History
Established in 2007.
Built in 1863 as Kline’s Hotel, then Diamond Hotel after discovery of a 16 carat glacial diamond. Hit by prohibition, it closed in 1926. After repeal of beer and liquor in 1933, Sasso bought it for $ 900.
The hotel’s ground floor was excavated another two feet to form the present rathskeller bar. The Eagle Hotel and a dance hall between them were razed. There also was a livery stable under the Eagle Hotel. At one time-18 passenger trains a day. Stories include Abe Lincoln sitting on the fireplace mantel back in 1863 and frequent stops for many of the Milwaukee Braves.
In June 2007, the Suhm family purchased the combination business changing the name to «Suhmer’s Saloon», a play on their last name, still boasting it as a historical saloon, restaurant and four motel rooms. Paranormal research was conducted and proved active in 2012 – 13. With access to 3,0000 acres of the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest Trails, customers are offered 24 horse stalls in the Southwest parking lot.
