. The people there are friendly and I will definitely be back!

I came in here a couple months ago with my family. The food was outstanding but unfortunately the girls were wearing very short shorts. When I asked the young lady who was bussing the tables about her shorts she replied with, «My boss lets us.» I thought this was a family restaurant. If I wanted my children to see there bottoms I would go to hooters! Haven’t you heard of the finger tip rule! Where’s the dignity! Don’t bring your children here.

Love their Angry Italian calzone! The kids usually get Fredo’s Alfredo and eat it all up. Been here many times and always leave happy and full. Price is great for a family of four as well.

Worst service ever. My daughter and I came in for lunch and we were ignored twice after waiting in line to get a plate and then again when we needed a to go container. The lady at the register literally skipped me and asked the person behind me if they needed help. Wth Food was overpriced and nothing special.

If your thinking of going to ‘Tomato Jake’s’ … don’t. This place was the worst excuse for a pizzeria i have ever been to. My girlfriend and I just had a terrible meal there. First off we noticed that the place was filthy and that the booth seats were covered in food. I watched as an employee wiped down the table with a stank ass rag pushing the old dried up food onto the seats without a care. Next, some guy who I believe to be Tomato Jake decided it would be appropriate to ask us questions about our personal life while we were waiting for our food. Keep to yourself guy, please n thanks. Lets get on to the food portion of our experience at Tomato Jake’s. We ordered a house salad and a meatball sub. After we ordered we took a seat on our food covered booth seats, and noticed a sign on the wall stating«we only use fresh vegetables from local vendors.» so we thought, Hey this may actually be pretty good! NOT. Their local vendors must be the dumpsters from behind Target, because the house salad we got looked like it had been scooped up from the floor, topped with some nasty tomatoes and cucumbers, oh and lets not forget the poorest excuse for garlic bread«croutons» that I have ever seen. I cant remember the last time I was disgusted from eating vegetables. The meatball sub was decent, but was ruined by the biggest glob of cheese that smothered the whole fucking sandwich. Personally i think Tomato Jake should get a clue about the shit he calls food. Coming from a background of working in good restaurants and coming from New England where family restaurants actually take pride in what they make and don’t just throw some garbage on a plate and call it «homemade» food. I am disgusted by you Tomato Jake. This review does not give justice to how horrible it actually is. I hope that whoever reads this review never goes to this establishment. one last time. worst food ever.

The pizza is good, but I’ve never had an overwhelmingly great experience here. I also think it’s a little over priced.

We ordered for delivery via their website. We had ordered a lasagna and a salad, both items from their menu. Approximately 10 minutes after we ordered, we received a phone call from the restaurant. After the initial salutations, the conversation went south. The lady began with ¨For starters, we don´t carry those items anymore¨ as if it was our fault we ordered these items from THEIR menu. We were then asked to order something else, which we were given about 1 minute to revisit their menu to order before we were placed on hold. After holding, a man answered who told us our order is cancelled and hung up before we could speak. No mention of how we would be refunded for our order. We can´t judge the food since we did not receive any, but if the service is any indication of their food, we should be happy we were not served.

This tends to be a regular spot for me to grab a slice of pizza while on my break as I rush from job 1 to job 2. I had a slice of pepperoni and I would have to say that it was pretty average. The customer service today was ok-overall today’s experience was pretty average, and I maybe even underwhelming. I do love their calzones tho and if I planned better, I would have preordered one of those today.

This place truly has unique pizza. Their«Bruno’s Burger Pizza» is ridiculously awesome. There’s a sauce they put on this thing that makes it – I’m not sure what it is made from. One thing to know is their large pizzas — are very, very big. A hearty eating guy can get by with their single serving called a «ONE-Z.» There is also a beer they carry sometimes called«Bad Penny» and I really enjoy it. During football season, they have every game on with TVs everywhere. The place is kid friendly too — I have toddler that I sometimes bring. She likes the pizza too. The one drawback — they close pretty early on Sunday nights — so even when the Patriots are playing on 8:30 on Sunday night, they are closing by 10:00 p.m. Supposedly the owner is a big Pats fan.

Handmade pizza with gravy style sauce and family recipe balls. Delicious! The crust is a little crispy for me, but my wife loved it. Go for mafia meat or the roasted veggie both are well made. Draft wise: pabst, fat tire and bud light. To top it off, they donate any leftover pizzas to the Durham rescue shelter at the end of every night.

What was initially a decent visit with friends for Wednesday night trivia turned sour when the team rankings were announced. One group had an immature, homophobic team name that was repeated over the PA and followed up by the emcee with an equally immature, homophobic joke about fruit. Why this happens in 2014 in a town as progressive as Durham escapes me, so I will award Tomato Jake’s my very first 1-star review. As far as the food goes, our purchase was«limited» to a poor selection of alcoholic beverages and appetizers. The bland garlic knots were served in a pool of oil alongside bland garlic bread with equally bland marinara sauce. Neither appetizers had even a hint of garlic. So if you’re in the mood for bland food, you can get it elsewhere in Durham sans 1980’s-style homophobic standup routine, I assure you.

I bought a Groupon and decided to try out Tomato Jake’s. After I checked their website I knew I wanted to try the Green Monstah pizza with pesto, feta, and spinach. I also ordered a side of fries. I was a bit surprised that you order at the counter and later pick up your food once they call your card(they use playing cards instead of names or numbers). No big deal. I really liked our pizza, I’ll definitely order it again. I’ll also have to try their margarita pizza. The fries were better than I expected too. I’ll have to keep Tomato Jake’s in mind for when I’m at Southpoint but I don’t want to experiment with food court food– they have pizza by the slice.
