Hardy landscape plants, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, Japanese maples, hollies, & more can be found in our nursery. Roses, peonies, daylilies, hostas, grasses & more, make our perennial yard a popular destination. There’s always something in bloom & beautiful at Martin Viette.

Enjoy a huge selection of veggies & herbs, including those certified organic. Did you know? Most of our plants are grown on Long Island.

Annuals add color to patios, planters & baskets. Whether sun or shade, let our staff assist you with selecting plants that bring your garden to life.

Gifts & home décor are our specialty. Silk arrangements, accent tables, serving pieces & more can be found in our garden room.

History

Established in 1929.

Our history begins with a young nurseryman named Martin Viette who started a nursery on 42-​acres in East Norwich, NY, our present location. In 1962, Martin’s son, André, took over the family business and continued his father’s tradition of plant hybridization. In 1976 André sold Martin Viette Nurseries to Emily and Russell Ireland, Jr. Today, their sons, Russell, III, and Michael, continue to do business under the Martin Viette name. The family’s commitment to providing Long Island communities with the highest quality plant material, the friendliest and most knowledgeable service, and an enjoyable shopping experience in a serene park-​like setting, is deeply rooted and stronger than ever. Martin Viette continues to grow, providing a garden club program with magazines, lectures, events, and a beautiful horticultural center where customers can share the joys and passion of gardening.

Business Owner

Michael & Russ Ireland, third generation independent garden center & landscape design/​build owners, are co-​presidents of Martin Viette Nurseries & Ireland Gannon Associates. At an early age they learned the many aspects of the business from their father & grandfather. Watering plants, pulling weeds, unloading trucks & helping customers were part of their everyday routine. Today, they rely on these past experiences to continue to provide customers with exceptional plant selection & quality, outstanding customer service, & an enjoyable shopping experience.
