Protectors of Animals

What more can you say about a place that takes in homeless animals and treats them with love and respect. They seek out perfect homes with individuals or families that are a perfect fit. They nurse the sick back to health, socialize the unsociable until they are suitable for a forever home, and provide the loving environment our fine cohabitants of this world deserve. Love this place.

POA is a wonderful place to find a cat or kitten. It is run by volunteers (one paid staff member). Please consider adopting from or supporting POA. Adoption hours are on Saturdays and their team will try and match you up with a feline that matches you. Be prepared to fill out some paperwork.
They also have dogs but I am not familiar with that side of their operation.

I grew up with dogs, and my family adopted each one from POA. Six years ago I became a volunteer for one of their dog shelters. I’ve also adopted my own best friend, Archie, from POA. I chose to adopt and volunteer as an adult due to the love, passion, dedication, and compassion that is abundant at Protectors of Animals. Assistance does not end after adoption. Adoption counselors are more than happy to make themselves available at any time. The volunteers contribute so much time, care, and heart. I’m proud to be a part of that. Needless to say, I highly recommend that POA be considered if you’re opting to adopt a cat or dog.

This is a top notch all volunteer run no kill shelter doing miraculous work in the world! Soooo proud to be a foster family for them. Poa shows how it can and should be done!

After bringing Patch home in April, I decided he needed a friend because he might be lonely. Enter Buster! Boyfriend and I went to POA on a Saturday and checked out the kittens. I figured a kitten would be more open to sharing its home that an older one who was already territorial, and Patch was already used to having lots of other cats around. The POA staff was once again welcoming and handed us kitten after kitten to hold. I wanted to take them all home. Buster started purring as soon as BF picked him up, and BF pointed our that black cats don’t get adopted as much. How he knew that, I’ll never know. Buster quickly bonded with his big brother, and they’ve become the best of friends!

I can’t say enough positive words about the volunteers at the Protectors of Animals in east Hartford. They truly truly love and care for animals like no other. We adopted a kitten in July and soon after the little guy got a cold. When I emailed Martha she had me come down immediately and have Sam checked out. She had a vet there waiting and provided Sam with all if the medication needed to get him well again. Martha has a heart of gold and I am so happy our paths have crossed. Please stop down and adopt your new pal today, there are many many cats and dogs that always need a home. Thanks POA!

We adopted a kitten from an event POA was having at Petsmart. The volunteers were very nice and wanted to be sure that we picked the right animal. But when we finally found one we liked and had to complete the paperwork with the actual POA «Team Leader», everything changed. They were so hasty in terms of getting us to sign on the dotted line that they didn’t even bring up the kitten’s medical history. When I asked, they skimmed through the medical paperwork quickly with me, failing to mention the parasite that the animal had in the past and the worms that they currently had. I found this out at the vet a couple days later. Don’t get me wrong; I love the animal and I did sign on the dotted line. But it would have been nice to know what I was getting into beforehand since I was paying a $ 150 fee. Not a good experience.

Protectors of Animals is a non-​profit company run solely by volunteers and kept afloat by generous donations. This is a great place to adopt a pet. The East Hartford location is where the cats are kept, while the dogs live at a seperate location. If you are looking for a feline friend to care for, please consider adopting one from POA.
