Triangle Cycles

I’ve not bought a cycle from them, so my experience is relative to parts and service.
I bought a used Vespa GT 200. It wouldn’t start at the purchase time. Had no way to get it to the shop. The Asst. Manager of the shop picked it up for me. They replaced the battery and changed the fluids. I have driven the bike for 2+ years, and I used TC regularly for service. They have a computer history of service on the bike, so they know what I have had done, what is warrantied, and what needs to be done to keep the bike in tip-​top working condition. They have always come thru for me.
Often their gear is priced as well as the national vendors, and you get to try it on to see if it fits rather than ordering online and then sending something back for sizing problems. They also have good periodic sales.
I would give 5 stars, except that they are no longer going to be selling/​servicing Vespas. They have been open about difficulties in dealing with Vespa, and they are dropping this line as they have difficulty getting parts. That is sad, since I have and love my Vespa. I was right at the point of being ready to purchase a new one. It is clear that they have made the decision to separate from Vespa so that they can maintain the quality of their customer care wit the brands they offer.
My grandfather ran one of the first Indian shops in San Francisco. The owner of the shop is in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. My grandpa saw the change from motorized bikes to real motorcycles. The shop was one of the first to sell different brands of bikes, and later expanded to BMW, Honda, and Vespa. Being in Triangle Cycles brings back the great memories of my grandpa’s shop and the nice folks who worked there who took care of customers like they were family.

Out of the three dealerships I visited to purchase my bike, this was by far the worst. Not only did it take some real pestering to even get to talk to a sales person, but they wanted to charge $ 1k above MSRP for various fees and wouldn’t negotiate. I was shocked, it was almost like I was invisible when I talked in there. Well, they lost that sale. I ended up driving to Rocky Mount to buy the bike for nearly $ 2k less than Triangle Cycles wanted for it. They get two stars for having a (limited) selection of gear in stock. Their prices were out of whack, so I tried on some gear to find my size and ordered it online.
I don’t see any reason to return. They obviously didn’t value my business all that much.

I tried to buy stick-​on wheel weights. They have a metric ton in the service department, but they refused to sell me any. EVERY other motorcycle shop I have been to has a package of them behind the parts counter, but not Triangle Cycles. «i can order you a box» Well I can order me a box too, and have it shipped to my door in less time and for less cost than you can. I don’t go to a dealership to order something, I go to get it right now, that day. If you don’t carry something as basic and simple as a stick-​on wheel weight, that does not bode well for the rest of my parts needs.

Hands down, worst customer service I have ever received in Durham. I was flat out ignored.

It had been almost seven years since last I went to Triangle Cycles — for although I’d purchased my bike there in 1997, they’d always made me feel like they were the only game in town when it came to service. Eventually I had gotten fed up with their high prices, the interminable wait to get someone on the phone, and the need to special order anything more esoteric than spark plugs. I’d felt downright victorious when I’d finally found a local mechanic that could take care of all of my motorcycle service needs…
…and so I felt justifiably alarmed to learn that my replacement mechanic had now entered semi-​retirement, spending his winters drowning worms in the Gulf rather than being on call for my motorcycle needs!
What to do? There are woefully few motorcycle repair shops within 40 miles of home, and so I found myself looking at Triangle Cycles once again. My hope resided in the memory that they had been undergoing a fair number of staffing changes way back when — perhaps they’d gone through a few more, and improved?
I took my bike in on Wednesday afternoon — an unexpected respite from the daily grind as I had jury duty, and was dismissed before noon. :) I handed it over to a young man behind the service counter, by the name of Tristan. He listened attentively to what I needed, made a few suggestions and even told me about what it would cost. I’d asked if I could have it by the weekend, and he’d told me ‘no problem.‘
Imagine my pleasant surprise to get a call from Tristan on Thursday afternoon, telling me my bike was good to go!
I wasn’t able to pick it up until today (Saturday). Imagine how pleasant to find that there were no «surprises» in the bill — no mechanical or imaginary problems discovered by their staff — and a bill that was within $ 5 of what Tristan had quoted. It had been properly serviced, test-​ridden and even cleaned up a bit. I must say, I was VERY pleasantly surprised!
Triangle Cycles still has issues with Service picking up the phone (I was on hold for more than 5 minutes on Thursday, and finally hung up without Service ever picking up), and other than this experience, I have no idea how else that dealership may have changed. But as far as the Service Department, I felt well treated, well heard, and even respected as a customer.
I’ll be happy to give them a call the next time I need service.

Try calling their # and see how many times you get through to who you want, it’s kind of like a lottery.
This is a small dealership with a few bikes and not a lot of parts/​accessories. I’ve come here for various things for my bike, a honda rebel: a helmet, goggles, saddlesbags, and have been dissapointed with either the selection or the service everytime.
So why are they still in business? When you are the only game in town for Yamaha and Honda motorcycles, it doesn’t matter if you’re good or not.
Honestly though, unless you need something in a hurry, and the fact that they don’t pick up their phone 80% of the time, goto another dealer. If you can make the trip to Sanford, the honda dealer there has good selection and service
Combustion cycles is also in the area if you need motorcycle repair.
UPDATE: The people in their repair dept have generally been alright. One mechanic went out of his way to take care of me and my bike, so i guess there are diamonds in the rough that is Triangle Cycles.
