Our Maytag Neptune washer developed a problem two or three weeks ago. It would no longer go into the spin cycle, giving us a «locked rotor» error code on the front panel. We called another local appliance repair company, and they came out to check the machine. We paid a $ 100.00 service charge, PLUS another $ 24.00 for tinkering with the machine, only to be told that the repair would be in the order of $ 800.00 and that we should junk the machine. It sounded like time for a second opinion. I went online and found a repair expert 3,000 miles away who said that our machine could definitely be repaired and for far less money. I exchanged a few e-mails with him, but I ultimately felt that the removal of the motor and control board were just a little more than I wanted to do on my own. I then called an acquaintance who runs a local handyman service, and he referred me to Art Cooper. From our first conversation, I knew that Art Cooper was the right person for major appliance repairs. He took a lengthy amount of time to speak with me on the phone, at the end of his work day, when most people would not even take the time to return a call. He also took the time to look into the situation, taking down our model and serial number, and contacting Whirlpool(the current owners of Maytag, which went bankrupt a few years ago because of, you guessed it, Neptune washers). Art Cooper spent more time on the phone with me diagnosing the problem than the first repair man spent on the service call where he told us to junk the machine. Anyway, Art came out today with a new motor and control board(which must be replaced in tandem). Our total cost for service, parts, and labor was under $ 300.00 … not the $ 800.00 that the other company quoted. The machine is working like new, and we are very, very pleased. I recommend Cooper Appliance Services without reservation. If you live in the greater Easthampton — Northampton area and are in need of appliance repair, you cannot go wrong.
