Edgartown Meat & Fish

Truly the best of the best! I live in Boston and vacation on Martha’s Vineyard each summer and this is a store I always look forward to. Great café (Starbucks?!) with fresh baked bagels (only ones on the island?) excellent meat and fish (try to house steak tips!) and great beer and wine selection.

If I were rating this on food and coffee alone it would be 5 star. But today I went in with my mother to order a sandwich on the café side and the service we received was absolutely despicable. A short girl with long blonde hair that was simply in a pony tail with a hat that continuously brushed against the espresso machine, coffee cups, bagel area, as she whipped frantically around, approached us with a flippant less then pleasant attitude. She rolled her eyes the entire time she took our simple sandwich order (a Black Forest ham sandwich on a wrap.) When we ordered two coffees from their «Starbucks» coffee menu because I didn’t say the coffee order perfectly right, because as everyone knows ordering Starbucks is like speaking a foreign language, she began to mutter under her breath how I was ordering incorrectly and that what I ordered was something different when trying to repeat it to ANOTHER girl who was ringing us up for everything. She had an awful attitude and was completely rude. I get it, after August on Martha’s Vineyard it can be exhausting dealing with customers I know because I work at a local restaurant as a server/​bartender year round. But as a frequent customer she frequently appears to have a nasty, rude attitude and today was the worst I’ve ever seen. Completely unnecessary and arrogant. I love the coffee there and sandwiches. But if she’s working there I won’t be returning. I’ll be getting my sandwiches at shire town meat from now on.

I love this place. The meats are amazing, the cheese selection is great, and for those of you that complain everything is more expensive on the Vineyard they sell Miraval rose wine for $ 2 cheaper a bottle than my local liquor store in Newton does. And I can grab a Starbucks on the way out. I will buy chips and salsa at the Stop and Shop, but my meats come from EM&F!

The perfect place for fresh seafood and premium steaks and some items for an amazing quick vacation dinner. Love the LOVE the bagels! And love that it’s family owned and operated.

Great shop. We wanted to grill bison for the fourth. They special ordered for us with next day service.

Love this place! The only spot on all of Martha’s Vineyard to get a Starbucks coffee. Steak tips are to die for, huge selection of premarinaded for grilling. Always go to lunch here, the folks are extremely friendly. Kudo’s to the management here, you’ve got a great thing going.

With many memories of this space’s former incarnation as a video store, I viewed its new identity as a fish and meat market, plus a café on the side, with some trepidation.
But after carefully going in to soak up the new environment and try a few items, I could see myself coming back here on a regular basis. Special kudos for it being MV’s only Starbucks outlet, a careful attention to a tasty and wide variety of craft beers, and what appears to be a healthily diverse range of meats, cheeses, and (yes) fish. Worth checking out!

I love this place, the staff is extremely friendly and always willing to help you find what you need. The selection is fresh, especially the varied cuts of fish. I’d much rather go here than stop and shop to purchase meat for a dish or fish for an entrée! Also, they can make you a starbucks!

On an island with a bunch of great seafood markets, Edgartown Meat & Fish recently became my go-​to for anything non-​seafood related. Yes, yes, yes. I get that they do have a great seafood selection, but the meat offerings were some of the best I’ve seen on the island. My group opted for the veggie kabobs, a few great cuts of steak and some sliced Italian cold cuts, all of which were out of this world. The prepared foods were equally on point; the sushi was perfect, the mushroom caps were top notch. I also just enjoyed wandering around the store and checking out the different products they had on the shelf. Above average beer selection, a bakery and a friendly staff only lend more to the fact that this place is a must stop whether you’re preparing a huge meal or just trying to get some munchies before heading to the beach.

It was our first stop as soon as we got off the boat. Something for everyone and family friendly. Lots of places to sit inside and out. Impressive and reasonable wine selection; delicious looking meat and fish. Get everything you need at this upscale but casual little place.

A one stop shop for many things like sushi, Starbucks — yes Starbucks — meats and wines. I tried what looked to be Starbucks and guess what it has the same taste as on he mainland. The sushi is made in house and is really good (there is a guy with a sushi counter making more as things sell) I sat on one of he sofas and watched as sushi and Starbucks were going one by one.
There was a large selection of wines and drinks. Also the meats that were out looked very fresh and had a range in price.
I have never seen a more shiny hardwood floor! This place is in a good location and so many things to choose from!

