MSU Federal Credit Union

This bank has turned into… worse than a bank.
They are sure pretty good at putting up branches everywhere (but why? how many stores do you need for customers to bank? don’t we use computers most of the time?) but TERRIBLE at banking.
Their «computerline» bill payment is like a dinosaur when it comes to adequacy. Screw-​ups happen all the time. Perhaps if you pay 3 or 4 bills a month you will get buy with few mistakes.
They have CONSTANTLY been changing the way your computer accounts work. Who does their IT? Gosh, they must be idiots.

So, I’ve been a member of MSU Federal Credit Union since I started college at Michigan State in 2003. Since then, I’ve moved all across Michigan, to Chicago, and now to Washington DC. MSUFCU has met my needs every step of the way. They are still my only bank.
This place strives to be your bank for life, and they do a damn good job at it. I’ve honestly never had a single reason to leave. Low interest rates, incredibly easy online banking (they even have an app), super responsive email and chat services. seriously, what more could you ask for?
Overdraft. That’s what you could ask for. Let’s talk about the number of times I overdraft my checking. Actually, let’s not. But MSUFCU doesn’t care. They never charge me for overdraft. They just take it from another fund and send me an email letting me know. No judgement. Thank you, MSUFCU.
ATMs! That’s what they could have. Well guess what, they do. They partner with a bunch of banks and ATMs all over the country and have them conveniently listed on their website under «Sister branches.» You know what one of the sister branches is? 7 – 11. Yes, they are literally everywhere and using their ATM is free. Or I can debit at the grocery store and get cash for free. Getting cash from this credit union is not a problem, no matter where you are.
Want to have a savings account with them? Sure! You can even break it up into 10 different accounts. I know the Type A people out there are appreciating that feature.
The one hang up I’ll mention is the e-​deposit. It’s entirely possible it’s just me, but my photos of my checks never seem to have the right resolution for MSUFCU to deposit them online. Usually I just mail them in. Nbd.
Finally, the folks here are super friendly. It’s fantastic. Honestly, this is one business I would recommend to anyone.

Moved out to Cali 5 yrs ago and this is still the only bank I will do business with. The best rates, great customer service, gives me big loans whenever I need it and always finds a way to help me. They don’t see me as someone to profit from but someone to help meet my financial goals. They have bent over backwards to help me any way legally possible in the 10+ yrs that I’ve been with them. Absolutely phenomenal people.

I have two car loans with this credit Union. The interest rates I got were very low which is a good thing. Their customer service is very professional and very nice people as well.

I have been with these guys since college and will never leave them. I’m in CA now so I have to use shared banking branches… kind of a pain but still worth it. over the years I’ve only had one issue. i ended up getting my car loan from a different credit union because they were being so difficult about it. I’m self employed but with excellent credit. They didn’t seem to like the self-​employed part.

I’ve banked with MSUFCU since I was a freshman at MSU 10 years ago. I now live in Los Angeles and still use the credit union for the majority of my banking. I can deposit checks online and there are network ATMs throughout the country that do not charge fees. I just got an auto loan to buyout my wife’s lease and it couldn’t have been easier. MSUFCU was the lowest rate when we compared to Chase, Honda Financial, and another credit union. MSUFCU’s customer service is unmatched in the banking industry. Also, the MSUFCU Platinum Visa card with the statue of Sparty on the front always makes people jealous when splitting a bar tab :)

I actually came here to write a five-​star review, having totally forgotten my old review. MSUFCU has fixed the problems with
and come a long way in making its site more usable as a whole, even surprising me just now by offering a way to notify the bank of travel plans online (something my new local bank doesn’t offer). I’ve moved away from Michigan, but I owe MSUFCU for giving me my first credit card, helping me establish a solid credit rating that got me an auto loan with rates most people are jealous of. I’m happy to continue supporting them and watching them grow, even from afar.
The only thing they might be missing out on is an app that has mobile deposit, but to be honest, if this is your main bank, you’re probably in the East Lansing area where there is a branch or ATM everywhere you turn anyway. It’d be nice to have, but it’s not necessarily something I miss right now, since my main bank has that and if I need to put cash here, a transfer is easy enough to do. Definitely get your financial start here if you’re going to MSU — it’ll pay off.

this is a good business

I got tired of my old bank constantly being gobbled up big bigger and bigger banks… Six years ago I switched to MSU FCU and I’ve been very happy with them ever since! Always friendly service, and truly great customer service.
Any time I have a question, I can either call and get helped immediately or submit it through their website for a reply within 24 hours. With free [for everyone including non-​members] ATMs spread around town, in addition to the many branches throughout the Capital Area, I don’t see much reason to live around here and NOT use this bank. You won’t look back!

Great people, great locations! They are always ready to serve you and there are rarely long lines, I come from NU Union (The old State Employees) and will never look back. NU Union’s service was getting to be quite terrible and there were always long lines, their fees were getting high too. Not at MSUFCU!
They take very good care of their customers and I’m very happy with them!

I’ve had accounts at 2 credit unions, and 2 national banks (in addition to my online brokerage account through e-​trade).
They’re an awesome bank. Free ATMs at every QD throughout the Lansing area, and most credit unions are in some way partnered with MSUFCU throughout Michigan. You can always find a free ATM.
MSUFCU is exceedingly friendly, it really makes me wonder why anyone would want to bank with Fifth Third/​Bank of America/​etc. They don’t bury you in fees. As long as I am in Michigan, I plan to remain with them.
Also, for Mint users out there — MSUFCU syncs with Mint. My only gripe with MSUFCU is that their online banking system really needs an update. You can do everything you need to (scheduled transfers, bill pay, etc), but it’s not very graceful.

I love MSUFCU. I never thought I’d care either way about a financial institution, but the credit union has treated me well over the years. I opened my account when I lived in East Lansing and still used it as my primary banking account after I moved to Chicago as no other financial institution came close to MSUFCU’s service.
I have my mortgage, credit card, auto loan, checking account, IRA, etc., etc. with MSUFCU. They have a great website (I do 99% of my banking via ComputerLine), really good service and competitive rates.