Their house steak tips are out of this world! That is our go-​to «we have guests visiting»
or «special occasion» purchase. We will choose to go get the steak tips and grill them up rather than go out to a restaurant, they’re THAT GOOD.
Great beer selection, lots of micro brews and local New England stuff. They have a lot of wine but I don’t feel confidant enough in my wine skills to comment on their selection.
The grocery side is a little on the pricey side but you are getting really nice, tasty stuff for your $, lots of nice meats, cheeses, breads and crackers and such.
They’ve got great soups (try the broccoli & cheddar!) and for those of you who can’t bear being on the island without your Starbucks, they serve Starbucks here.
The staff is super friendly and helpful and they have stood by their word to stay open year round, which is great for us island folk but probably not great for their bottom line, it’s much appreciated by those of us here in the winter. They have really worked to become a part of the community and have supported several local non-​profits in the short time they’ve been here.

I help run a writers workshop on Martha’s Vineyard every fall, and was delighted to find Edgartown Meat & Fish. We feed 40 people a day for more than a week, and serving fresh, local food is one of our priorities.
They’ve been terrific to us since we discovered them. I simply call in the meat order, and send someone to pick it up. They’ve always had our order ready to go, carefully wrapped, and quite reasonably priced. The meat and chicken we’ve used has always been fresh, flavorful, and selected with obvious care. The Italian sausages are amazing (both the sweet and the hot varieties) and the burger is fresh and ground to order.
We’ll be back every year. I just wish I had an Edgartown Meat & Fish in my own hometown.

We had a family reunion this Summer at our Edgartown home… The house was filled with our four grown children and their friends… Between family and friends 32 total… We went to the market and the owner was amazing… Sean helped us so much with «how much» swordfish and «how much» steak… The event was wonderful because of the food !! The swordfish and steaks simply the best… Everyone left the Island with a smile …

I think the excitement surrounding Edgartown meat and fish needs to be tamped down a bit. Their meat and fish are very good, but are by no means exceptional for the island, especially on the fish side. Plus, they are very expensive.
What are most disappointing however are the prepared foods and fresh sandwiches. The sandwiches contain very, very little actual meat. I felt as though I might as well have eaten a baguette. Also, we had some pasta that was pretty awful. On top of that, the sandwich service was slow, the people making the sandwiches were rude, and all of this was relatively expensive.

You know that saying, ‘like a kid in a candy store’? Well for me, henceforth, it will be ‘like Hilary in Edgartown Meat & Fish’, because I went completely and totally bonkers with glee upon entering this shop. Totally. Completely. 100% Bonkers.
My sister, resident of Edgartown, MA very casually and breezily said, «Oh, we should go to the new fish market…» when I asked what we were doing for din-​dins that evening. I had no frigging clue what the new fish market meant and what joy was in my future. See, being from New England, I am used to the cement-​floor, stanky-​air, humid, sweaty, gritty markets that sell the good stuff right off the boats and out of the fishermens’ hands. ‘It ain’t pretty, but it sure is good’ kind of stuff. Not that I mind that — not at all…
… But I digress. This market is beautiful. Pristine, even. The wood floors glisten with fresh polish, the counters sparkle with cleanliness, and the fish… the FISH!!! It was a thing to behold, that fish. Slabs of tuna, perfectly pink and slightly translucent. The striper, the bluefish, the oysters… I could go on forever, but I will just tell you this: it was all gorgeous.
The meat counter was equally as impressive. I wanted flank steak, and boy did I ever get it: almost 5lbs of it for under $ 40. Where does that happen anywhere, let alone on Martha’s Vineyard? It was quality, too — grass fed right there on the island. Amazing. Delicious. Fresh. Go get some. Go get some right now.
They also have a fantastic selection of condiments and snacks here, too — everything from Cholula to Cape Cod ‘tater chips. You can pop in and get lunch on your way to the beach from the deli foods section — containers of salads, sushi, even sandwiches and drinks. They’ve got a liquor license, so there’s a substantial wine and beer selection, too. Oh — and cheeses!
Do you understand why this is now my favorite shop on the Vineyard? This shop is going places, kids…

Clean, fresh, inviting, whether it’s for breakfast, an early morning cup of coffee, or getting something from their amazing selection for dinner — this place puts a smile on my face without putting a dent in my wallet. Cheer up — go here!

I went to the market for the early morning usual: coffee, orange juice, and bagels. I’ve been wanting to try this place out since they opened about two weeks ago. This seemed like the perfect opportunity for a trial run, and it was.
The bagels were still warm and everything was great and service at that time of day still with a smile!
Ok, I thought it might have been a fluke, and I just caught them at a good time. So, I decided to go back for lunch and try out their lobster rolls. I am addicted to lobster rolls and I have tried them everywhere and these were excellent and priced well too.
To get five stars, I think the service has to be even better than the food, and they hit the mark. The owner came out from behind the butcher counter to say hello and greet my wife, son and I. They made us feel like we were part of their family.
The reason for my initial skepticism was the existing grocery store choices. There’s only the Stop and Rob, and that place is really disgusting. Edgartown needed a place like the Meat and Fish Market, and finally got it! We will definitely be here often.
